When Karel Čapek´s R.U.R. (the acronymic title is short for ??Rossum?s Universal Robots??) was first performed in 1921, it became a major international success and made Čapek an internationally known playwright. Although R.U.R. may appear slightly dated nearly hundred years later, the concerns expressed by the playwright are still interesting to modern audiences which explains why this play was chosen to be stage designed in the first place.

The doctoral thesis called "Five Plays of Karel Čapek:Primary Research" deals with drama works of one of the most outstanding and extraordinary personalities in the Czech theatre and culture. So why "primary research"? Because something like that is badly missing in his context - and therefore the interpratation of his work has been influenced by various interventions during its existence : above all the interrupted staging tradition, biased, and thus incomplete, perception by literary theorists, ignoring or simplifying by theatre theorists and even practitoners.

Práce obsahuje umělecký i historický přístup autora a divadelní svět na začátku dvacátého století, obzvláště období První republiky Československa, dále pak vyjádření mých uměleckých zásad, referencí a analýzu hry a postav skrze tento filtr.

In the countries of the former Yugoslavia , the works of Karel Čapek (1800-1938) are considered "complex but eternal" This is evidenced by the large number of articles about him and his work in newspapers and othe publications. Although better known today for his children´s books, even now, more than seventy years afte his death, Čapek continues to be read and enjoyed in general because of his artistry, his vision, and the originality of ideas. Čapek´s works became available very early, in 1921, in the countries of the former Yugoslavia .
