Προσαρμοστικός έλεγχος μεταβλητών συστημάτων / Adaptive control of varying systems

Νικολακόπουλος, Γεώργιος 25 June 2007 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is the study and analysis of varying systems, as also the development of algorithms in the field of: a) system identification, b) system prediction, and c) adaptive control that will be able to be robust to the variations of the systems under study. These variations in these systems are induced mainly from the insertion of time delays in the input and output of those systems. These delays can be constant, or varying, known or unknown, deterministic or stochastic. As a final result these time delays can alter the behavior and the performance of the system while driving it to instability. In this dissertation new algorithms are proposed for the modeling of these time delays in conjunction with the algorithms for the identification and output prediction of systems with time delays. Additionally new algorithms of adaptive control and stability analysis of the controlled systems are proposed.

Ραυτόπουλος, Βασίλειος 29 March 2011 (has links)
In this thesis the different types of intelligent control systems and the various techniques used in power system stabilizers are considered. The power system is a dynamic system and it is constantly being subjected to disturbances. It is important that these disturbances do not drive the system to unstable conditions. For this purpose, additional signals derived from speed deviation, excitation deviation and accelerating power are injected into voltage regulators. The device to provide these signals is referred as power system stabilizer. The use of power system stabilizers has become very common in operation of large electric power systems. The conventional PSS which uses lead-lag compensation, where gain settings designed for specific operating conditions, is giving poor performance under different loading conditions. Therefore, it is very difficult to design a stabilizer that could present good performance in all operating points of electric power systems. In an attempt to cover a wide range of operating conditions, intelligent control systems have been suggested as a possible solution to overcome this problem. Inittialy in this thesis, an introduction of power system control and the different types of stabilizers is briefly described. Afterwards, the system modeling and power system stabilizer model is presented. Finally, a systematic approach to fuzzy logic control design is proposed. The study of fuzzy logic power system stabilizer for stability enhancement of a single machine infinite bus system is presented. In order to accomplish the stability enhancement, speed deviation and acceleration of the rotor synchronous generator are taken as the inputs to the fuzzy logic controller. These variables take significant effects on damping the generator shaft mechanical oscillations. The stabilizing signals were computed using the fuzzy membership function depending on these variables. Simulink Block Design and Matlab is utilized in implementing the study. The performance of the system with fuzzy logic based power system stabilizer is compared with the system having conventional power system stabilizer and system without power system stabilizer.

Δρίτσας, Λεωνίδας 03 August 2009 (has links)
This research work is concerned with robustness issues arising in Νetworked Cοntrοlled Systems - ("ΝCS"), where the main sources of uncertainty are the time-varying network-induced delays. In this framework the presented results concern robust stability analysis and synthesis of robust controllers. The NCS studied consist of a Linear Time Invariant continuous time plant and a discrete time controller. This configuration includes a time driven (periodic) sampler (taking samples from the sensors with constant sampling period h) and an event–driven controller which transmits the control command via the network to the event–driven actuator. Two modeling approaches for Networked Controlled Systems (NCS) with uncertainly varying bounded transmission delays and static discrete--time control laws are presented. Different models are offered for each case, all linked to the objective of designing robust discrete-time controllers. It is analytically shown how the careful mixing of asynchronous (event--driven) and synchronized (clocked) signals can lead to discrete time uncertain (possibly switched) systems, where results form robust control analysis and synthesis can be applied. After showing the implications of these modelling results for control synthesis purposes, sufficient conditions for the robust stability are given for each approach and a comparison of the conservatism of results is discussed The first group of robust stability results (one for each of the two discrete-time NCS models) is based on a singular value formulation, which although conservative, is extremely simple and has low computational cost The second one is derived and expressed via Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) and yields less conservative results at the expense of higher computational cost. Regarding the synthesis of Robust controllers, the following four methodologies were developed: 1. Synthesis of Robust Static State feedback 2. Synthesis of Robust Static State feedback via the “Guaranteed Cost Formulation” which combines stability and performance design objectives 3. Synthesis of Constrained Robust feedback controller (with a Piecewise Affine Structure) which respects the constraints on the control effort and the state (or output). 4. The previous result (Constrained Robust feedback controller) is then generalized for set-point tracking and for various types of network-induced delays (small, large and switching delays)

Ψυλλάκης, Χαράλαμπος 20 February 2009 (has links)
- / In this thesis new advanced nonlinear control methods that solve the power system stabilization problem in a more efficient and integrated manner are considered. The proposed methods mainly concern with the primary level control of a power system that plays a central role in maintaining transient stability and obtaining a desired system performance. To this end, several new nonlinear control schemes mainly applicable on power system stabilizers (PSS) have been designed and extensively analyzed. For a theoretical assessment of the system operation the concepts of passivity and passivity margin are analyzed while the concept of Ω--passivity is introduced. Using partial feedback linearization and backstepping design techniques on suitable models of the system under consideration (power system) the Ω--passivity property of the system is proved. This property is further improved through the control in the closed-loop design. To this end, several control schemes are developed and a series of different theoretical problems have been solved on using simple output feedback and advanced nonlinear control methods like sliding mode control, adaptive control or a combination of them. A significant breakthrough has been achieved with the use of fuzzy techniques in these schemes yielding designs with combined advantages of both fuzzy and adaptive control methods. A detailed stability analysis, based on Lyapunov functions, has been used to prove that the proposed controllers guarantee either uniform ultimate boundedness or asymptotic stability for the closed-loop system. The proposed schemes are examined assuming that the system operates under parameter uncertainties as well as external disturbances. The theoretical analysis indicates that regulating some design parameters of the proposed controllers one can significantly improve the robustness and the disturbance attenuation capability of the system. Extensive simulations on a two machines infinite bus test system have been carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes as these are applied on the PSS of each machine. Hard cases of three phase faults or significant power demand changes have been simulated. The simulation results show that the proposed nonlinear controllers enhance the damping of the electromechanical oscillations with respect to classical AVR/PSS and improve their robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance attenuation capability. Using similar techniques, speed governor controls (SGC) are also designed. An adaptive control scheme is proposed that ensures asymptotic stabilization of the closed-loop system as proved by standard Lyapunov techniques. Simulations are carried out for the one generator system connected to infinite bus. The simulation results confirm a significant improvement in the electromechanical oscillations damping compared to conventional speed governor controls. An important contribution of the thesis involves the coordination and management of the controls at the primary level. The design is carried out so that each control is not competing with the action of the other and it is cooperating to complement the action of the other. In this frame, first, the coordinated operation of the designed nonlinear power system stabilizers with the classical AVR/PSS is proposed. Particularly, the sequential operation of these controllers is considered in the following way: immediately after a fault, only the nonlinear controller operates but when the fault attenuates the classical AVR/PSS takes over. In this way, significant transient enhancement and voltage regulation after the large transients can be achieved. To implement this kind of operation a soft-switching logic from the one controller to the other is proposed by using a fuzzy logic mechanism to determine which controller will act each time period. In this way, it is avoided a discontinuous switching that can create a number of problems and may even lead to instabilities. The analysis and the simulation results confirm the validity of this approach since it is shown that the coordinated control scheme has an almost identical transient performance with the nonlinear controllers ensuring simultaneously the voltage regulation at the desired set-point. The same approach is used for the coordinated operation of FACTS with the excitation controllers. To this end, a static var compensator (SVC) controller is developed which, during a fault, acts to improve the transient stability. During the transient period, the SVC uses as inputs not the voltage at the connecting point but suitable signals from neighbor stations in order to contribute to the electromechanical oscillations damping; in the sequel, it returns to its normal operation maintaining the voltage level at the connecting point at a specified value. A soft switching scheme is also applied while signal transmission delays are taken into the account. The simulation results of a three phase short-circuit in a system with a single machine connected to infinite bus through a bus that has a SVC attached, indicate that this coordinated control scheme improves the transient stability even more (in comparison to the previous coordinated scheme). Finally, coordinated control logic is used for the design of both the speed governor control and the PSS. This is needed when the operation of the PSS cannot be considered completely independent and decoupled from the speed governor dynamics (in the case of fast valve operation). In this combined system a parallel design of both the SGC and the PSS ensures the uniform ultimate boundedness of the complete closed-loop system. Moreover, the use of continuous switching through fuzzy logic, as mentioned before, between these controllers and the classical AVR/PSS (for the excitation system) and a PID control (for the SGC) is proposed. The simulation results on the two machines infinite bus system clearly confirm the superiority of the coordinated control scheme with respect to the classical AVR/PSS excitation controllers and PID speed governor controllers. As a conclusion, new combined advanced nonlinear control schemes are analyzed and proposed for power systems. From the stability analysis and the simulation results it is clearly confirmed that the application of these nonlinear controls can be effectively improve the transient behavior as well as the robustness and disturbance attenuation of a power system. It is also proved that, without extreme cost, coordinated control schemes implemented through the proposed soft-switching techniques further enhance the transient and dynamic performance of the system.

The term Wireless Networked Systems is used to describe the distributed systems, whose components are interconnected over wireless networks. Referring to wireless networking, the emphasis is given at the self-organized Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks. The effort made is focused on the reconfiguration of the Quality of Service of the underlying network. From such a perspective, the mechanisms responsible for improving the Quality of Service differentiate from the design of novel, specialized communication protocols. More specifically, with respect to the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model (OSI-RM), the optimization issues of the Wireless Networked Systems’ operation are examined at the Application and Physical Layer. At the Application Layer, problems related to the guarantee of the stability margins for Wireless Networked Controlled Systems are studied. More precisely, the assurance of the desired performance for the closed-loop controlled system is based on switching control techniques. The optimization decision variables are determined by the network’s Quality of Service parameters. At the Physical Layer the objective is twofold: (a) to establish the physical connectivity among the members of the Wireless Networked System and (b) to optimize of the wireless link’s quality. Based on the combination of the spatial characteristics of the Wireless Networked Systems with large-scale radio propagation models, the centralized and distributed mechanisms, synthesized for the optimization of the network’s Quality of Service at the Physical Layer, exploit effectively concepts adopted by the Computational Geometry. Finally, properly developed experimental testbeds and network simulation scenaria are utilized to examine the efficiency of the synthesized mechanisms for the control and optimization of the operation of Wireless Networked Systems at the Application and Physical Layer.

Given the hyper-redundant features of this robotic tool, the solution to the inverse kinematics problem is quite complicated. Henceforth, the main objective of this thesis is the numerical solution of the joints' positions using image processing techniques. The proposed control law utilizes this information for trajectory tracking purposes of the tool's end-effector.

Αθανασόπουλος, Νικόλαος 05 January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation considers the problem of stability analysis and control of dynamical systems under constraints in the input and/or state vector. The theoretical tools used arise from Lyapunov stability theory, comparison systems theory and set theoretic methods and lead to the determination of stability conditions and development of systematic methods that solve the control problem of constrained systems of particular type. In specific, for linear discrete or continuous time systems, a novel method that leads to the solution of the initial condition set stabilization problem as well as the maximal controlled invariant set computation problem is presented. These results have been extended for the case of linear systems with polytopic uncertainty. Also, the category of auto regressive moving average (ARMA) models is investigated. First, conditions that guarantee stability for a preassigned initial conditions set for constrained ARMA models are established. These results are applied to the category of networked control systems (NCS), were a single linear state feedback control law is computed for the whole range of the input delay. Finally, the category of bilinear discrete-time or continuous-time systems is investigated. Initially, sufficient conditions which guarantee existence of polyhedral Lyapunov functions are presented. The problem studied here is the stabilization of an initial condition set in the presence of input and state constraints. The solution proposed is suboptimal and leads to the determination of a linear state feedback control law. The choice of Lyapunov functions leads to the determination of a polyhedral approximation of the domain of attraction as well as polyhedral positively invariant sets. The main benefits of choosing this type of functions is the nonconservative estimation of the domain of attraction and the establishment of stability conditions that lead to systematic control design methods through the solution of linear programming problems.
