Nesta dissertação são apresentados os resultados obtidos na elaboração de um sistema flexível de monitoração e controle de ensaios experimentais através de uma rede de computadores. É proposta uma infra-estrutura com base em instrumentação virtual e uma metodologia para o desenvolvimento de um laboratório virtual multi-usuários com acesso via Internet através de páginas Web. São selecionadas as ferramentas que melhor se adaptam à integração entre hardware e software para possibilitar o controle de equipamentos de forma remota, através de rede de computadores utilizando um browser Web. O escopo de maior abrangência deste projeto propõe a implementação de um sistema físico utilizando o acervo instrumental disponível no grupo Sensores Integráveis e Microssistemas - SIM. O principal objetivo é o controle dos parâmetros de funcionamento de dispositivos eletrônicos em um experimento genérico, através da Internet, utilizando uma interface amigável e intuitiva. A proposta global é contribuir com a aquisição de dados a distância através da Internet para auxiliar a projetos cooperativos em áreas que incluem mas não se limitam à educação a distância, médica, industrial e comercial. Como resultado final deste trabalho é disponibilizado um laboratório virtual que permite o acesso, o controle e a monitoração de experimentos em tempo real, em forma remota através da Internet, no endereço http://labvirtual.lme.usp.br/adriana.

A two-stage circumferential slot virtual impactor for bioaerosol concentrationIsaguirre, Refugio Rey, IV 02 June 2009 (has links)
Slot virtual impactors provide an efficient low power method of concentrating
aerosols. A circumferential slot virtual impactor (CSVI) is especially effective because it
has a continuous slot, and, therefore, has no losses associated with the ends of the slot. A
CSVI can also fit a longer slot in a smaller footprint than a linear slot virtual impactor.
A two-stage circumferential slot virtual impactor system has been designed and
tested. The CSVI units are similar in principle to that tested by Haglund and McFarland
(2004). Specific geometric changes to the nozzle region were introduced based on the
numerical models of Hari (2005). The greatest change to the nozzle geometry of
Haglund and McFarland (2004) is the introduction of a radius on the accelerator nozzle.
The radius on the accelerator section allows larger particles to make a smoother transition
into the focused jet. The smoother transition reduces the amount of wall losses for larger
particles.
The geometric changes show a significant increase in the particle size range that
the virtual impactor can effectively concentrate. The extension of the dynamic range of
the improved geometry was evident in the results for both the 100 L/min first stage and
the 10 L/min second stage CSVI units. The two stages were tested individually and in
series where the nozzle Reynolds number was 250 for both units.The results of the experiments on the two stage CSVI system showed a peak
collection efficiency of 90%. The first and second stage had a Stokes cutpoint of 1.2,
corresponding to a particle size of about 2.5

A virtual sculpture based morphable face modelRiewe, Jessica Lauren 17 September 2007 (has links)
Exemplar virtual three-dimensional sculptures collected from sixteen artists are used to develop a multidimensional
space to describe facial shape, which is then used as a mechanism for modeling new faces. This
is accomplished through identifying and varying derived principal components of the multi-dimensional
space. The relationships between these principal components and their effects on new faces are explored
through the creation of new virtual faces using a graphical user interface. These new virtual face sculptures are
then modified by facial feature, gender, and expression using a feature-based transformation interface based on
difference vectors. Finally, animations are created to illustrate the results of these approaches. Facial mesh
transformations based on principal components does not give direct predictable control for modifying specific
facial features. However, it does provide interesting design choices for artists, and general patterns of the data
variance were obtained. The feature-based transformations were successful in further modifying created faces.

This chapter attempts to address the need for more research on virtual team effectiveness and outlines an ecological theoretical framework that is applicable to virtual learning environments (VLE). Prior empirical studies on virtual team effectiveness used frameworks of traditional team effectiveness and mainly followed Hackman's normative model (input-process-output). We propose an ecological approach for virtual team effectiveness that accounts for team boundaries management, technology use, and external environment in VLE, properties which were previously either non-existent or contextual. The ecological framework suggests that three components, external environment, internal environment, and boundary management, reciprocally interact with effectiveness. The significance of the proposed framework is a holistic perspective that takes into account the complexity of the external and internal environment of the team. Furthermore, we address the needs for new pedagogical approaches in VLE.

This research constructs the virtual environment of a multi-floor building and provides some navigation assistance to enhance the navigation experience of users in the virtual environment. Based on the 2D architectural floor plans and photographs of Engineering and Information Technology Complex (EITC), a virtual environment of the multi-floor building is created using visualization modeling. Geometric modeling, texture mapping, and lighting procedures are employed to increase the visual effect. Two navigation assistance functions, walking through and optimal path navigation guiding tour, developed in the virtual environment helps users navigating in the virtual environment. Walking through allows users to navigate freely to obtain the spatial and geographical information of the virtual environment. Optimal path navigation guiding tour function leads users moving from a specified start position to the destination position along the optimal path. An improved shortest path algorithm is used for calculating the optimal path.
