''Jag lever i ett förhållande där min kvinna slår mig'' : en kvalitativ studie om kvinnors våld mot män i nära relationer / ’’I live in a relationship where my wife beats me’’ : a qualitative study of women’s violence against men in intimate relationshipsVeselinovic, Jelena January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of women's violence against men in intimate relationships, get an idea of what forms of expression that this type of violence has and to highlight the men's experiences of violence. There is little scientific research in the field in Sweden. Crime Prevention Council has determined that eight percent of all complaints involving domestic violence in 2010, reported by men over 18 years. You can only speculate on how large number of unreported cases is among abused men. The international studies highlight that the abused men feel ashamed of having been subjected to violence by a female partner. I have been based this essay on two theoretical premises, Per Isdal theory of "violence perspective" and Elaine Bergqvist's definition of the suppression technique. The study was conducted through a qualitative content analysis. This type of method used to interpret the various texts, and to this study, three autobiographies was analyzed. The results from the survey highlights that all men have been subjected to extensive financial, material, latent and psychological violence. Two men have been subjected to regular physical violence and one of the men has been the victim of sexual violence. The discussion highlighted that violence against men in intimate relationships is undetectable and taboo and that the phenomenon must be recognized and made more visible. The conclusion of this study was that the abused men feel ashamed to seek help but that is also exists lack of adequate help and support to give to men which has been abused.

Mäns rätt till behandling & Eldsjälars betydelse : En uppsats om behandling för män som utövar våld / Men’s right to treatment & the significance of a go getter. : A study in men’s violence in intimate relationships.Karlsson, Raimond, Lindqvist, Marina January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine certain aspects of work with men who use violence in intimate relationships. In a Government bill in late 90s the Government presented its action plan on what is expected to be done in each municipality, but investigations show that the work is stationary. 46 percent of the men, who are in treatment, choose to cancel it. We wanted to find out how society will meet up with men who use violence in their intimate relationship and how to go about in the meeting. Those who lead us to the answers in this qualitative method are three social workers and a therapist who has the task of helping these men. The study is based on interviews from three municipalities in southern Sweden, the municipalities made as in between 30-60 000 residents and businesses are startups; theoldest has been in operation for five years. The results showed that they had chosen to put these activities under the sections of the Social Services but is counted as a separate project, as the driving force may apply for funding via the County Council. A strong commitment shines through these projects and go- getter momentum is necessary. The interviewees express great concern that the men are those who fall away unless they receive more money next year. The meetings with these clients are like with the other clients, at any time, you treat them with respect and curiosity for the person you have in front of you. The main work of social welfare officers do is to motivate them to come to the therapist. The therapist is the one late to capture the man and persuade him to remain in treatment, through the verse and effluents and recognition.

Explore the prevention and protection of domestic violence in Kaohsiung from the PAM architectureLin, Ya-Lin 02 September 2009 (has links)
Domestic violence is one of the most important issues about the
public affairs. The incidents of domestic violence not only cause damage
to the individual¡¦s mind, but depress the country¡¦s competition ability.
The negative side effects also were hard to evaluate. Even the main spirit
of the prevention of the domestic violence reveals as ¡§protection the right
of victims and prevention of the behavior of domestic violence¡¨. This
slogan gives its positive age meaning and attached with infinite wish of
public. By the inspection and reflection of the increasing cases with days,
it would corrode the individuals and the public eventually, then cause the
malignant effects on the Social development of basic stock and flow
conditions.
Though the government endeavors to issue many protection and prevention
system, the results were still not satisfied by the reason of the southern social
conditions and the uneven levels population structure. The outcome is the breaks
and leakages of policy connection. Based on the variety between the professional
fields and the pertinent departments, the author try to integrate and observe the
complex phenomena with various aspects. There are the reason-results relationships
of multiple elements to each other. This study describes the PAM and SDM
theoretical structure frame and conclude positively with the V.C.S methodology.,As
a methodology the conclusions of the output, with an extension of a more positive
point of view.
The study explore with qualitative interview as major method. Then
conclude the integrated results from the practical interviews with the
networks practitioners.
The prevention and protection of domestics violence is an extremely huge
reconstruction engineer to the social. The achievement of value of justice is the
critical catalyst to ignite the progress of the order of works. Pluralistic society in the
face of the complex of environmental factors¡ACut from the PAM to do analysis of
the problem can be drawn from a more complete picture.
Sexual cognitive and sex equity are crucial value and the prevention and
protection of domestic violence is also the most vital public value of the
government. The immature of practitioners¡¦ concepts is the tremendous challenge.
It also has the influence on the establishment of professional knowledge.
IV
The prevention and protection of domestics violence is an system problem
among the social structure. The key is the basement of social condition during the
development of Kaohsiung City's social conditions. Though the system of the
professional prevention and protection is complete, the subjective cognitive of the
party is most restricted with the traditional concepts. It contributes negative driving
force.
The construction of the order is to achieve the justice of the case. The
inter-government prevention and protection system is absolutely important to the
prevention of violence. But its pertinent policies, resources and strategies involved
is deficient.
The networks have no strength like the action of law and the inspection order
across the vertical and horizontal. The authority should plan the integrated executing
of the policies, the distribution of resources, personals, inspection managements, the
evaluation and communication.
The media inspection only focuses on the blockbuster report. The justice of
disadvantaged majority of the society is damaged and need the support of the
construct from the inspection system participated by the democracy society in the
civic participation.

Att möta våldsutsatta kvinnor : En litteraturstudie. / To encounter abused women`s : A reviewHassel, Anna, Karlsson, Annelie, Jonasson, Lundberg January 2009 (has links)
Resultatet talar för att undervisning om bemötande av våldsutsatta kvinnor bör ingå i utbildning för all vårdpersonal.</p> / <p>Men's threats and violence against women is a serious social problem. The aim of the study was to, based on current research, find and highlight factors of importance in the meeting between health professionals and the vulnerable woman. Method that was used was a literature review. Scientific articles sought in the databases Cinahl, Medline, High Wire Press, and psych INFO. The result consists of 12 scientific articles published between the years of 1996-2007. The analysis of the material resulted in a number of areas. These areas are the attitudes and prejudices in the health care meeting, treatment, environmental, education and screening programs, importance, economic importance, cooperation between different professions, knowledge and fear. It appeared in the result that for everyone to feel safe in the meeting, more professional training of staff members was to be desirable. By highlighting these areas the work in health care can begin to decrease the negative factors and support the positive ones. The results suggest that education concerning the response to women exposed to domestic violence should be included in all training of health professionals.</p>

Creating healing spaces, the process of designing holistically a battered women shelter [electronic resource] / by Lilian Menéndez.Menéndez, Lilian. January 2001 (has links)
Original thesis submitted in HTML and can be accessed at http://www.lib.usf.edu/ETD-db/theses/available/etd-07252001-113744/unrestricted/default.htm / Title from PDF of title page. / Document formatted into pages; contains 103 pages. / Thesis (M. Arch)--University of South Florida, 2001. / Includes bibliographical references. / Text (Electronic thesis) in PDF format. / ABSTRACT: My interest in the environment has led me to study the effects of space on people, both natural and man-made. This project explores how architects and designers can design spaces conducive to the healing process. The emphasis of this thesis is on my design methodology, with the hope that this project will help other designers in their struggle to create spaces that heal the body, soul and spirit. To develop this project, I chose a shelter for battered women as the building type. This shelter is theoretically located in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Its main goal is to create an environment in which battered women can recuperate physically, emotionally and spiritually. In order to accomplish this, I first studied my personal responses to a variety of built, as well as, natural spaces. I used two types of case studies, one looking at spaces and the other looking at the building type. / ABSTRACT: Besides utilizing traditional building analysis, I also used literature to study space, since it allows me to study human's reaction to space. These helped to shed light on why or why not certain spaces fulfill the building's purpose. Later, through a series of art workshops with women at a local shelter, I was able to better understand the user. These workshops culminated in a collaborative art installation in which their reality and mine were combined. In addition, I researched other fields that are also trying to understand why we respond to space the way we do. Some of these fields are environmental psychology, sociology, behavioral studies, and art. Their findings led me to design flexible spaces that allow each woman to shape their own space, and spaces that appeal to all six senses. Following this exploration, I developed a program to meet the user's requirements. This program described a prototypical facility that embodies ideal conditions. / ABSTRACT: I then explored this program and its spatial requirements through physical models. A series of models interacting with the site gave birth to three design concepts. From these various schemes, a final design was selected and brought to the design development phase. / System requirements: World Wide Web browser and PDF reader. / Mode of access: World Wide Web.

Conceptions about domestic violence – who are the victim, who are the perpetrator? The purpose of this study was to investigate the conceptions social worker, in various units, have of domestic violence, and how their capabilities can be affected by these beliefs. The purpose is answered by two focus group interviews with social workers in Social services. The result showed that men most often associated with the use of violence and women's vulnerability to violence. Men's violence is perceived more severe than women's violence and violence in same-sex intimate relationships, which were connected to gender stereotypes. Help for abused women according to the social workers expression is that she should leave the man, and as a social worker justify that action. It also emerged that aggressors do not want help and to motivate aggressors were not considered as important as to justify female victims. An important conclusion of the study was that the conceptions social worker has are important for the understanding of who are the victims and perpetrators, and the work with perpetrators of violence should emphasize and develops to improve.

Violence and abuse in intimate dating relationships : a study of young people's attitudes, perceptions and experiencesMacnab, Morven January 2010 (has links)
Since the issue of dating violence emerged onto the research agenda in the 1980s, researchers have focused upon measuring the prevalence of physical violence occurring in young people’s intimate relationships, using quantitative methods. Surveys, which have limited young people’s reporting to stating whether or not they have perpetrated or sustained any of a fixed range of predetermined violent acts, have formed the dominant methodological approach. In the main, dating violence studies have focused on researching university students in the United States of America, and young people not attending American universities are an under-researched population in the dating violence literature. The dearth of qualitative approaches to past studies of dating violence has meant that young people’s own accounts of their experiences, attitudes and perceptions of dating violence and abuse have been afforded minimal focus. Feminist theoretical approaches to dating violence research are now emerging, contributing a valuable gendered analysis of the issues. Through qualitative interviews with forty five young people aged 16-21 (23 men and 22 women), recruited primarily from a Further Education college and an organisation working with young people not in education, employment or training, this thesis explores young people’s attitudes, perceptions and experiences of violence and abuse in intimate dating relationships, through a feminist theoretical lens. The study is couched in a rich body of feminist empirical and theoretical literature, which conceptualises intimate partner violence as primarily an issue of men’s violence against women, perpetrated with the rationale of maintaining power and control. The impact that popular theoretical discourses of gender equality and female empowerment may have upon young people’s capacity to acknowledge ongoing gender inequalities is also considered in this thesis. The findings of the current research indicate that young people’s dating relationships (and experiences of heterosexuality in general) reflect ongoing gender inequalities which are influenced to a great extent by patriarchal modes of power and control. The accounts of young men and women in this study established dating relationships as sites of imbalanced gender power, with many modes of men’s power control, surveillance and monitoring of their girlfriends described as ‘normal’ and acceptable. There was a widespread perception among the participants that dating violence is an issue of ‘mutual combat’ where women are just as likely as men to be perpetrators, even though their experiences of dating violence largely reflected the pattern of female victims and male perpetrators. In regard to violence against women by men, many of the participants perceived men’s violence to be understandable in the face of women’s provocation, particularly in cases where women are perceived to be ‘cheating’. For a significant minority of young people, intimate relationships are sites of violence and abuse, with women disproportionately the victims. The findings from this study indicate a lack of awareness of the avenues of support that can be accessed by young people experiencing dating violence and abuse. The findings also highlight a requirement for direct educative strategies to challenge some young people’s support for men’s violence against women.

Men’s experience of abuse in intimate partnerships : impact and implicationsGonzalez, Jarod Joshua 26 July 2011 (has links)
Men who experience abuse in their relationships can undergo emotional hardships, suffer injuries, and can experience various psychological problems. Cultural gender norms create barriers in receiving the appropriate help men need. Large population based studies show that men do in fact experience incidents of physical and emotional abuse yet men are often overlooked in the domestic violence literature. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an important societal problem that needs to be evaluated and addressed for both genders, even if women are the primary victims of IPV. This report will present research regarding the prevalence of female-perpetrated abuse and discuss implications within the literature. The impact and consequences IPV has on men will be reviewed as well as barriers men face in getting help. New questions will be posed that need addressing and practical implications will be provided for researchers and mental health practitioners. / text
