[en] THERMAL ANALYSIS OF AXIAL FLOWS IN A TYPICAL SUBCHANNEL OF NUCLEAR FUEL ELEMENTS / [pt] ANÁLISE TÉRMICA DE ESCOAMENTOS AXIAIS EM SUBCANAL TÍPICO DE ELEMENTOS COMBUSTÍVEIS NUCLEARESJOSE SIMOES BETTHOUD 24 January 2012 (has links)
[en] Nuclear fuel elements generally consists of cladding rods containing the fuel pellets, with the coolant flowing axially through them. The thermal design of such elements only can be carried out if information about the heat transfer process to the coolant be avaiable, wich demmands a detailed description of the velocity field of flow. In the present work a zero equation model of turbulence and a wall law to energy transfer are applied to compute the velocity and temperature fields, and also the angular distribution of local wall sheat stress and nusselt number in the wall of a typical subchannel of nuclear fuel elements, for turbulents and fully developed flows, steady state, with incompressible, temperature independent fluids, flowing axially through triangular arrays of rods in differents aspect rations (P/D) and Reynods number (Re). The results are compared with experimental data of others authors, obtained from literature and show agreement.

[pt] ESTUDO EXPERIMENTAL DO ESCOAMENTO AXIAL ATRAVÉS DE REGIÃO ANULAR COM ROTAÇÃO DO CILINDRO INTERNO / [en] EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF AXIAL FLOW THROUGH AND ANNULAR REGION WITH INNER CYLINDER ROTATION08 May 2008 (has links)
instantâneos relevaram padrões complexos do escoamento.
[en] The flow between concentric cylinders with an inner
rotating cylinder with an imposed pressure-driven axial
flow was studied experimentally. The radius ratio was (n) =
0, 64 and the aspect ration was (r) = 265. Friction factor
and velocity fields were studied for four rotations of the
inner cylinder and for laminar, transitional, and turbulent
flow. Velocity fields were measure by Particle Image
Velocimetry (PIV). The results for friction factor showed
that the influence of the rotation is more apparent for
laminar and transitional flow, increasing with the rotation
of the inner cylinder. For these two flows,
the increasing was 100% of f/f0. For turbulent flow, the
increasing was gradualy decreasing to 10% of f/f0 for
Reaxial = 8458. Instantaneous velocity fields showed
complex flow patterns. The time average axial velocity
profiles showed a top hat like form with the increasing of
inner cylinder rotation and axial Reynolds numbers. For
turbulent flow, the influence of rotation in the velocity
profiles was small.

[en] PRESSURE DROP IN AXIAL FLOW THROUGH ANNULAR REGION WITH INNER CYLINDER ROTATION / [pt] QUEDA DE PRESSÃO EM ESCOAMENTO AXIAL ATRAVÉS DE REGIÃO ANULAR COM ROTAÇÃO DO CILINDRO INTERNODAVID IVAN MALDONADO TAVARA 03 May 2006 (has links)
A motivação
regimes laminar e turbulento. O trabalho investigou a
Reynolds rotacional. A
atrito
hidrodinâmicos. Testes preliminares para o caso do
[en] The present work investigated the pressure drop generated
by the flow through an
annular configuration with rotation of the inner cylinder.
The motivation for the
work comes from the several industrial application of the
configuration, such as
chemical reactors, filters and in drilling operations for
oil and gas wells. The
experimental study was conducted in a specially designed
test section forming an
annular space with radius ratio of 0.65 and a length
equivalent to 265 hydraulic
diameters, what guaranteed the hydrodynamic development of
the flow for the
laminar and turbulent regimes. The study investigated the
pressure drop along the
annular space as a function of the flow rate, given by the
Reynolds number, and of
the rotation of the inner cylinder, given by the
rotational Reynolds number. The
range of Reynolds number investigated was from 260 to
10,000, while the
rotational Reynolds number was varied from 60 to 1,000.
Two fluids were
employed in the testes; water and a mixture of water and
glycerol. The pressure
drop results were presented in the form of dimensionless
friction factors.
Preliminary tests for the case of no rotation of the inner
cylinder were compared
with results available in the literature, in order to
validate the test section and the
experimental procedure. The results displayed good
agreement with the literature
for both laminar and turbulent regimes.
For the low Reynolds number test cases, the results
obtained have shown
that the inner cylinder rotation induces a peak in the
distribution of the ratio of
friction factor to the friction factor without rotation.
The peak, of about 15%, is
found for Reynolds numbers of the order of 500.
