[en] APPLICATION OF THE METHOD OF MOMENTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF MICROSTRIP ANTENNAS / [pt] APLICAÇÃO DO MÉTODO DOS MOMENTOS NA ANÁLISE DE ANTENAS MICROFITA

MARIANA GUIMARAES PRALON 09 October 2012 (has links)
[en] In the present work, the Method of Moments is applied to the analysis of probe fed antennas. The approach uses Green Functions to model the fields within the dielectric layer, which allows to take into account the surface waves excited in the substrate. A numerical algorithm was implemented in order to obtain the microstrip antenna input impedance. The latter is then verified through the comparison with results presented in references. Special attention is given to the analysis of singularities and to the asymptotic behavior of the integrands involved in the numerical solution. A comparison is drawn between the results obtained with the Method of Moments and those obtained with other methods by employing two electromagnetic simulation commercial softwares, Ansoft HFSS and CST. Simulations with different input parameters are performed in order to ensure convergence of the results and allow comparison with results obtained by the Method of Moments. The differences among the results obtained by the several methods addressed in the analysis are presented and the potential causes of them are analyzed.

An empirical study of SD signal delay versus temperature in a plenum grade coaxial cable

Kaur, Sukhdeep 14 February 2012 (has links)
A high resolution speedy delivery time domain reflectometer (SD/TDR) has been developed in the Electrical Engineering department at The University of Texas at Austin. The SD/TDR uses a novel non-sinusoidal signal that does not undergo dispersion during transmission in a lossy media. SD/TDR is used to estimate the length and detect the location of faults in the transmission lines. Time of flight (TOF) is one of the critical parameters of SD/TDR and a function of several temperature dependent factors. Given the TOF and length of a transmission line, signal delay can be computed. This research presents an empirical study of the effect of temperature on the TOF in a plenum grade coaxial cable for temperatures ranging from -3 °C to 60 °C. We also study the effect of temperature on characteristic impedance of the coaxial cable. Finally, a SD double exponential waveform is used to estimate TOF for calibrated short and open terminations. / text

Glide-symmetric Holey EBG Filter Using Multiple Unit Cell Designs

Eliasson, Gustav, Åkerstedt, Lucas January 2021 (has links)
There are more connected wireless devices than everbefore and with the rise of new smart systems such as self-drivingcars and smart cities new antenna solutions for transmittingsignals are needed. One important part of these systems is thefilters which filter out all the unwanted signals. In this report,we present a solution for manufacturing such a filter with apassband from 26-29 GHz and a stopband from 29-60 GHz usinga fully metallic glide-symmetric structure. Ideas of combiningmultiple unit cell designs to achieve wider stopbands and higherattenuation are explored using dispersion engineering wherethe advantages and the disadvantages of using this method arepresented. Furthermore, ways of combining the filter to standardconnections using a coaxial cable to waveguide transition areproposed and designed. The usage of multiple unit cell designsis proven to be a solution for achieving wider stopbands withminimum coupling between modes. / Kandidatexjobb i elektroteknik 2021, KTH, Stockholm

Complete Measurement System for Measuring High Voltage and Electrical Field Using Slab-Coupled Optical Fiber Sensors

Stan, Nikola 01 January 2018 (has links)
A slab-coupled optical fiber sensor (SCOS) falls into a narrow class of all-dielectric optical fiber electric field sensors, which makes it a perfect candidate for measurements of high electric fields in environments where presence of conductors is highly perturbing to the system under test. Its nonlinear response to high fields requires a new nonlinear calibration technique. A nonlinear calibration method is explained and demonstrated to successfully measure high electric fields, as well as high voltages with dynamic range up to 50 dB. Furthermore, a SCOS can be fitted into narrow spaces and make highly localized measurements due to its small size. This allows a SCOS to be integrated inside a standard high voltage coaxial cable, such as RG-218. Effects of partial discharge and arcing is minimized by development of a fabrication method to avoid introduction of impurities, especially air-bubbles, into the cable during SCOS insertion. Low perturbation of the measured voltage is shown by simulating the introduced voltage reflections to be on the order of –50 dB. It is also shown that a SCOS can be inserted into other cables without significant perturbation to the voltage. A complete high voltage and high electric field measurement system is built based on the high-voltage modifications of the SCOS technology. The coaxial SCOS is enhanced for robustness. Enhancements include packaging a SCOS into stronger ceramic trough, strengthening the fiber with kevlar reinforced furcation tubing and protecting the sensor with metal braces and protective shells. The interrogator is protected from electromagnetic interference with an RF-shielded box. Reduction in power losses introduced by the new PANDA-SCOS technology allows interrogator bandwidths to be increased up to 1.2 GHz. The whole measurement process is streamlined with dedicated software, developed specifically for high voltage and electric field measurements with support for the nonlinear calibration.
