Návrh centralizace dodavatelů s využitím informačních systémů / Proposal for the Centralization of Suppliers using an Information System

Vyskočilová, Kateřina January 2015 (has links)
The goal of the thesis is the optimization of non-compliant processes and the design of effective workflow for centralization of processing vendor master data at PPG Industries. The idea of unique process leads to savings and also to standardization and thus fulfills legal requirements. In the first part the project deals with the identification of processes, defines central model and process maps used to draft a more efficient process. Proposing part uses the findings to the previous chapters and focuses on implementation to workflow using Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. Final output is the definition of efficient workflow and metrics demonstrating a clear benefit in using these procedures at PPG Industries.

Prevalence of Typical Images in High School Geometry Textbooks

Cannon, Megan N. 28 June 2017 (has links)
Visualization in mathematics can be discussed in many ways; it is a broad term that references physical visualization objects as well as the process in which we picture images and manipulate them in our minds. Research suggests that visualization can be a powerful tool in mathematics for intuitive understanding, providing and/or supporting proof and reasoning, and assisting in comprehension. The literature also reveals some difficulties related to the use of visualization, particularly how illustrations can mislead students if they are not comfortable seeing concepts represented in varied ways. However, despite the extensive research on the benefits and challenges of visualization there is little research into what types of figures students are exposed to through their textbooks. This study examines 14 high school geometry textbooks in total, comprised of eight physical textbooks from the top three major textbook publishers in the United States and six FlexBooks created by a non-profit organization developing free and customizable textbooks online. In each textbook the printed images from four topics were classified: Parallel Lines and Transversals, Classifying Triangles, Parallelograms, and Trapezoids. The ‘typical’ images in each of the four topics were defined and the percentages of images that were typical for each textbook in both the lesson and exercise portions were calculated. Results indicate that lesson portions of sections generally contain more typical images than exercise portions and that the total percentage of typical images in an average section varies from 51.9% typical images in the Parallel Lines and Transversals section to 75.2% typical images in the Trapezoid section. Based on these results we list possible avenues for further research in this area.

Defining rape : emerging obligations for states under international law?

Eriksson, Maria January 2010 (has links)
The prevalence of rape and its widespread impunity, whether committed during armed conflict or peacetime, has been firmly condemned by the UN and its prohibition has been consistently recognised in international law. This development, however, is a rather novel endeavour. The belated response is in part a consequence of rape being characterised by such myths as sexual violence representing an inevitable by-product of war or as being committed by sexual deviants. Its systematic nature has thus been ignored as has the gravity of the offence, often leading to a culture of impunity. This was evident, for example, through the failure to prosecute crimes of rape during the Nuremberg trials, in qualifying it as a harm against a woman’s honour in the 1949 Geneva Convention (IV), or in considering it a violation located in the “private sphere”, thereby beyond regulation by international law. However, substantial efforts have been made in international law to recognise obligations for states to prevent rape. A prohibition of the offence has developed both through treaty law and customary international law, requiring the prevention of rape whether committed by state agents or by a private actor. One measure to prevent such violence has been identified as the duty to enact domestic criminal laws on the matter. The flexibility for states in determining the substance of such criminal laws is increasingly circumscribed, leading to the question of whether a particular definition of rape or certain elements of the crime must be adopted in this process. Elaborations on the elements of the crime of rape have been a late concern of international law, the first efforts made by the ad hoc tribunals (the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia), followed by the regional human rights systems as well as the International Criminal Court. The principal purpose of the thesis is consequently the systematisation and analysis of provisions and emerging norms obliging states to adopt a particular definition of rape in domestic penal codes. The prohibition of rape and, subsequently, the process of defining the crime has been made in three areas of international law – international human rights law, international humanitarian law and international criminal law. Emerging norms in all three regimes are consequently examined in this thesis, bringing to the fore overarching questions on the possible harmonisation of defining rape in these distinct branches of international law. The study will thus provide a contextual approach, aiming to evince whether the definition can be harmonised or if prevailing circumstances, such as armed conflict or peace, should necessarily inform its definition. Ultimately, the advances in international law are evaluated in order to identify possible areas for further development.

Specialoperation som begrepp : Skiljer sig definitionen beroende på vilket lands operationer som studerats?

Bulus, Mine January 2017 (has links)
Since the 1980s there has been an increase in the use of  special operations  and special forces. Although some theorists would say that the use of special operation is as old as the art of war, the scientific study in this subject is not extensive. The author of this dissertation have identified that the concept special operations is defined in different ways and that there seems to be a discrepancy in how the concept is understood among theorists. Harry Yarger, who has written a theory of American special operations states that there is a difference in how other countries conduct special operations. If that is true, definitions of special operations should vary according to nation. The first purpose of this study is to examine chosen definitions of special operations and to identify what differs and what is similar. The second purpose is to see if there is a connection between how the concept is defined and a which category it belongs to. The studied definitions are here categorized according to studies of cases and/or doctrines from one specified nation or several nations. At least two different definitions were chosen in each category, that way the author could compare the definitions within a category to see if they are consistent with each other. By identifying differences and similarities the authors intent was also to find what traits links the three different categories in order to be able to develop a more uniform definition of the concept special operation. The analysis has shown that there are many differences between categories as well as within categories and therefore the conclusion is indecisive – the author has not been able to establish if or not the there is a connection between how the concept is defined and a category. However, those similarities found in every category has been used to make a suggestion to a more uniform definition of special operations: Special operations are of an unorthodox nature. The purpose of these operations are to solve significant political and military problems. Missions can include time limited attacks aiming to destroy, seize, recover or exploit chosen objects. Special operations are conducted by special forces.

The relation between spatial definition and place-making : architectural and urban interiors

Grobler, Anika 11 April 2007 (has links)
Traditionally, interiors are associated with rooms as spaces inside buildings. Spaces for human habitation and interaction are found throughout the built environment and include urban space. Space is a product of social practices and Lefebvre (1991) argues that this process allows for ‘space’ to be transformed into ‘place’. The appropriation of space adds personal meaning to place that Lefebvre refers to as differential space. The study is based on the premise of Augé’s (1995) argument of place and non-place. Place allows for meaning and enrichment with the connotations of identity, history, urban relationships and social life within spatial dimensions and manifestations. Place and space are central to this investigation, as the study aims to determine the relation between spatial definition and place-making. Anthropological, economic, cultural, sociological, geographical, economic, ecological and political aspects that are influences, are accepted and acknowledged, but fall outside the scope of this study. This investigation focuses on the static, physical spatial dimension. A search into the criteria that can be applied to research, describe and define space and create place is conducted. The terminology that constitutes these criteria is identified according to the elements and modulation variables for architectural interiors. The study explores the possibility of developing a general set of criteria that could be collectively applied to all places for human habitation, regardless of the location. Human need for shelter is universal. Can the criteria to achieve this therefore also be collective? Furthermore, if generalities in spatial dimensions and manifestations do exist, can the term ‘interior’ be used collectively for both architectural and urban places? The existing situation of the Donkin Reserve in Central Hill, Port Elizabeth, is examined according to the criteria established in order to determine whether the space is adequately defined and meaningful to the community it serves. Recommendations are made according to the guidelines to improve the sense of place. The research consists of a literature study to establish a theoretical basis and is supplemented with precedent analyses to interpret and demonstrate theoretical concepts. The descriptive survey method as qualitative research methodology is used to collect data. / Dissertation (Master of Interior Architecture)--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Architecture / unrestricted

Defining Religion with Chinese Characters: Interrogating the Criticism of the Freedom of Religion in China.

Gunn, Torri Kenneth January 2011 (has links)
This thesis seeks to explore the points of dissonance and resonance around the understanding and deployment of the term 'religion' between Human Rights Watch, and the government of the People's Republic of China. In doing this, it is highlighted that a fundamental disjunction exists in the meaning of, and the boundaries of, the word 'religion' between these two groups. The space that this difference creates makes discussions on religion and religious freedom between these two groups extremely problematic, primarily because Human Rights Watch seeks to protect the right to religious freedom of groups and individuals that the Chinese government does not consider ‘religion’, but that Human Rights Watch demands they should. This thesis addresses the question of the role of social and cultural relativism in the defining, and the subsequent role in defending, of the term and contents of 'religion'.

Théorie pour la réforme de la procédure pénale : éléments pour une définition juridique de la réforme / Theory for the reform of criminal procedure : elements for a legal definition of the reform

Ayadi, Rim 12 December 2011 (has links)
The last reforms in criminal procedure, such as the new police custody legislation or the one about citizen participation in criminal justice and in minors' judgment, represent as many illustrations which testify of the evolution of criminal procedure. However, how can we really understand the term “reform” or moreover, what is the difference between reform and legislation? No efficient answer can be exposed as regards substantive law. Consequently, the object of the present study is to propose a legal definition of the reform of criminal procedure. It will enable to put an end to the existing confusion on the subject and finally to bring some formal and substantial qualities to the rules concerning criminal procedure. Particularly, the reform has to be an adequate, provoked, measured, concerted and granted legal norm, and has to respect the legal utility principle. These characteristics are the keys to the legal definition of the reform. They also contribute to the quality of the legal definition, thus in the quality of the criminal procedure which is the object of the reform.

Socioekonomický vývoj venkovských oblastí na příkladu okresu Rokycany / Socioeconomic development of rural areas on example of Rokycany district

Koníček, Ondřej January 2015 (has links)
The main goal of this thesis is to identify and characterize elements of development in Rokycany district. To achieve this goal, the district is divided into 4 areas. In addition to the urban area there are defined 3 rural areas: suburban rural area, intermediate rural area and peripheral rural area. For finding out the status and development of these areas the analysis of various socioeconomic indicators is used here. Moreover the classification of municipalities according to level of development is presented here. Conclusions indicate that rural areas of the district Rokycany exhibit varying degrees of acceleration and development. While the suburban rural area is characterized by frenetic housing construction, high levels of business activity and the proportion of university graduates approaching the level of big cities; the peripheral rural area captures significantly unfavorable age structure of the population, a high proportion of people employed in agriculture, seasonal fluctuations in the level of unemployment, lower level of population education and poor access to services and technical infrastructure. Yet neither of the rural areas of the district was between years 2009 and 2014 in population loss. For the economic and social stability of the territory the new factories built by foreign capital have the significant importance. These factories are mostly located along the regional development axis: D5 highway. They have a positive impact on employment, but their strong focus on producing components for automobiles and lower demands on workers' qualifications bring the threat of vulnerability of the districts economy.
