Gender, ethnicity and peacebuilding in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict / Gender, ethnicity and peacebuilding in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflictZamanov, Ramil January 2020 (has links)
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a territorial and ethnic conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh that has led to war, displacement, trauma and continuing animosities. This thesis examines the differential long-term effects of the conflict in the lives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and refugees from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh who have remained largely excluded from current peacebuilding initiatives. Ethnographic fieldwork and interviews were conducted with displaced and refugee women and with queers in Sumgayit and Baku in Azerbaijan and around Tbilisi in Georgia. The research uses an intersectional sensibility to explore the constitution and effects of economic hardship, ill-health and social exclusion as well the militarization in the life histories and everyday experiences of IDP and refugee women and queers. On this basis, it reflects what their participation, insights and concerns could contribute to the stalled peace processes and what cultural and societal changes will be required for peacebuilding and a more lasting resolution of this frozen conflict. Key words: Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, gender, ethnicity, intersectionality, peacebuilding, militarization, queer community, IDP and refugee women 1

A “queer” approach for equal care : A literature study on experiences from meeting in healthcareLingås, Veide January 2020 (has links)
Background: Equal care and reducing differences in health are central goals for health care. Based on this, the nurse is considered to play an important role by improving care as well as meeting patients with respect and with regard to people's differences. Research shows that LGBTQ people are exposed to discrimination and marginalization in society at large but also in healthcare which contributes to poorer mental and physical health for these groups. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses' and LGBTQ person's experiences from meeting in care. Method: Inductive qualitative literature study with a queer perspective as a theoretical frame was performed. The selection consisted of scientific articles with a qualitative approach and which describe meetings between nurses and LGBTQ persons in care. The data collection was performed through searches in two databases, CINAHL and MEDLINE and resulted in nine articles that were analysed with thematic analysis. Results: Experiences from meetings between nurses and LGBTQ persons in care are described in three themes: The nurse's competence, Humanity in the meeting and Accessibility with the overall theme Stigmatization related to heteronormativity. Conclusions: Nurses need a norm-critical approach to meet LGBTQ persons with respect and without discrimination. The nurse's competence and attitude is connected with the care's accessibility for LGBTQ persons, which is also important for a more equal health. The heteronormativity has an overall impact on all the parts that are important for LGBTQ person's health and access to good care. More interdisciplinary research in the subject is needed to create change towards a more equal health in society.

Influence of Pornography Use and Acceptance Typology on Same-Sex Couple Relationship and Sexual SatisfactionTori A DiBona (9735566) 16 December 2020 (has links)
<p>This quantitative study sought to expand upon research surrounding the influence pornography use has on relationship and sexual satisfaction for gays and lesbians. Previous literature has primarily focused on the couple outcomes associated with pornography use for heterosexual romantic relationships. This research was conducted and conceptualized through the lens of queer and minority stress theory. It was hypothesized that amount of shared pornography use would be positively associated with relationship and sexual satisfaction for same-sex couples. Additionally, it was hypothesized that the relationship between amount of shared pornography use and relationship as well as sexual satisfaction for same-sex couples will be more strongly positively associated for a high level of acceptance of pornography use. Lastly, it was hypothesized that the relationship between the amount of shared pornography use and level of relationship as well as sexual satisfaction will be more strongly positively associated for women than men. Five of the six hypotheses were not statistically significant. The relationship between amount of shared pornography use and level of sexual satisfaction was strongly positively associated for higher levels of acceptance of pornography use. In addition, higher levels of acceptance of pornography use were related to higher levels of relationship satisfaction. Regarding control variables, relationship status was found to be significantly associated with relationship satisfaction. Participants who reported being either engaged or married indicated higher satisfaction with the current state of their romantic relationship than participants who were dating or cohabitating. Strengths and limitations, clinical implications, and future directions for research are explored.<br></p>

/ˈfluːɪd/ Design : Towards an inclusive fashion retailBalestan, Thomas January 2020 (has links)
/ˈfluːɪd/ is a project that explores the retail part of the fashion world. By creating an inclusive shopping experience, this project aims to escape the binary world of clothing stores. Working with second-hand pieces, the goal is not to create new garments, but to give everyone access to the full spectrum of clothes. In that way, /ˈfluːɪd/ aspires to provide a safe place which inspires self-expression and stimulates individuality as well as a sense of togetherness. Fluidity being the core concept, the proposal addresses different matters, such as gender, size and audacity. To implement gender fluidity, there will not be any gender categorization, but the clothes will be sorted by colors only. Getting rid of the existing labels and producing a new flexible size chart will initiate a personalized experience and harmonize the systems between the different brands. Designing /ˈfluːɪd/ is designing both an experience and a physical space, to provide a place which encourages anyone to express themself in public.

The following text is a study that addresses the relationships between phenomenology, queer, orientation, objects, existence, game- and leveldesign. The text dives into the creation of characters for games with a focus on philosophy and how it can be used to design games. The study addresses discussions about how in our design, how philosophy and thinking about being and even one's own "I" and how the perception of "the self" can influence design and whether it does so at all. The text addresses various methods used for design, but also methods for project management. In the research we also see if something happens in the decisions or in how we use the methods to produce the design. The study addresses various design philosophy authors in support of how thinking and interaction between aspects can take shape to create an entertaining experience that at the same time is exciting and mysterious. The Theory of Fun by Raph Koster is an example. In his book he presents various theories about how man and the game interact with each other, and what it is that makes the game "fun" to play.

"I'm not the one who's gender confused, society is" : A qualitative study about living as a transgender person in a cis- and heteronormative society.Arvidsson, Malin, Båtelsson, Jeili January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine transgendered persons experiences of social norms andattitudes related to their gender identity. More specifically the study focused on thecisgender- and hetero norm and how these affect transgender persons transition process andtheir everyday life. The method used to collect data was by reading five autobiographicalbooks written by transgendered persons. Collected data was analyzed using queer theory andthematized into four different themes; The importance of passing, The environments attitudesand reactions, To be yourself or someone else and Social relationships. The results indicatethat transgendered persons are highly affected by norms and are often victims ofdiscrimination due to their gender identity. To “pass” as either man or woman is thereforecrucial to avoid negative attitudes and harassment. The results also showed the difficulty fortransgendered persons to reveal their gender identity to society and their close ones and howdifferent reactions can either discourage or normalize the heteronormative structures thatexists in our society. The conclusion was that transgendered persons are affected bycisgendered- and heteronormative norms in both their transition process and their everydaylife. Society is categorizing people as either man or woman, and whoever doesn’t fit in thegiven gender roles is classed as deviant

Queer Students’ Perceptions of Inclusion at ABC Community College: A PhenomenologyCanedo, Francis 01 December 2019 (has links)
This qualitative study examined the lived experiences of Queer students at ABC Community College. Using phenomenology as its guiding framework, transcribed interviews were analyzed in order to seek the phenomenon of the experience. Examination of the literature suggested that Queer students’ experiences of discrimination could have a negative impact on academic achievement and that inclusive and affirming spaces have the opposite effect.
Further, Queer students search for affirming spaces from their faculty and peers, and the engagement these spaces provide may be good prognosticator academic achievement. When students are provided with inclusive spaces, they may be more likely to come out, live openly, and represent themselves authentically (Kosciw J. G., Greytak, Palmer, & Boesen, 2014).
Other researchers are encouraged to replicate the study with a larger number of participants, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Gerda Wegener : Erotiska illustrationer i det sapfiska ParisEkelund, Ina January 2022 (has links)
