Missional pastoral care : innovation in charismatic evangelical urban practice

Ruddick, Anna E. January 2016 (has links)
A new model of mission is emerging among participants in the urban ministry of the Eden Network which reimagines evangelical identity and missiology. The Eden Network is a charismatic evangelical organisation which has engaged in incarnational urban ministry for the last nineteen years. In the course of my roles as a staff member and as a local participant observer, I identified tensions arising for Eden team members between their inherited evangelical theology and their experiences of mission in urban communities. This research aims to explore this dissonance, identifying the subcultural narratives of evangelicalism and the ways in which these narratives are complicated by lived experience.

Modlitba. Role, místo a význam modlitby v životě členů křesťanské komunity / Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community

Žilková, Miriam January 2018 (has links)
The thesis, "Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community" deals with the topics outlined in its title. It is examined from the standpoint which understands prayer in its Biblical context, as well as how it has been interpreted by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren tradition. The core of the thesis is made up of qualitative research. The goal of the research is to discover how prayer is perceived by believers within a particular Christian community: what place prayer occupies in their lives, what shapes it, what it contributes to them and, at the same time, how they perceive prayer and what kind of meaning corporate prayer has for them. Five deep, semi-structured conversations with research participants helped to achieve the goal of the thesis. The results of the qualitative analyses are presented in several chapters, of which four main chapters contain (1) the benefits of prayer in understanding oneself, and (2) in understanding and perceiving God, (3) prayer as a tool for service, and (4) benefits and deficits connected with prayer. The concluding chapters then summarize the results found in the answers to the survey questions, and further on there is a discussion presented on the understanding of prayer as perceived through the lens...

This complex and heterogeneous population has been, increasingly, target of discussions that seek to understand it better, trying to quantify and describe it, in order to be able to outline ways that best contemplate their needs, to intervene in their extreme situation. The pastoral actions taken with the homeless population in the cities, in turn, has generally favored proselytism and welfare, which eventually reproduce the mechanisms that exclude them and make them leftover in all aspects of life, including religion itself . This is explained by the fact that those pastoral actions are grounded in the old paradigm of mission, in which the assisted is voiceless and become just a depositary of assistance and dogmas. In order to seek a pastoral alternative, we find the SAL Mission, in Santo André, that carries out its mission through the family living with leftover people of urban centers, such as one that may prove to be an important expression of the "face of the mission" to this population. Thus, this thesis aimed to analyze the pastoral of the SAL Mission, through the following guiding question: The pastoral mission adopted by SAL has its foundations in the methodology of family living, which promotes dialogue, returns the voice to the leftover people whom it welcomes, contributing to the construction of their own autonomy? The methodology had two distinct elements. We begin with the systematization of bibliographic references on the homeless population, especially what we conventionally call leftover people , as well as the context in which it is inserted in contemporaneity, and systematization of the bibliography on the theoretical framework, for a critical evaluation of the pastoral methodology used in SAL Mission. Next, we held back at the case study, which aimed the pastoral methodology of SAL Mission in Santo André, that was analyzed through the participant observation and unstructured interviews with the residents of the house. This dissertation is composed of three chapters. The first one aimed to present the leftover people, who are part of an army of excluded and marginalized, and live on the streets in urban centers, pointing their relationship with the city. The second one presented the results obtained in the case study of SAL Mission. And, finally, the third chapter aimed to point the way for the family living methodology, in the pastoral action, for the leftover of urban centers, such as one that can contribute to the autonomy of this population.
