Problemformulering och syfte:Var fjärde år ska de amerikanska medborgarna rösta om vem som blir landets nästa president. Det är ett val som får mycket uppmärksamhet över hela världen och även i Sverige. Hur medier väljer att gestalta ett val kan ha betydelse för demokratin, genom att det kan påverka människors bild av politik och därmed påverka hur de röstar. Framing, på svenska kallat gestaltningsteorin, är en framträdande teori inom forskningen av hur politik och val gestaltas i media. Teorin om framing har varit till grund för denna studie, eftersom syftet var att undersöka hur gestaltningarna av det amerikanska valet såg ut i svenska medier. De tre gestaltningstyperna som undersökts är sak-, spel- och skandalgestaltning. Metod och materialStudien baseras på en kvalitativ innehållsanalys av politiska nyhetsartiklar i fyra svenska medier: Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen och Svenska Dagbladet. Artiklarna som studerades i varje tidning hade publicerats under den valda tidsperioden; dagen innan, dagen före och dagen efter de tre presidentvalsdebatterna. HuvudresultatResultaten i studiens innehållsanalys visar att de studerade mediernas artiklar dominerades av spelgestaltningar. Dock så förekom sak-, spel- och skandalgestaltningar i alla medier i form av olika dimensioner. Morgontidningar och kvällstidningar gestaltade det amerikanska valet på liknande sätt. Tidigare forskning har visat att sakgestaltning är vanligast i morgontidningar och sak- och skandalgestaltningar förekommer oftare i kvällstidningar. Denna studies resultat visar dock att spel- och skandalgestaltningar förekom i alla medier under den undersökta tidsperioden.

The research project examines Urban Sprawl in the United States and evaluates the alternative planning concept New Urbanism on a regional and local scale. The combination of qualitative and quantitative data sources explores the effectiveness of regional planning agencies on a macro level, as well as the success of mixed-use neighborhoods on a micro level. The results are based on three cities of the United States (Atlanta, Denver, and Portland), 80 qualitative interviews with urban experts, and over 160 questionnaires with residents of three New Urbanism neighborhoods (Riverside, Atlanta; Prospect, Denver; Orenco Station, Portland). The thesis shows and explains the challenges facing contemporary metropolitan areas and neighborhood development projects, the role and impact that public administrations and other policy makers have in this field, as well as how economic decisions on a local, regional, and global level can shape, change and develop urban landscapes. A central argument is that only superordinated regional planning authorities will be able to contain urban sprawl and to face its related complex socio-economic, administrative, and environmental problems. Also, New Urbanism neighborhoods can only be successful on a micro level when they are embedded in an all-embracing and socially well-balanced regional plan. This integrative two-way perspective from a macro and a micro level can enable us to understand urban structures, processes and problems in a more comprehensive way.

Diplomová práce se zabývá euroatlantickými vztahy v politicko-bezpečnostní oblasti po konci studené války. V roce 1991 se rozpadl Sovětský svaz a komunistická hrozba, která se po celých 46 let studené války vznášela nad Evropou, opadla. Tato změna zásadním způsobem změnila postavení Evropy a USA. Spojené státy zůstaly jedinou světovou supervelmocí a sjednocená Evropa se chtěla vymanit závislosti na Spojených státech. 90. léta začínala myšlenkou "globálního světového partnerství" G. Bushe st., končila však tendencí k unilateralistickému přístupu G. Bushe ml. Přesto teroristické útoky z 11. září 2001 demokratický Západ významným způsobem sjednotily. Jestliže se Evropa chtěla stát velmocí podobnou Spojeným státům, pak se jí to ve vojenské oblasti nepovedlo. Přes tyto odstředivé tendence zůstalo mezi Evropou a USA spojenectví, které je vyjádřeny formou spolupráce v NATO.

This work evaluates the current situation in the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The main areas of evaluation are the ongoing reforms, the proposed monetary union and the relationship with the United States. As for the reforms, the main focus is the transition from a closed to an open market economy and the mitigation of their oil dependence. Furthermore, the following chapter deals with an analysis of the Optimum Currency Area for the GCC region. Finally, the last chapter is aimed to provide a brief insight into the US-GCC relationship and its prospects in the near future.

El Sistema USA has grown to become an organization with over 100 programs across the nation. The organization has become known for offering free music instruction to the poorest neighborhoods and school districts in the country. The vast majority of these programs offer string programs that focus on ensemble- based learning. What is lacking is a uniquely El Sistema method of instruction for strings. This doctoral essay will discuss the current state of violin pedagogy for beginning violin group classes in El Sistema USA programs, examine areas where there is a lack of unity in teaching styles using information collected from a national survey, and propose a first-year teaching prospectus that incorporates the organization’s core values to be used for reference by instructors.
