Management By Crisis: Land Trust Conservation Engagement And Methods In VermontLintilhac, Louise Sopher 01 January 2015 (has links)
Planning a future for the landscapes we live in can be a daunting challenge for many communities in Vermont. Conservation initiatives affect the quality of life for all community members and can be difficult if not impossible to change in the event of poor planning. Through examining stakeholder relationships with land trusts I have explored the complexities of planning processes used by land trusts in Vermont for conservation initiatives
The study involved one statewide land trust, the Vermont Land Trust, and two community land trusts, the Stowe Land Trust and the Duxbury Land Trust. I used qualitative methods including document review, observation and interviews to gather data on land trust planning. My study shows how stakeholder relationships shape conservation initiatives, what strategies land trusts use to aid stakeholder involvement, and finally, how stakeholder input affects conservation easements and stewardship.
Interviews with multiple internal and external stakeholders for the three land trusts indicate a negative feedback loop within the organizational structure of each land trust I call "management by crisis." My case study examples suggest that stakeholders do not get involved in conservation until there is a threat to the landscape. This makes strategic planning difficult and limits a land trust's ability to link important parcels together for environmental and social benefit.
I suggest that management by crisis can be replaced with positive feedback using Community Based Participatory Research. This approach relies on communities initiating projects and being an integral part of the planning process from the beginning of a conservation initiative. By involving stakeholders from the conception of a conservation project, a land trust can better evaluate community needs in relation to social and environmental wellbeing.

[en] EXPORT PLANNING PRACTICES IN BRAZILIAN FIRMS AND PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY / [pt] PRÁTICAS DE PLANEJAMENTO DE EXPORTAÇÃO EM EMPRESAS BRASILEIRAS E IMPLICAÇÕES SOBRE O DESEMPENHO: UM ESTUDO EXPLORATÓRIOMARCOS ROBERTO CORREA MOREIRA LIMA 22 November 2013 (has links)
[en] The motivation for this study came from the recognition that i there is a
controversy in the literature as to whether strategic planning would help firms
enhance their performance; ii there are few studies on the impact of export
planning; iii there is anecdotal evidence that Brazilian firms in particular,
exporters) would not have systematized planning practices; but also iv Carneiro
et al. 2011 found empirical evidence that planning by Brazilian exporters would
seem to pay off. A review of the literature was conducted in order to uncover the
conceptual domain map of export planning, as well as to detail components for
each conceptual dimension. Such preliminary conceptual framework was used as
a flexible guide to conduct in-depth interviews with five Brazilian exporters. This
exploratory study shed light on which aspects of export planning seem to be used
by Brazilian exporters and it also indicated that there can be relevant differences
in export planning practices across firms, depending on the level of their export
intensity. An additional contribution of this study was the proposition of a
conceptual and operational framework of the export planning construct, which
was made possible by the interplay of the literature with the findings of this
research. Such framework seems to be comprehensive and generic enough to be
used in future empirical studies about the antecedents and consequences of export
planning. The impact of export planning on firm performance could not be clearly
established from this study and remains an issue for future research. From a
managerial perspective, this study may be useful since it brings a comprehensive
conceptual model that can serve as a starting point for the establishment of a more
structured strategic planning effort. Besides, the detailed framework proposed
herein can help managers reflect upon which particular aspects of export planning
would seem to exert more influence on potential results of their export operations.

O processo de implantação do planejamento estratégico em uma Santa Casa do interior paulista: análise sob a perspectiva da pesquisa-ação / The process of implantation of strategic planning in a Santa Casa of interior paulista: analysis from the perspective of action researchSilva, Thiago da 09 April 2019 (has links)
The philanthropic institutions, especially the Santas Casas, have enormous relevance in the SUS (Health Unic System) care in Brazil. In most cities, the only service for the needy population is made by these entities. Many of them require a management shock; on the other hand, inadequate funding hampers certain progress in the medium and long term. In the city of Franca, a proactive intervention proposal is implemented by the Tripartite Management Committee, made up of members of the State, City Hall, Public Prosecutor\'s Office and the Institution itself, with the purpose of managing the institution, avoiding increased bank indebtedness and guaranteeing the population attendance. In order to achieve this result, a traditional management tool, Strategic Planning, was implemented to provide answers to the management committee, creating a systematic view on all areas of the Hospital Complex. The present work has the objective of analyzing the implantation of the Strategic Planning in the Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Franca, located in Franca - SP

Physical asset management maturity in mining: a case studyMona, Bonginkosi Johan January 2016 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of the Witwatersrand, in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters in Engineering.
May 2016 / Successful implementation and execution of asset management strategy is found to be a critical
element in driving value, which depends on physical assets’ performance. This paper shows that
strategic asset management targets measured as AM Maturity are often not attained. This study
identifies key issues that prevent mining organisations from attaining the desired level of Asset
Management Maturity. A qualitative methodology was utilised on a single case study design in
order to investigate a particular phenomenon which is Asset Management Maturity at A-Coal
site. The study revealed revealed the following key issues: lack of strong Asset Management
leadership; lack of a favourable organisational structure which will provide Asset Managers with
credibility and the authority to make decisions in support of organisational objectives; no
leadership support; and a lack of training obviate the benefits that can be realised from
improvement initiatives which motivated, committed and enthusiastic employees will be
delivering. In addition to these challenges are organisational culture and a certain level of
employees’ competitiveness in the field of asset management. / MT2016
