[en] CONCEPTION AND MODELING OF EDUCATIONAL OBJECTS FOR UNDERSTANDING OF MOTORCYCLES/BICYCLES DYNAMICS IN ENGINEERING DESIGN / [pt] CONCEPÇÃO E MODELAGEM DE OBJETOS EDUCACIONAIS PARA COMPREENSÃO DA DINÂMICA DE MOTOCICLETAS/BICICLETAS EM PROJETOS DE ENGENHARIA

GUILHERME NOBREGA MARTINS 05 June 2019 (has links)
[en] The conception and modeling of educational objects for understanding of motorcycles/bicycles dynamics in engineering design have in this thesis two general objectives: understanding the dynamics of two wheels vehicles of gage zero and resenting the solution for the incompatibility problem, even if partial, of the engineering graduate profile when referred to the profile desired by the job market. To accomplish with the first goal, this work develops the modeling of bicycles and motorcycles using the Bond Graphs and Power Flow techniques, to then describe education apparatuses developed in LDSM (Mechatronic Systems Development Laboratory of PUC-Rio) designed to aid in the understanding of those vehicles. In order to answer the question that involves the second general objective, this work presents a brief study on active learning and then, through the analysis of the mechanical and mechatronics engineering courses pedagogical projects, proposes a solution for engineers training using the active learning methodology, the so called PBL. The author uses the knowledge obtained in achieving the first objective to propose the use of projects created around the considered vehicles as tools to the teaching/learning process. Through bibliographical researches and through comparison of reach and inclusion among, on one hand, the current curricular organization and, on the other hand, that one proposed using active learning methodology, the author shows that this last one fulfills satisfactorily the rigor of the engineer s technical formation. Through bibliographical researches and experimentation in class, he verifies that the new curricular organization can go further and also covers the competences not linked to the technical formation that the current organization is not able to cover satisfactorily, as social- environmental awareness and professional ethics, among others. Finally, the work indicates new paths to follow, both in the modeling of such vehicles, as in the study and use of the researched methodology.

A conceptual model for collaborative e-learning based on the execution of projects.

Luisa Aleyda Garcia González 20 December 2005 (has links)
Engineering Education in e-learning environments demands the implementation of practical methods that facilitates learning of contents of the type: procedures and attitudes by means of action, of the interaction among participants and the integration of knowledge of different fields. This learning can only be effective in significant contexts and from specific situations that are stimulated by using the project method. The effectiveness of this method is reached when used of preference in groups; in such a way that a participant learns with another by sharing resources and knowledge and acquiring or exercising a set of personal abilities, which are necessary for the professional work of the engineer. In spite of the well-recognized importance of the project method for collaborative e-learning, no comprehensive guidelines have yet been set out for distance education. This scenario represented the main motivation to propose a conceptual Model for Collaborative e-Learning Based on the execution of Web supported Projects (MAC-BP). This model is organized in three sub models related among them representing the creation, the execution, and the support of the collaborative instructional activities used in Engineering Teaching. One model is devoted to plan the activities and responsibilities of the specialist, the person in charge of the elaboration of contents and planning the activities of the group based on the project method. The second is a collaborative model aiming to formalize the coordination of the interactions among the members of the group, through a finite automaton. The last model is conceived as a supporting environment to the collaborative instructional activities aiming to integrate the functionalities required by CSCL (Computer Supported Cooperative Learning) environments, some of them already existing, however highly scattered among the available systems for supporting collaboration. On the other hand, the conception of instructional activities for groups is a time-consuming task and constitutes a laborious process. In general, the creation of the involved resources in a specific learning action is intimately related to the format of the tool used for its creation and management, making difficult to reuse the educational elements in new applications. This is a additional motivation to intend to make some contribution to this field. In this work, the shareable elements of collaborative learning (objects and actions) involved in the model MAC-BP are identified. In addition, a set of technical specifications is suggested for the elaboration and use of these elements, according to ADL-SCORM and IMS-LD specifications previously reported for the EAD model focused on individual learning. In summary, the two proposals showed in this work intend to contribute to the efforts of standardization of resources and procedures in order to support the teaching-learning process by means of electronic systems conceived to support the collaborative learning in the investigation of CSCL systems. These proposals indicate ways to innovate the pedagogical process, and constitute guides for instructors to develop new applications of project-based collaborative learning and the elaboration of the involved instructional elements. In addition, the proposals give a solution to the coordination of group collaborative interactions during the execution of projects and represent a support to collaborative learning in Engineering.

Vom Innovationsimpuls zum Markteintritt. Theorie, Praxis, Methoden

27 November 2014 (has links) (PDF)

Tessier, Virginie 02 1900 (has links)
This thesis proposes an exploratory study on teamwork practices of design students in the context of project-based learning (in the domains of product and service design, interior design, urbanism, etc.). This study aims to develop a model of assessment for learning teamwork. For the past few decades, teamwork has been integrated within most design curricula. These social learning experiences place students in authentic situations, but recurring challenges keep emerging regarding their educational integration. We aim to enhance our understanding of assessment, which has a crucial influence on learning experiences. Based on a literature review on teamwork dynamics, the research is structured in two stages. Firstly, the research focuses on better understanding team learning experiences. Secondly, we seek to identify guidelines to enhance assessment for learning teamwork during design projects. Our research objectives are developed into the following questions: How do students experience their learning process when they work as a team while designing? And how to support the development of teamwork skills? Assessment for learning will guide us in considering assessment as a key aspect to engage learners in judging their performance. Assessment for learning values social externalization over internalization through the zones of development. This position guides toward a theoretical framework based on the activity theory and the theory of expansive learning. The combination of these frameworks offers a strong theoretical structure based on collectivity, mediation, and orientation toward an expansive object. Expansive learning sees learning as moving from an abstract understanding to concrete actions to improve the system’s initial state. The adoption of an interventionist approach, as proposed by activity theory, will redefine the researcher’s role to encourage participants to take action. The methodological strategy is organized around the team projects of 22 students from the Faculty of environmental design of University of Montreal (Canada). The data was collected from multiple case studies over few weeks of teamwork. It was gathered through weekly questionnaires and interviews. Using these complementary qualitative tools, participants shared their experiences by discussing their processes. A multiphase strategy allowed for simultaneous data collection and analysis. The first stage of analysis uncovers the characteristics of the learners’ lived teamwork experiences. In total, 33 characteristics and their respective factors were organized into the 5 categories of our model entitled: “zone of proximal development for teamwork skills”, structured according to training levels. The second part of the analysis concentrates on the theoretical validation of the model by enriching the model with the components to instruct and to assess (according to the stage of the object, types of knowledge, task qualities, learners’ capacities, and types of regulation). Finally, these guidelines are tested in regard to expansive learning by looking closely at the challenges and tensions experienced by the participants to translate each participant’s cognitive journey. This study seeks to contribute to the proposition of a coherent pedagogical framework in accordance with training levels and the basics of the discipline. Our model offers a pedagogical structure that is constructive and dynamic as it brings new knowledge to the student while being guided by an expansive structure towards collaborative design. The proposed framework is built on the reflective journey of students on themselves and others, solicited for greater autonomy. The contributions of this study are pertinent for design students, practitioners, and teachers. They seek an enhanced coherence with the discipline supported by an active perspective for better preparation of students to their future professional work environment.

MEASURING AUTHENTIC LEARNING WITHIN PURDUE UNIVERSITY’S EPICS PROGRAM

Graham Pierce Lyon (16666329) 27 July 2023 (has links)

In this dissertation, I investigate the authentic learning experiences of students participating in the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program at Purdue University within the framework of authentic education. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the study assesses the performance of new and returning students across five key outcomes that measure authentic learning during a single semester. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant main effects for time of assessment and type of student on performance, with an overall improvement in all outcomes observed from mid-term to final evaluations and returning students typically outperforming new students. Interaction effects between time and type were also examined, revealing subtle yet complex dynamics in students’ learning trajectories. The findings hold implications for enhancing authentic learning, especially in engineering design contexts, and offer insights to guide future implementation of and improvements to authentic education initiatives, particularly the EPICS program. Despite certain limitations, the research opens avenues for future investigations into diverse aspects of authentic education in STEM and beyond.

Gajdová, Magdalena January 2021 (has links)
This work analyses music activities of English-speaking children of pre-school age, attending international schools in Prague, following the British Curricula. The goal of this work is to develop and to validate teaching materials of musical activities, supporting children with different native languages from the language of the teaching material, those in transition period, and those with communication barriers, and to offer concrete implementation strategies for teachers of music in both Czech and international schools. The theoretical part compares Czech and British music curricula for pre-school children. It defines terms such as transition period and describes its course in Czech and international environments. Furthermore, it addresses the role of music during this stage of development and explains the concepts of project-based learning and music integration project. As theoretical underpinning for the practical portion, the work offers detailed discussion of musical factors, syllabic structure both in English and Czech language, and the variations in interpretation of musical fairy tales. The practical part describes the goals, methods, and procedures of the action research focused on the implementation of the musical fairy tale in Czech and English, as well as reflection and evaluation of...
