The experiences of HIV sero-discordant couples at the Perinatal HIV Research Unit in Soweto, Gauteng Province

Lelaka, Constance Matshidiso 09 1900 (has links)
This qualitative exploratory and descriptive study explored and described the experiences of HIV sero-discordant couples post diagnosis at the Perinatal HIV Research Unit in Soweto, Gauteng Province. Data was collected using in-depth interviews with each individual from seven HIV sero-discordant couples. Following thematic analysis, four themes emerged: immediate response to HIV sero-discordant results; challenges in relation to disclosure of HIV sero-status; limited information on HIV sero-discordant; and the impact of HIV sero-discordant on the couples. All these were mainly linked to poor counselling and inadequate support to HIV sero-discordant couples. The findings of this study have both clinical and policy development implications. Recommendations have been put forward for development of contextual relevant HIV Sero-discordant Couple Counselling and support guidelines focusing of enhancing knowledge and skills of health care professionals responsible for counselling and supporting HIV sero-discordant couples. / Health Studies / MA (Public Health)

Recognition of domestic partnerships in South African law

Manthwa, Tshepo Aubrey 09 1900 (has links)
With the advent of a new constitutional dispensation in South Africa, intimate relationships that were not formally recognised, such as customary marriages, became fully recognised through designated legislation. Domestic partnerships are, however, afforded only limited recognition despite compelling reasons that lead people to domestic partnerships. Domestic partners are also discriminated against based on marital status despite a Constitution that forbids discrimination based on equality, human dignity and marital status. The object of this study is to investigate whether there are sufficient grounds to afford domestic partnerships full recognition similar to that granted to civil marriage. This study includes arguments in favour and against the recognition of domestic partnerships and a discussion of the reasons that lead people into domestic partnerships. There will also be an analysis of the draft Domestic Partnership Bill 36 of 2008 to determine the suitability of the draft Bill to regulate domestic partnerships. This investigation is conducted with reference to relevant draft Bills, legislation, and case law. / Private Law / LLM

Modélisation des machines asynchones et synchrones à aimants avec prise en compte des harmoniques d'espace et de temps : application à la propulsion marine par POD / Modelisation of induction and permanent magnets synchronous machines taking into account time a space harmonics : pOD ship propulsion application

Lateb, Ramdane 19 October 2006 (has links)
This work concerns the modeling and the design of the permanent magnets and asynchronous motors intended for POD ship propulsion. A state of the art is presented, where various topologies of motors designed for this application are approached there. The permanent magnet motor and the induction motor have been chosen for the application. For the permanent magnets motor, a finite element analysis is adopted to design and minimize the main harmonics leading to a quasi sinusoidal back EMF. A finite element model coupled to an electrical circuit allows to predict both current and torque waveforms including time harmonics knowing the voltage waveform of the inverter. The induction motor is designed in such a way to have minimum losses and pulsating torque. For this purpose, a 2D complex finite element method coupled to an electrical circuit is developed. In addition, another 2D finite element-electrical circuit model is proposed to evaluate time harmonics losses and to reconstitute the current and torque waveforms. This model allows to predict the pulsating torques. The validation and verification step is done by using a time stepping finite element software Flux2D and some available measurements (for the permanent magnets motor). The comparison of the calculations obtained by the different methods and software, as well as the available measurements is satisfactory

"Lager utav oro" : Erfarenheter och farhågor kring graviditet och förlossning, hos förlossningsrädda lesbiska och bisexuella kvinnor och transpersoner / "Layers of worry" : Experiences and fears of pregnancy and childbirth in lesbian and bisexual women and transgender people with fear of childbirth

Jonsson, Louise, Wikström, Johanna January 2018 (has links)

An evolutionary psychology perspective on responsibility attributions for infidelity and relationship dissolution

Edmonson, Kindra Lynn 01 January 2011 (has links)
This study investigated responsibility attributions for a partner's emotional infidelity and for a partner's sexual infidelity, and the likelyhood that the victim or partner would end the relationship. This study found a significant relationship between responsibility attributions for a romantic partner's unfaithfulness and the likelihood the relationship would end: the stronger the attributions of personal responsibility the more likely the relationship would dissolve.

Domestic and Cohabitation Relationships Violence Ordinance: a piece of work in progress or the ultimatesolution for gay victims?

Lam, Chi-wai, Michael., 林智偉. January 2012 (has links)
1 January 2010 was a milestone for the survivors and victims of same-sex domestic violence in Hong Kong. After a hard fought legislative battle, the Domestic and Cohabitation Relationships Violence Ordinance (DCRVO) was extended to cover cohabitation relationships irrespective of sexual orientation. With the inclusion of same-sex cohabitants in the legislation, gay survivors are provided the same legal protection as different sex couples. It is believed that equality has been achieved for gay victims, in theory at least. Indeed, the topic of same-sex domestic violence seemed to vanish from the public sphere as soon as the Ordinance was enacted. Nevertheless, considering the cultural and social obstacles experienced by gay victims of domestic violence, e.g. social perception of homosexuality and the fear of being ‘outed’ by reporting the incidents, coupled with a lack of supplementary support services available to people with alternative sexual orientations, it is uncertain how effective this amendment will be to Hong Kong sexual minorities in practice. Therefore, the primary research question for this thesis is to what extent the DCRVO is effective in protecting in practice. This research question will be answered by a combination of qualitative and quantitative empirical research methods. This paper focuses on three areas particularly - the awareness amongst the gay community in Hong Kong of the legislation; the availability of same-sex domestic violence support services; and the subsequent complementary policies provided by the government. This study argues that without adequate complementary policies, the DCRVO will always remain to be a piece of work in progress, and not the ultimate solution for gay victims in Hong Kong. / published_or_final_version / Law / Master / Master of Philosophy

Mills, Magdalena 30 November 2005 (has links)
The increasing demand for couples therapy and its present low success rate led to the question whether Glasser's reality therapy, with its innovative approach, could possibly be of value to couples therapy in South Africa. Glasser emphasizes the importance of healthy personal relationships, freedom of choice and responsibility. In therapy he focuses on the fact that each person has control of what he/she does and thinks and that he/she should take responsibility for it. On the basis of a limited qualitative study, it was found that, with certain reservations, this therapy could make a valuable contribution to the success of couples therapy. Professional persons should be encouraged to apply reality theory in couples therapy, training institutions should train their students in this regard and more comprehensive and in-depth research should be undertaken to determine its value in larger and more representative groups. / Educational Studies / M.
