Estimation du contrôle nerveux autonome et de l'activité intrinsèque du système cardiaque au moyen de l'analyse de la variabilité des paramètres cardiovasculaires : effets de l'âge et de l’activité physique / Estimation of cardiovascular autonomic conntrol and the intrinsic heart rate from cardiovascular time frequency analysis : Effect of aging ans physical activity

Filliau, Christophe 15 December 2015 (has links)
This study is part of works about understanding of cardiovascular autonomic control mechanisms using heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. In a first study, we observed HRV from a whole overnight RR periods recordings in order to compare subject from eleven to fifty-nine years old. These recordings allowed to identify Slow Wave Sleep and to compute HRV during spontaneous and reproducible conditions. To explain our results, we estimated the intrinsic heart rate (IHR) from time frequency analysis of RR periods during an incremental exercise test. This method allows avoiding classical pharmacological use to measure IHR. During an incremental exercise test, cardiac autonomic control changes with vagal withdrawal at the beginning and next, sympathetic activation. High Frequency instantaneous spectral component (HF) is linked to vagal withdrawal from the sinus node. The drop of this component at the beginning of exercise allows us to visualize the moment of maximal vagal withdrawal. The Smooth Pseudo Wigner Ville time – frequency analysis (INRIA, France) was used to compute the instantaneous HF power of HRV. Our works aimed to build an exercise test to identify the heart rate at minimal HF power (HR@HFmin). At this rate, the heart is under minimal autonomic control: complete vagal withdrawal combined with a weak sympathetic control. Therefore, it might provide an estimation of IHR. After the identification of this parameter, we observed that the difference between HR@HFmin and resting heart rate was correlated to HF component of HRV. Moreover, HR@HFmin decreased with aging and was close to IHR values found in previous publications. In a last study, we found that HR@HFmin decreased in a sedentary population after three month of “Touch-Rugby” training. To conclude, time frequency analysis of RR recordings obtained during an incremental exercise test seems to provide IHR detection.

Development and Deployment of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies

Jung, Jae Sung 06 March 2014 (has links)
Solar and wind generation are one of the most rapidly growing renewable energy sources, and is regarded as an appealing alternative to conventional power generated from fossil fuel. This is leading to significant levels of distributed renewable generation being installed on distribution circuits. Although renewable generation brings many advantages, circuit problems are created due to its intermittency, and overcoming these problems is a key challenge to achieving high penetration. It is necessary for utilities to understand the impacts of Photovoltaic (PV) generation on distribution circuits and operations. An impact study is intended to quantify the extent of the issues, discover any problems, and investigate alternative solutions. In this manner, system wide and local impact study are proposed in the dissertation. 1) System wide impact study This study considers system effects due to the addition of Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) generation. The DER and PHEV are considered with energy storage technology applied to the residential distribution system load. Two future year scenarios are considered, 2020 and 2030. The models used are of real distribution circuits located near Detroit, Michigan, and every customer load on the circuit and type of customer are modeled. Monte Carlo simulations are used to randomly select customers that receive PHEV, DER, and/or storage systems. The Monte Carlo simulations provide not only the expected average result, but also its uncertainty. 2) Local impact study Analysis of high PV penetration in distribution circuits using both steady-state and quasi steady-state impact studies are presented. The steady-state analysis evaluates impacts on the distribution circuit by comparing conditions before and after extreme changes in PV generation at three extreme circuit conditions, maximum load, maximum PV generation, and when the difference between the PV generation and the circuit load is a maximum. The quasi steady-state study consists of a series of steady-state impact studies performed at evenly spaced time points for evaluating the spectrum of impacts between the extreme impacts. Results addressing the impacts of cloud cover and various power factor control strategies are presented. PV penetration levels are limited and depend upon PV generation control strategies and the circuit design and loading. There are tradeoffs in PV generation control concerning circuit voltage variations, circuit losses, and the motion of automated utility control devices. The steady state and quasi steady-state impact studies provide information that is helpful in evaluating the effect of PV generation on distribution circuits, including circuit problems that result from the PV generation. In order to fully benefit from wind power, accurate wind power forecasting is an essential tool in addressing this challenge. This has motivated researchers to develop better forecast of the wind resources and the resulting power. As a solution for wind generation, frequency domain approach is proposed to characterize and analyze wind speed patterns in the dissertation. 3) Frequency Domain Approach This study introduces the frequency domain approach to characterize and analyze wind speed patterns. It first presents the technique of and the prerequisite conditions for the frequency domain approach. Three years of wind speed data at 10 different locations have been used. This chapter demonstrates that wind speed patterns during different times and at different locations can be well characterized by using the frequency domain approach with its compact and structured format. We also perform analysis using the characterized dataset. It affirms that the frequency domain approach is a useful indicator for understanding the characteristics of wind speed patterns and can express the information with superior accuracy. Among the various technical challenges under high PV penetration, voltage rise problems caused by reverse power flows are one of the foremost concerns. The voltage rises due to the PV generation. Furthermore, the need to limit the voltage rise problem limits PV generators from injecting more active power into the distribution network. This can be one of the obstacles to high penetration of PVs into circuits. As a solution for solar generation, coordinated control of automated devices and PV is proposed in the dissertation. 4) Coordinated Automated Device and PV Control A coordinating, model-centric control strategy for mitigating voltage rise problems due to PV penetration into power distribution circuits is presented. The coordinating control objective is to maintain an optimum circuit voltage distribution and voltage schedule, where the optimum circuit operation is determined without PV generation on the circuit. In determining the optimum circuit voltage distribution and voltage schedule, the control strategy schedules utility controls, such as switched capacitor banks and voltage regulators, separate from PV inverter controls. Optimization addresses minimizing circuit losses and motion of utility controls. The coordinating control action provides control setpoints to the PV inverters that are a function of the circuit loading or time-of-day and also the location of the PV inverter. Three PV penetration scenarios are considered, 10%, 20%, and 30%. Baselines with and without coordinating controls for circuit performance without PV generation are established, and these baselines are compared against the three PV penetration scenarios with and without coordinating control. Simulation results are compared and differences in voltage variations and circuit losses are considered along with differences in utility control motion. Results show that the coordinating control can solve the voltage rise problem while minimizing circuit losses and reducing utility control motion. The coordinating control will work with existing PV inverter controls that accept control setpoints without having to modify the inverter controls. 5) Coordinated Local and Centralized PV Control Existing distribution systems and their associated controls have been around for decades. Most distribution circuits have capacity to accommodate some level of PV generation, but the question is how much can they handle without creating problems. It proposes a Configurable, Hierarchical, Model-based, Scheduling Control (CHMSC) of automated utility control devices and photovoltaic (PV) generators. In the study here the automated control devices are assumed to be owned by the utility and the PV generators and PV generator controls by another party. The CHMSC, which exists in a hierarchical control architecture that is failure tolerant, strives to maintain the voltage level that existed before introducing the PV into the circuit while minimizing the circuit loss and reducing the motion of the automated control devices. This is accomplished using prioritized objectives. The CHMSC sends control signals to the local controllers of the automated control devices and PV controllers. To evaluate the performance of the CHMSC, increasing PV levels of adoption are analyzed in a model of an actual circuit that has significant existing PV penetration and automated voltage control devices. The CHMSC control performance is compared with that of existing, local control. Simulation results presented demonstrate that the CHMSC algorithm results in better voltage control, lower losses, and reduced automated control device motion, especially as the penetration level of PV increases. / Ph.

Wetzk, Volker, Quos, Christian 08 November 2023 (has links)

[pt] ESQUEMAS ORTOGONAIS DE ACCESO MÚLTIPLO EM CANAIS LINEARES E NÃO LINEARES / [en] ORTHOGONAL MULTIPLE ACCESS SCHEMES IN LINEAR AND NON-LINEAR CHANNELS

EMILIO RODRIGUEZ HERNANDEZ 28 June 2021 (has links)
[en] Wireless communications are one of the pillars of the development of the new generations of mobile communications. Each generation has used some multiple access technique to take advantage of the channel s resources. This dissertation presents an analysis of two orthogonal multiplexing techniques. Both techniques implement block transmission, where one is combined with the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) approach, while the other uses the multicarrier transmission technique Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The performance and spectral occupation of both techniques and their advantages are analyzed. Analytical expressions for the Power Spectral Density of the signals were obtained, which allowed establishing comparisons between both methods. The study of these multiplexing techniques is carried out in different propagation channels to evaluate the behavior of both systems in general. The three types of channels evaluated in this work are linear and time-invariant, linear and time-variant and, finally, non-linear and time-invariant. Each type of channel was modeled in matrix form for both systems independently. The simulations consider the Zero Forcing and Minimum Mean Squared Error equalizers, assuming a known channel.

Evidence for a break in the diffuse extragalactic neutrino spectrum

Naab, Richard 16 October 2024 (has links)
The origin of cosmic rays remains a century-old mystery in astrophysics. With the advent of modern large-scale observatories, those cosmic rays have been measured at ever higher energies, but also other messenger particles such as gamma rays and neutrinos are now used to study the non-thermal universe. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has established the extragalactic diffuse neutrino flux through various detection channels, whose origin also remains largely unexplained to this date. The work presented in this thesis uses track- and cascade-like event selections used previously for such measurements. Both are combined, for the first time, using a coherent modeling of the signal and background events as well as the detector response. The coherent modeling is developed in this thesis, with a dedicated focus on using a novel simulation method to treat detector response uncertainties consistently. For the first time, evidence for structure in the energy spectrum of the extragalactic diffuse neutrino flux is found, exhibiting a flux excess around 30 TeV and flux deficits at lower as well as higher energies compared to the previously used single power law spectral model. The single power law model is rejected with 4.4 sigma when compared to a broken power law hypothesis. Various spectral models are studied and the robustness of this result is demonstrated. This precise measurement of the extragalactic neutrino flux and the evidence for a break in the spectrum enable a better understanding of extragalactic neutrino emitters. The methodology developed in this thesis also lays the groundwork for future analyses combining high-energy neutrino datasets.

Comparative study of spectral analysis methods for clinical for clinical electrocardiography / Συγκριτική μελέτη μεθόδων ανάλυσης σήματος στο πεδίο των συχνοτήτων για το κλινικό ηλεκτροκαρδιογράφημα

Σταυρινού, Μαρία 01 July 2014 (has links)
The spectral analysis of heart rate variability is a tool that gained more and more clinical importance in the latest years. It can be used in order to access autonomic function on the cardiovascular system through the evaluation of the different frequency bands of the HRV. So far different mathematical approaches have been used towards this aim, often with contradictory results. Therefore, the need for standardization of the methods seems more and more important. In this thesis 2 non-parametric, Fourier-based methods and two parametric based on autoregressive modeling were used in order to extract the power spectral density of patients with epilepsy. Their results were statistically compared to age matched controls. The analysis have shown that when a parametric method is used, a careful model order selection method must be used, and when this is accomplished, the power spectrum could more efficient highlight differences between controls and patients. The results between non-parametric and parametric methods were different, therefore these methods cannot be considered interchangeable. The analysis methodolgy established in this first part of the study has been used to analyse HRV signals from patients before and after deep brain stimulation.

Péloquin-Guay, Mathilde 09 1900 (has links)
Boat induced waves generate additional stress on banks and should be included in bank erosion predictive models. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of boat generated waves on near bank flow in a fluvial environment. We used a longitudinal array of four bi-directional eletromagnetic current meters (ECMs) perpendicular to the bank and two optical backcattering sensors (OBSs) set back to back, one facing the river bank (inner looking) and the other towards the river (outer looking) to measure mean and turbulent properties of the horizontal and vertical flow velocities and suspended sediment fluxes generated by the waves. The waves were generated using a 16 ft long boat equipped with a 40hp motor. The effect of three different distances between the bank and sailing line (5, 10, 15 m) and of three different speeds of the vessel (5, 15 and 25 km/h) was evaluated. Five replicates of each combination of distance and speed were realized for a total of 45 passages. Variability of flows conditions, wave characteristics and turbidity properties were characterized and spectral analyses were performed to separate oscillatory and turbulent flow induced by boat generated waves. An important variability in suspended sediment response to the passages of boat wave is observed between replications and the effect of speed and distance of sailing line is nonlinear. It was often unbalanced between the inner and outer looking OBS suggesting that the bank changed its morphology. Cross-correlation between hydraulic and turbidity variables show the significance of the relation between shear stress and suspended sediment transport variables. This study provides quantitative relations between wave dynamics and plumes of suspended sediment that could help to develop mitigation measures in fluvial environments where vessel traffic represents a major issue for bank erosion and retreat.
