”En medvetenhet som vi inte hade tidigare” : Hur socialtjänsten arbetar med sönerna i en familj vid misstanke om hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck / “An awareness that we didn’t have before” : How the social services work with the sons in a family in suspicion of honor-related violence and oppression

Abasova, Berivan, Lundström, Mia January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how the social services work with the situation of home-based sons in a family where there is suspicion of honor-related violence and oppression. Five social secretaries in three municipalities who worked on investigative units were interviewed. The theoretical points of the study were intersectionality and system theory. The results show that the social secretaries had varied levels of knowledge regarding the sons' situation in honor related cases. None of the social secretaries had worked on "specific boy cases" and boys were only investigated in cases concerning girls. Challenges for the social secretaries aimed at the difficulty of getting girls to stay in their placements. None of the municipalities had specific interventions directed at the sons. There were general interventions offered through the municipalities' outpatient care. In all municipalities, the interventions were mainly directed towards the protection of the girls or to offer parents family treatment.

The orchestral anthems of Maurice Greene: a selected edition

Patten, Ryan L. 03 March 2022 (has links)
Maurice Greene (1696–1755) was the preeminent native British composer of his generation. He is the only person in history to have simultaneously held all of the most prestigious musical appointments in Britain, and in these roles he composed large-scale, multi-movement sacred anthems for choir, soloists, and orchestra. These were most regularly performed during services at the Chapel Royal and at the Sons of the Clergy Festival at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Most of his works for this medium remain unpublished and unedited, and exist only in their original manuscript sources. This dissertation presents five of the most significant of these in a textually sound critical edition: I will magnifie thee, O God, my King (Greene’s first orchestral anthem, 1719); Blessed are all they that fear the Lord (the anthem composed but not performed for the wedding of the Princess Royal in 1733); O God, thou hast cast us out (composed for the Fast Day on December 18, 1745 in response to the Jacobite Uprising); and two settings of Te Deum (composed in 1729 and 1750 respectively). Three of these works appear here in print for the first time. The edition includes a chronology of the composer’s life, a discussion of performance practice, and commentaries for each work, which provide contextual information on the occasion for which the work was composed, the compositional process, and the probable performing forces. Each work is accompanied by a Critical Commentary, which includes bibliographic information on the sources, the texts of the anthems and their sources, and an exhaustive critical apparatus, which lists variants, errors, and other information present in the sources but not included in the edited scores. / 2024-03-02T00:00:00Z

Modelling and transformation of sound textures and environmental sounds / Transformation et synthèse de textures sonores et sons environnementaux

Liao, Wei-Hsiang 15 July 2015 (has links)
The processing of environmental sounds has become an important topic in various areas. Environmental sounds are mostly constituted of a kind of sounds called sound textures. Sound textures are usually non-sinusoidal, noisy and stochastic. Several researches have stated that human recognizes sound textures with statistics that characterizing the envelopes of auditory critical bands. Existing synthesis algorithms can impose some statistical properties to a certain extent, but most of them are computational intensive. We propose a new analysis-synthesis framework that contains a statistical description that consists of perceptually important statistics and an efficient mechanism to adapt statistics in the time-frequency domain. The quality of resynthesised sound is at least as good as state-of-the-art but more efficient in terms of computation time. The statistic description is based on the STFT. If certain conditions are met, it can also adapt to other filter bank based time-frequency representations (TFR). The adaptation of statistics is achieved by using the connection between the statistics on TFR and the spectra of time-frequency domain coefficients. It is possible to adapt only a part of cross-correlation functions. This allows the synthesis process to focus on important statistics and ignore the irrelevant parts, which provides extra flexibility. The proposed algorithm has several perspectives. It could possibly be used to generate unseen sound textures from artificially created statistical descriptions. It could also serve as a basis for transformations like stretching or morphing. One could also expect to use the model to explore semantic control of sound textures.

When Again Comes Back to You

Carver, Robert Benjamin 24 January 2013 (has links)
This is a creative work in the genre of non-fiction writing, in the sub-genre of memoir. When Again Comes Back to You is a memoir that traces the effects of abuse as it works upon the life of a young girl who grows in the shadow of an abusive family. As the girl grows, and becomes a mother herself, the story explores how the effects of abuse can extend into the next generation.

Facilitating communication about death between mothers and adolescent sons using fictional children's literature

Leavy, Deon G. 03 November 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Most children will experience the death of a loved one in their lifetime and will need to develop healthy grieving patterns. Communication between parents and children is a key ingredient in facilitating this development. Current opinions about bibliotherapy, using a book to assist in healing, suggest that books provide understanding about grief and death and open channels of communication. Although the use of bibliotherapy is gaining popularity, little research exists about its efficacy. Utilizing the book The Bridge to Terabithia, this study evaluated the facilitation of communication about death between 19 dyads of mother and adolescent sons. Their answers and comments illustrate the effectiveness of bibliotherapy in opening channels of communication about death. The results of this study support the efficacy of bibliotherapy.

The Meaning of Religious Belief, Practice, and Community for Latter-Day Saint Fathers of Children With Special Needs

Marks, Loren Dean 01 January 1999 (has links) (PDF)
While the tragedy of American fatherlessness has evoked a growing body of research, religious beliefs, practices, and communities have not been a significant part of the scholarly discussion. This article discusses possible reasons for this and reviews the religion and family literature with a focus on fathers. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 19 Latter-day Saint (LDS) fathers of children with special needs and analyzed to examine the meaning of religious experience for these fathers and their families. Analysis indicated three dimensions of religious experience: spiritual belief, religious practice, and faith community. The spiritual belief in an eternal perspective, including the potential for family relationships to endure eternally, was identified by the researcher as central. Religious practice was found to be most meaningful when both sacred and relational. Faith community was found to be most beneficial when the congregation [ward] mentioned helped the fathers meet their families' needs. Challenges related to the three dimensions of religious experience are also reported. Religious experience is discussed as a support for responsible fathering, and a conceptual model of religious experience and faithful fathering is presented.

Paternal child-feeding attitudes in relationship to the obese or lean status of their elementary school age son

Frigge, Caren 12 March 2013 (has links)
The present study assessed the relationship between the paternal use of food in a contingency manner and the physical status of the respective son. The prevalence of childhood obesity has been documented to be significant in this country (Mayer, 1968; Collipp, 1975; Forbes, 1975; Hafen, 1981). The etiology of the increasing percentages of obese children is based upon a variety of variables. Parental influence on children's eating habits and socioeconomic variables, which influence parents, appeared to be possible factors in the development of childhood obesity. / Master of Science

An Ode to Sympathy : A Psychoanalytical Approach to Mr. Morel's Behavior D. H. Lawrence's Sons and Lovers

Pavlidou, Eirini January 2024 (has links)
In his bildungsroman Sons and Lovers, published in 1913, D. H. Lawrence portrays the disharmonious life conditions of the coal-mining communities in England at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. While the main focus of the novel is the mother’s excessive love towards one of the sons, the reader also encounters the father of the family, Walter Morel. Mr. Morel is perceived as a brutal, vain and ignorant man. The readership might imply this description to be accurate in terms of Morel’s behavior. However, this essay argues that there are underlying reasons for his extreme attitudes and actions. Thus, the aim of this essay is to identify and explain the underlying reasons as to why Mr. Morel behaves in such a neurotic way in the presence of his family. The close reading of the novel and the use of Freudian psychoanalysis illustrated with the help of the Neurotic Fear Principle, provide evidence that there is a correlation between Mr. Morel’s attitude and the social and economic conditions in the coal-mining community. Consequently, this essay presents Morel as the embodiment of the severe consequences of industrialism, and how deeply they impact his relationship to his family.
