I den här uppsatsen kommer jag att utgå från min överlevnadsstrategi, mitt motstånd mot den vita kubens och den västerländska konstens hierarkier och normer. För att göra detta kommer jag att använda mig av min kandidatutställning som utgångspunkt. Soloutställningen som jag valde att förvandla till en kollektiv utställning. Med den som exempel kommer jag att försöka svara på frågor som dykt upp under min tid på Konstfack. Vad är det som gör att vissa kroppar med en viss erfarenhet lämnas utanför den etablerade konstens rum? Vad är det för mekanismer som fungerar som “gatekeepers”? En hypotes är att föreställningen om “kvalitet” bär ett stort ansvar. Vad finns det för strategier för att utmana dessa normer som stänger dörrar isåfall? Och hur mottas det när vi väl intar dessa rum?

In 1966 Sweden ratified the international Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination therefore they have undertaken a number of obligations. To this day, however, they have not fully fulfilled those obligations. According to numerous media reports and scientific research, Sweden is still troubled by institutional discrimination and institutional racism. This institutional discrimination and institutional racism develop conditions in which injustice and inequality can thrive. There is nevertheless not much research done on how this can be understood in relation to different forms of oppression and whiteness in Sweden. The purpose and ambition of this study is thus to unravel the institutional discrimination and racism in Sweden today, conclude how it can differ depending on what form of oppression that is manifested, and how the whiteness norms affect the institutional structures. To be able to conclude how oppression and whiteness is manifested today the study applies a descriptive method and determines that the institutional discrimination and institutional racism is still very present. The whiteness and the different forms of oppression continue to operate implicitly and shape the framework that the Swedish society lives within, upholding the conditions in which injustice and inequality can thrive.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how professionals in the forestry industry describe diversity- and gender equality efforts at their company. The material in the study is created from interviews and analyzed through an application of discourse theory. Based on expressed discourses, the focus is on which identities are enabled and also which identities that are excluded. The analysis shows how different cultural depictions in the shape of discourses contribute to perception about who the forest worker is.  The Swedish forest industry has for a long time been seen as infused with masculine norms since it has been dominated by men for a very long time. Even though more women have entered the forest industry recently, old stereotypes still persist. The participants express that it is a very white working environment which I delve into in this study. One of the first things I noticed was the prevailing whiteness norm among the employees at the company I studied, this led to an interest in investigating how this can be understood in terms of the employees´ preconceptions about the forest worker.

This study explores the ways a Swedish state agency works with equality during the making oftheir AI-chatbots. The study explores an AI-team’s work in dealing with questions of equality,with equality through own experiences and values, the study has also placed its central themesaround equality work and language. The study does this with help of what Sara Ahmed callsinstitutionalized work. The study concludes that what Edmund Husserl calls the natural attitudeto working with equality constitutes a risk of leaving out perspectives and experiences. Workingwith Swedish as the state language, the study discusses how the use of language might representwhiteness and what effects this use of language may have on the interaction with their chatbot.The study has based its material around interviews made with six members of the state agenciesAI-team as well as programmed words and sentences in the chatbot. / <p>Ingen anmärkning</p> / Nej

Utgångspunkten för denna studie är hur normativa beskrivningar av konsthistoria i ett bildläromedel riskerar att reproducera historiska och nutida föreställningar om skillnader mellan ”vi” och ”de andra”. Syftet med studien är att undersöka vilka diskurser om vithet och eurocentrism i bildämnet som synliggörs i läromedel samt att utmana hegemoniska diskurser om vithet och eurocentrism. Som underliggande teoretiskt och metodologiskt ramverk för studien ligger poststrukturalism som betonar språkets meningsskapande funktioner. Materialet som bearbetats och analyserats genom diskursanalys och gestaltande metoder är ett urval av texter och bilder från ett kapitel om konsthistoria i ett förlagsproducerat bildläromedel som riktar sig mot årskurs 7-9. Resultatet av analysen visar att läromedlet reproducerar en eurocentrisk diskurs genom makttekniker som isärhållning. Europeisk konsthistoria upphöjs och separeras från resten av världen genom den övergripande strukturen men framför allt genom språkhandlingar i både text och bild som framställer övriga världen som ”den andre”. Slutsatsen är att läromedlet i sin nuvarande form kan ses som problematiskt ur ett inkluderande och antirasistiskt perspektiv. Lärare kan dock granska läromedel kritiskt och använda pedagogiska strategier som att juxtapositionera historiska bilder från olika delar av världen för att utforska och synliggöra visuella och kulturella likheter snarare än skillnader. På så sätt kan lärare och elever skapa sprickor och läckage i diskursen vilket i sin tur kan skapa förutsättningar för delaktighet och inkludering i bildundervisningen.

Denna uppsats undersöker vithet i tre ungdomsromaner. Analysen belyser hur vita normer skapar en uppdelning mellan ”vi” och ”dem” i romanerna vilket resulterar i hinder för stöd till ensamkommande flyktingbarn och potentiellt leder till självmord i dessa romaner. Uppsatsen avkodar även symboler och belyser representationen av vita och icke-vita karaktärer. Vidare analyseras hur dessa grupper klassificeras som ”vi” och ”andra” inom de valda romanerna. Analysen av romanerna visar hur institutioner spelar en roll i att upprätthålla vita normer och hur de vidmakthåller och förstärker dem. Uppsatsen visar hur invandrares närvaro används som en berättarteknik. Det innebär att invandrares närvaro användas för att berika berättelsen och utforska olika teman och idéer.

The study’s purpose has been to attract attention and facilitate discussion regarding norms that are present in text books in the social science for upper primary school. The theoretical premiss has been a normcritical perspective based on queer theory, social constructionism and intersectionality. The study’s conclusion is based on content analysis (text and image) of four text books. The method that was chosen were qualitative analysis with quantitative ingredients. This study was limited to family constellations, ability to function, gender/non-binary gender persons and white/non white persons.   In summary, the text books shows several normcritical perspectives. The results differ from earlier studies since one out of four study material is female dominant. The most common family constellation that appeared was the nuclear family. All study materials was dominated by white persons, additionally there were persons with disabilities: visual impairment (glasses). Other disabilities were absent. / Studiens syfte har varit att väcka uppmärksamhet och skapa diskussion kring vilka normer som förekommer i läroböcker i samhällskunskap för årskurs 4-6. Teoretiska utgångspunkter har varit normkritiskt perspektiv utifrån queerteori, socialkonstruktivism och intersektionalitet. Studiens resultat är baserat på text- och bildanalys av fyra läroböcker. Metoden som valdes var kvalitativ analys med kvanitativa inslag. Denna studie var avgränsad mot familjekonstellationer, funktionsförmåga, genus/könsöverskridande identitet och vithet/icke vithet.   Sammanfattningsvis har läroböckerna flera normkritiska perspektiv. Resultatet skiljer sig från tidigare forskning i och med att en av fyra läroböcker var kvinnodominerade. Den vanligaste formen av familjekonstellationer var kärnfamiljen. Samtliga läroböcker domineras av vita personer, dessutom finns presentationers av personer med funktionsnedsättning: synfel (glasögon). Andra funktionsnedsättningar lyste med sin frånvaro.

The aim of this study is to analyze whiteness in textbooks for civics. The study is executed through a text analysis of two textbooks in civics for upper primary school in Sweden. In this approach a postcolonial theoretical framework is used which is thoroughly presented, after which resulted in two analytical models. One model was used to identify binary dichotomies, while the other consisted of five questions that aimed to highlight patterns regarding whiteness in the textbooks. One of the most important contributions of the postcolonial theory was the visualization of the links between historical colonialism and contemporary societal problems such as various forms of racism and discrimination. On these grounds, the theory was chosen. The result showed a partly problematic presentation in the textbooks.

This study is about the group of transnational adoptees, which means adoptions that includes a transfer of children to families who racially and culturally different from them. The Swedish research regarding to this group of adoptees is relatively limited. Especially in relation to the phenomenon like race, whiteness and racism. There is a need for more knowledge about what it means to be Swedish and non-white, something that the group adoptees has experience of.                      The purpose of this study is to examine if, and in that case how, it is possible to discern a pattern of Swedishness boundaries using the adoptees experience, and to find out how notions of race interacts with these experiences. The study is based on a qualitative approach and the empirical material consists of interviews with four adoptees. To understand my empirical data I have chosen to work with several different theoretical perspectives to illustrate the phenomenon as can be seen as border guards of Swedishness concerning to the adoptees. These phenomenon’s are: race and whiteness, and racialization and (everyday) racism. I am also inspired by the American research field of critical race and whiteness studies, but from a Swedish context.                       The results show that the main limit for Swedishness goes at the adoptees non-white bodies. It is also by their non-white bodies as they get their belonging in Sweden questioned and can be considered as almost Swedes. It is also their non-Swedish appearance that allows them to be exposed to racialization and racism in everyday life. Thus, it is possible to argue, on the basis of the adoptees stories, that race as construction exists and that we must speak of it to be able to understand how it, as adopted (Swedish), is to live in a non-white body in Sweden today.
