Cette recherche propose de dresser le portrait de la production et de la diffusion des céramiques de style à bandes (waveline) produites en Égée du Nord aux périodes archaïque et classique par le biais de l'étude de matériel inédit recueilli sur sept sites de colonies grecques établies entre le Strymon et le golfe de Maronée et six sites de l'arrière-pays thrace. Elle vise à rassembler, au moyen de données archéologiques et archéornétriques, des informations sur les milieux de production, les réseaux d'échanges et les habitudes de consommation de la clientèle à l'égard de ces céramiques. Le volet archéologique vise d'abord à définir le répertoire des formes, des décors et des pâtes, puis à déterminer l'étendue et le cadre chronologique de la production. Le volet archéométrique porte sur des analyses physico-chimiques en laboratoire (spectrométrie de fluorescence par rayons X) visant à caractériser et à déterminer l'origine de 200 des 540 céramiques recensées. Le corpus est constitué d'échantillons mis au jour sur les sites d’Argilos, de Thasos, de Bergè et de Phagrès, quatre sites de Macédoine orientale. L'inédit de la recherche réside dans l'opportunité qu'elle offre aux archéologues de dater et d'identifier l'origine des céramiques à bandes nord-égéennes, entraînant du coup des répercussions directes sur les discussions portant sur les milieux de production, les réseaux de circulation et les relations interrégionales entre les différents sites étudiés. Considérée dans une perspective de circulation et d'échanges, l'étude des céramiques à bandes contribue à faire progresser l'état des connaissances sur l'histoire économique, culturelle et artisanale du nord de l'Égée entre les VIIe et IVe siècles av. J. -C. / This research aims to shed light on the production and diffusion of the Waveline style pottery made in the Northern Aegean during the Archaic and Classical periods based on the study of unpublished material recovered from seven Greek colonies established between the Strymon River and Maronea, and six sites of the Thracian hinterland. More specifically it seeks to gather information regarding workshops, trading networks, and consumption habits through typo-stylistical, distribution, and archaeometric analyses. The primary goal of this study is the detailed analysis of the finds according to their stratigraphic context in order to define the range of shapes, stylistic patterns, and clay fabrics of the ceramic series, and to establish diffusion patterns and chronology. A second objective, based on laboratory analysis. is to characterize the geochemical composition of 200 of the 540 identified vessels in order to determine their provenance (using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry). The corpus contains samples from Argilos, Thasos, Berge, and Phagres, four of the main site covered by this study. The novelty of this research lies in the opportunity it provides for archaeologists to date and identify more precisely the origin of the North-Aegean waveline pottery, leading to direct impact on discussions related to workshops, trading networks, and inter-relationships between the studied sites. Considered from the perspective of circulation and ex change, the study of the waveline pottery contributes to advancing knowledge on the economic, cultural, and social history of the Northern Aegean between the 7th and 4th centuries B.C.

Thermal mismatch between different components of a system could cause of problems like residual stress induced cracking, thermal fatigue or even optical misalignment in certain high technology applications. Use of materials with customized thermal expansion coefficient is a counter-measure to resolve such problems. Zirconium tungstate (ZrW2O8) with negative thermal expansion coefficient is capable of being used in synthesis of composites with tailored coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). In this work, the sol-gel method which had been already set up in our group was characterized and the sources of the factors imposing impurities in the product were distinguished in all the steps of precursor preparation and heat treatment. In the second part of study, zirconium tungstate particles synthesized by the sol-gel method were utilized as core in synthesis of ZrW2O8&ndash / ZrO2 core&ndash / shell composite particles. Shell layer was composed of ZrO2 nanocrystallites and precipitated from an aqueous solution by urea hydrolysis. Volume of the shell was effectively controlled by concentration of the initial zirconium ion in the solutions. The rate of precipitation was a function of the ratio of initial urea concentration to zirconium ion. It is hypothesized that isolation of the ZrW2O8 within a layer of ZrO2, will be a key element in solving problems associated with reactivity of ZrW2O8 towards other components in sintering of ceramic&ndash / ceramic composites with tuned or zero thermal expansion coefficient.

Paralelamente, apresenta e detalha os materiais e as técnicas empregadas na produção dos objetos, contribuindo com informações importantes para o meio ceramista. Mostrado como o recorte de um conjunto que inclui o conhecimento de outros materiais e técnicas cerâmicas, a dissertação ressalta a importância da pesquisa técnica e do desenvolvimento prático como motores de um ciclo para o crescimento poético. / This dissertation consists of the paths chosen for the development of two ceramic objects. The features and possibilities of creation with the material - porcelain - are explored, having as motif fragments selected from Clarice Lispector\'s work. The dissertation contains descriptions and thoughts about the creative process of the two objects and porcelain, justifying the choices made. At the same time, it presents in details the materials and technical processes used for making the objects, contributing with important information for ceramists. Chosen as part of a whole wich includes knowledge about other ceramic materials and techniques, the dissertation emphasizes the importance of technical research and practice as engine of a circle for poetic development.

Dans les arts plastiques, le concept de la beauté doit être associé aux techniques sous-jacentes. L'artiste doit choisir et maîtriser ces techniques afin de les appliquer à l'art en vue d'atteindre les résultats esthétiques visés. Une approche scientifique de ces techniques a un rôle important dans l'amélioration de leur application dans les arts plastiques. Les céramiques et poteries sont un domaine complexe où les réactions chimiques et les propriétés physiques des argiles et des glaçures doivent être prises en compte. Dans ce domaine l'histoire de la science était un guide utile dans une telle recherche. Pour les céramiques, les réactions chimiques se produisant à la phase haute température du processus de cuisson déterminent essentiellement l'aspect final de la surface du produit. En conséquence, changer les conditions de ces réactions (profils de température, la nature de l'atmosphère du four) était une bonne méthode pour obtenir de nouveaux aspects de surface. L'atmosphère du four pendant et après la cuisson permettait de contrôler, dans une large mesure, l'aspect final des produits céramiques, et cela dépend à la fois de la conception et de la mise en place du four. L'étude de l'histoire des techniques céramiques, dans différentes civilisations, a conduis à un aperçu des techniques de cuisson. La compréhension scientifique de ces techniques a mené à des stratégies en vue de modifier la conception du four et la pratique de la cuisson. / In Plastic arts; with the concept of beauty there are also techniques, artists choose between these techniques for apply art works matching with aesthetic viewpoint. In ceramics and pottery we are confronted with the chemicals reactions and physical properties of clay and glaze which have deep roots in human history, so history techniques will guide us in this research. In ceramic, chemical reactions need high temperature as condition to exist (Firingprocess), and that have main role in determined final appearance of surface treatments for ceramics forms. When the chemical reactions and physical properties which happen in firing process are responsible of final appearance and aesthetics treatments of ceramics forms, the changing of reactions conditions was used for achieving new treatments for ceramic surface beauty. L’objectif de cette thèse est de réaliser des revêtements de nitrure de bore sur différents types de substrats comme le graphite, le quartz, le pyrex, en allant jusqu’aux métaux et en particulier le titane. Le choix de la voie PDCs s’avère intéressant grâce à la maîtrise du précurseur de départ au niveau atomique d’une part et à la facilité du procédé de dépôt, d’autre part. Nos objectifs étaient d’étudier la faisabilité de réaliser des revêtements BN sur différents types de substrat en utilisant un traitement thermique résistif et de mettre en place un dispositif qui nous permette de pyrolyser les films polymériques sur métaux sans dommage pour le substrat, en vue de leur protection contre l’oxydation ou d’autres applications mécaniques. Dans ce sens, nous avons démontré la possibilité d’utiliser un traitement thermique alternatif par lampe halogène émettant dans l’infra-rouge pour densifier les revêtement BN déposer sur substrats métalliques. / The aim of this work was to prepare boron nitride coatings onto different substrates using the Polymers Derived Ceramics (PDCs) approach. In that way, BN coatings were obtained onto graphite, pure silica and metal especially titanium. The first part of this thesis was to study parameters (of the solution used and of the dip-coating process), to obtain the best coatings in terms of morphology, cristallinity and chemical composition. The second part was dedicated to BN coatings obtained onto metal substrates using an alternative thermal treatment allowing the polymer-to-ceramic conversion without any damage for the metal. Actually, annealing by infrared irradiation allows heating only the coating, energy being reflected by the metal.

Non-Oxide Porous Ceramics from Polymer PrecursorYang, Xueping 01 January 2014 (has links)
Non-oxide porous ceramics exhibit many unique and superior properties, such as better high-temperature stability, improved chemical inertness/corrosive resistance, as well as wide band-gap semiconducting behavior, which lead to numerous potential applications in catalysis, high temperature electronic and photonic devices, and micro-electromechanical systems. Currently, most mesoporous non-oxide ceramics (e.g. SiC) are formed by two-step templating methods, which are hard to adjust the pore sizes, and require a harmful etching step or a high temperature treatment to remove the templates. In this dissertation, we report a novel technique for synthesizing hierarchically mesoporous non-oxide SiC ceramic from a block copolymer precursor. The copolymer precursors with vairing block length were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The block copolymers self-assemble into nano-scaled micelles with a core-shell structure in toluene. With different operation processes, hollow SiC nanospheres and bulk mesoporous SiC ceramics were synthesized after the subsequent pyrolysis of precorsur micelles. The resultant SiC ceramics have potential applications in catalysis, solar cells, separation, and purification processes.The polymer synthesis and pyrolysis process will investigated by NMR, FTIR, GPC, TEM, and TGA/DSC. The morphology and structure of synthesised SiC hollow spheres and mesoporous ceramics were analyzed by SEM, TGA/DSC and BET/BJH analysis. Besides forming core shell micelles in selective solvent Toluene, we found that PVSZ-b-PS could also exhibit this property in the air water interface. By inducing the Langmuir-Blodgett deposition, a precursor monolayer with homogeously distributed povinylsilazane particles deposited on silicon wafer synthesized by spreading the diblock copolymer PVSZ-b-PS in the air water interface. After the pyrolysis process, orderly arranging SiC nano particles formed from the polymer precursor monolayer doped on the surface of silicon wafer, which shows great potential as an optoelectronic material. The deposition process and the relationship between compress pressure and monolayer morphology were studies, and the structure of monolayer and SiC dots were investigated by AFM, SEM.

Structure And Properties Of Polymer-derived Sibcn CeramicsChen, Yaohan 01 January 2012 (has links)
Polymer-derived ceramics (PDCs) are a unique class of multifunctional materials synthesized by thermal decomposition of polymeric precursors. Due to their unique and excellent properties and flexible manufacturing capability, PDC is a promising technology to prepare ceramic fibers, coatings, composites and micro-sensors for high-temperature applications. However, the structure-property relationships of PDCs have not been well understood. The lack of such understandings drastically limited the further developments and applications of the materials. In this dissertation, the structure and properties of amorphous polymer-derived silicon carbonitride (SiCN) and silicoboron carbonitride (SiBCN) have been studied. The SiCN was obtained using commercially available polysilazane as pre-ceramic precursor, and the SiBCN ceramics with varied Si-to-B ratio were obtained from polyborosilazanes, which were synthesized by the hydroboration and dehydrocoupling reaction of borane and polysilazane. The structural evolution of polymer-derived SiCN and SiBCN ceramics from polymer to ceramics was investigated by NMR, FTIR, Raman, EPR, TG/DTA, and XRD. The results show a phaseseparation of amorphous matrix and a graphitization of “free” carbon phase, and suggest that the boron doping has a great influence on the structural evolution. The electric and dielectric properties of the SiCN and SiBCNs were studied by I-V curves, LCR Meter, and network analyzer. A new electronic conduction mechanism and structure model has been proposed to account for the relationships between the observed properties and microstructure of the materials. Furthermore, the SiBCN ceramics showed the improved dielectric properties at characterization iv temperature up to 1300 ºC, which allows the fabrication of ultrahigh-temperature wireless microsensors for extreme environments.
