Kejlová, Tamara January 2014 (has links)
The thesis "Analysis of the Czech Periodicals' News Coverage of the 2013 Presidential Elections in the Czech Republic" examines how the daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny framed the election campaign. It also focuses on the degree of compliance with the criteria of impartiality in media contents. Texts with the endorsements are also a part of the analysis. The teoretical part draws the typical features of the relationship between the media and politics and the main theoretical and methodological basis for research of the frames and objectivity. It also introduces the concept of media framing as "fragmented paradigm" and objectivity as an unattainable ideal. Foreign researches and a study of Český rozhlas are an integral part of the theoretical section. Their conclusions were used in the analysis itself. The aim of the research carried out by means of a combined quantitative and qualitative content analysis was to determine how Czech daily newspapers responded in their content to direct presidential elections associated with the phenomenon of endorsement. Quantitative analysis focuses on the dominant frames and key issues associated with elections occurring in media contents. Further, it focuses on the extent to which journals presented candidates in the neutral...

Communication financière volontaire des sociétés françaises sur l'actif immatériel et sa perception par le marché / Financial communication and market perception of french companies communicating on intangible assets

Guyot, Malgorzata 07 April 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore and to better understand how French companies manage their voluntary communication on intangible assets. First of all, we peform a content analysis in order to discover the most frequent themes of this communication. We also examine the intensity of quantitative data which appears to remain quite limited. The second study is based on a factor analysis. This part of our research finds that companies adapt their communication depending on their market capitalisation and business sector. Big firms underline their reputation and market shares while small companies are more tempted to communicate on their skills and know-how. There is also a coherence between the themes of communication and the nature of company business. Finally, an observant participation performed in a team of financial analysts aims at comparing provided communication with market needs. On the basis of the results of this study, we can confirm that financial analysts are looking for quantitative data. Unfortunately, they are frequently obliged to deal with the absence of this type of information. In the face of this situation, they are able to include qualitative data in their analysis. But this task requires a lot of good intuition. More developed measure methods of intangible assets would let companies more easily meet market informational needs and consequently increase the profitability of financial communication which frequently remains expensive

Teplá, Jana January 2012 (has links)
World Press Photo 1955-2010: a content analysis of the winning photos is a theoretical and empirical research. In the theoretical section the issues of photography as a reality representing medium, historical and current status of photojournalism as a profession and finally visual sociology including content analysis of photography are described. Main research question is: are there any tendencies in the winning photos' imaging of international events from the beginning of the contest in 1955 to 2010? Six hypotheses which assume these tendencies in the field of photography content as well as in the field of photography production are determined. A content analysis is applied on every World Press Photo of the Year including title and technical data. The goal of this research is to find some latent trends of the way international events are displayed in the photographs and to interpretate them in the terms of media studies. In the empirical section the procedure for the verification of hypotheses, the application of frequency, correlation and factor analysis are described and the results are interpretated. In final conclusion these results are discussed and other research aims to further knowledge in the field of content analysis of photos are proposed.

The appreciation of electroacoustic music : an empirical study with inexperienced listeners

Wolf, Motje January 2013 (has links)
The research contained within this PhD project forms part of the Pedagogical ElectroAcoustic Resource Site project of the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre of De Montfort University Leicester. This thesis contributes to current research in music education and musicology related to electroacoustic music. The purpose of this research was to investigate the influence of teaching on the change in inexperienced listeners’ appreciation of electroacoustic music. A curriculum was developed to introduce electroacoustic music to 11 to 14 year old students (Key Stage 3). The curriculum was based on concepts distinguishing between electroacoustic music using (mainly) real-world sounds and generated sounds. The curriculum is presented in an online learning environment with an accompanying teacher’s handbook. The learning environment represents the prototype for the pedagogical ElectroAcoustic Resource Site offering online learning, blended learning and classroom-based learning. The website was developed following user-centred design; the curriculum was tested in a large-scale study including four Key Stage 3 classes within three schools in Leicester. In five lessons music using real-world sounds (soundscape and musique concrète) was introduced, which included the delivery of a listening training, independent research and creative tasks (composition or devising a role-play). The teaching design followed the methods of active, collaborative and self-regulated learning. Data was collected by using questionnaires, direct responses to listening experiences before and after the teaching, and summaries of the teaching written by the participants. Following a Qualitative Content Analysis, the results of the study show that the participants’ appreciation of electroacoustic music changed during the course of these lessons. Learning success could be established as well as a declining alienation towards electroacoustic music. The principal conclusion is that the appreciation of electroacoustic music can be enhanced through the acquiring of conceptual knowledge, especially through the enhancing of listening skills following the structured listening training as well as the broadening of vocabulary to describe the listening experience.
