PhDr. Lenka Krámská, Ph.D. Pages: 101 Number of sources: 93 The thesis deals with the topic of psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) and their differential diagnosis in the context of attachment and its measuring. Based on theoretical knowledge, the relation between attachment disorders and the diagnosis of PNES was assumed. This connection was examined by comparing the results of three groups of respondents with different diagnoses (PNES, PNES and epilepsy, epilepsy) and a control group. The theoretical part deals with the problematics of attachment, PNES and epilepsy. The empirical part examines differences between groups of respondents, correlations of the variables with socio-demographic factors and correlations between results of each used method. Three questionnaires, PBI, ECR and ECR-RS were used for the research. The data were collected in the Epilepsy Centre at the Na Homolce Hospital. The research sample consisted of a total of 84 respondents. The results were statistically significant for numerous hypotheses. Psychologické aspekty chronické pooperační bolesti v kardiochirurgii / Psychological aspects of chronic postsurgical pain in cardiosurgery

This thesis focuses on the psychological factors that play a role in the development and maintenance of chronic postsurgical pain in patients after cardiac surgery. The literature review deals with the mechanisms of chronic postsurgical pain, its risk factors, the process of the transformartion of acute pain into chronic pain, and the psychological management of chronic pain after surgery, specifically in the field of cardiosurgery. The thesis focuses in particular on patient-related factors in terms of anxiety or depression before or after the surgery, coping strategies, fear of pain, attachment styles, and how are these factors involved in the development nad maintenance of chronic pain. The empirical part consists of a research of quantitative design conducted at the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine and FN KV in Prague, which monitors the development of pain in patients after cardiac surgery at the time of discharge, 3 months after the surgery and after 1 year after the surgery, and focuses on the assessment of preoperative and postoperative patient-related factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of chronic pain. The main aim of the research is to identify these psychological factors.

Coping Strategy as Mediator between Parental Attachment and the Parent-Child Relationship

Previous research has shown that adult attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance are associated with both coping strategy use and the parent-child relationship. Additionally, research has shown that coping strategy is associated with aspects of the parent-child relationship. The current study aimed to further examine associations between parental romantic attachment, coping strategy use, and the parent-child relationship. It was hypothesized that coping strategy use would mediate the relationship between parental romantic attachment and aspects of the parent-child relationship. Participants included 86 heterosexual couples (N = 176 parents) from the Family and Kid Connection project archival dataset. Instruments included a demographic questionnaire, the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale, a brief measure of coping, and the Attachment and Relational Frustration Subscales of the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire. An actor-partner independence model was proposed and tested via multilevel modeling. Higher levels of parental attachment anxiety predicted poorer parent-child relationships. Father's attachment avoidance also predicted poorer father-child relationships. Higher levels of both parental attachment dimensions predicted greater use of avoidant emotional coping. Finally, greater use of avoidant emotional coping predicted poorer parent-child relationships. Results partially supported proposed mediational hypotheses. Two mediational paths were supported by results: an actor-actor path in which fathers' avoidant emotional coping mediated the association between fathers' romantic attachment avoidance and father-child attachment, and an actor-actor path in which mothers' avoidant emotional coping mediated the association between mothers' romantic attachment anxiety and mother-child attachment.

Conductas de riesgo y representación de estilos de apego en adolescentes de un colegio limeño / Risk behaviors and representation of attachment styles in adolescents from a school in Lima

El objetivo del presente trabajo es correlacionar las conductas de riesgo y representación de estilos de apego en adolescentes. La muestra estuvo conformada por 177 escolares cuyas edades oscilan entre 12 y 17 años. Los instrumentos empleados fueron el Cuestionario de Evaluación Cognitiva de Eventos de Riesgo (Fromme, Katz & Rivet, 1997) y la Versión Reducida del Cuestionario CaMir para la evaluación del apego adaptado a Perú (Valenzuela, 2014). Los resultados indican que se ha encontrado una correlación inversa, baja y significativa entre Seguridad: Disponibilidad y apoyo de figuras de apego con Conductas agresivas (r = -.189, p < .05), Conductas académicas irresponsables (r = -.199, p < .05) y Conductas sexuales de riesgo (r = -.149, p < .05). / The purpose of this work was to correlate risk behaviors with the representative attachment styles among adolescents in a school in Lima. Participants were 177 adolescents ranging in age from 12 to 17 years. Two instruments were used to measure the variables: the CaMir-R (Valenzuela, 2014) and the CARE (Fromme, Katz & Rivet, 1997). The results showed that there is an inverse, low and significant correlation between Safety: Availability and attachment figure supports with Aggressive behaviors (r = -.189, p < .05), Irresponsible academic behaviors (r = -.199, p < .05) and Risky Sexual Behaviors (r = -.149, p < .05). Culture-specific attachment strategies in the Cameroonian Nso: Cultural solutions to a universal developmental task

Early mother-infant interactions are influenced by the eco-cultural context within which they take place and impact the infant´s development of socio-emotional competences. The genetically open programs of the attachment system enable a child within the limits of the system to adapt to varying eco-cultural contexts. This study focuses on the cultural aspects of attachment among the Cameroonian Nso, a prototypical interdependent cultural group very distinct from Western cultures. 32 Nso families with one-year old infants were visited twice by a German / Cameroonian female stranger respectively, who greeted family, mother and child and interacted with the child for five minutes. The visiting scenes were videotaped and the child s reactions were coded with respect to emotional reaction, closeness with mother, signs of avoidance or approach towards the stranger. Additionally, the mothers were interviewed on attachment topics. Results for the greeting scenes show three distinct reaction patterns, independent of whether the stranger was a German or Cameroonian woman. Children reacted predominantly fearful, curious or unemotional. Results are discussed by drawing on information gathered through the interviews which suggest that calm, non-distressed children are highly valued in the Nso ethnicity and that mothers deliberately use frightening behavior as a means of education. From a western point of view, maternal frightening behavior is considered to be responsible for the development of disorganization; The results suggest that within the cultural context of the Nso, however, typical reactions traditionally associated with disorganization like freezing and impassiveness need to be (re-)interpreted according to the eco-cultural context.

Neural correlates of romantic love and romantic attachment

In the field of neuroscience, being in love and feeling romantically attached to a partner is described as a dynamic process. Romantic love may be viewed as a motivational system, changing throughout time and place, fluctuating on the interest and motivation of the individual. Early memories and attachment towards a caregiver, lay the foundation for later attachment behavior, also known as attachment styles. In this thesis, an exploratory approach is present. The thesis aims to introduce and describe the neural correlates of romantic love and romantic attachment. Brain regions concerned with reward, emotion and thought processing, such as the reward circuitry network of the brain and the limbic system, are being investigated. So are other brain areas involved in romantic love and romantic attachment. Research findings suggest that brain areas responsible for affection, emotional control, learning, memory and social judgment are all involved in the complex processes of being in love and feeling romantically attached. These findings are represented by the involvement of the frontal lobe, cerebral cortex, limbic system, orbitofrontal cortex, and hippocampus, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), ventral tegmental area (VTA), caudate tail, including the reward pathways of the brain. Distribution and regulation of neurotransmitters such as; vasopressin, oxytocin, dopamine, corticosterone and serotonin are all present in the state of romantic  attachment and romantic love. Overlapping evidence confirms the involvement of the reward circuitry network, together with the limbic system as crucial in the formation and maintenance of a romantic relationship.

Abstrakt Studien syftar till att undersöka vilka olika strategier sex förskollärare beskriver kan ha betydelse för att skapa en trygg anknytning mellan barnen i förskolan och pedagogerna. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten som låg till grund för studiens syfte och frågeställningar var Bowlbys (2010) anknytningsteori. Sex förskollärare intervjuades och datamaterialet analyserades tematiskt och ledde fram till studiens resultat. Resultaten delas in i fyra kategorier. Strategierna förskollärare uttrycker som betydelsefulla bygger på vikten av tillitsfulla relationer, miljön som strategi för trygg anknytning, förståelse och strategier vid inskolning och förståelse för vikten av kommunikation. Slutsatsen av studien är att anknytningsteorin behöver uppmärksammas i förskolan. Omsorg för barnet behöver få lika mycket plats som barns lärande i förskolans utbildning. Förskollärare använder sig av sina kunskaper och tidigare erfarenheter för att forma och använda olika strategier i arbetet med barns anknytning.

Child and youth care workers' knowledge and perception of and challenges related to attachment difficalties related by children residing in child and youth care centres : suggestions for social work support

Child and youth care workers (CYCWs) provide intervention and support to children and youth in child and youth care centres (CYCCs) The purpose of this study was to investigate CYCWs’ knowledge and perceptions of attachment difficulties of children residing in CYCCs and to provide suggestions for social work support. The study adopted the Attachment Theory and Circle of Courage Theory. Drawing on qualitative methodology, 16 participants employed in CYCCs in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan region, South Africa were purposively selected for in-depth, qualitative interviews. The eight-step data analysis method by Tesch (in Creswell, 2014:198) was used. To ensure trustworthiness of the findings, the researcher mainly used Guba’s model cited in Krefting (1990:214–222).The researcher adhered to prescribed ethical considerations. The study recommended that child and youth care as a profession should be recognised and supported to ensure quality services to children with attachment difficulties living in CYCCs. / Social Work

Exploring the Role of Eco-Communities in Fostering Environmental Stewardship : A Study of Volunteer Tourism at Cloughjordan Eco-Village

In recent years, there has been a shift in interest in travel, toward an increasing interest in sustainable travel and alternative forms of travel. As a result, there is also an interest in research studying these alternative travel concepts. Therefore, this qualitative study looks at experiences in ecovillages, focusing on volunteer workers. It examines the effects of the ecovillages that influence these volunteers to become environmental stewards. For this purpose, the concept of place attachment, as the connection to the place and the people within the ecovillage, is used. As well as the concept of transformative learning, i.e., the change of views and orientations of the participants of the learning program. To get a better overview of the context of the case study, the literature on voluntourism and voluntourism in the global north (due to the location of the case study), as well as on communities and eco-communities will be examined. The case study is an ecovillage in Ireland, located in Cloughjordan, the middle of Ireland. There, 11 in-depth interviews and observations were conducted, and the volunteers were interviewed about their experiences and their time in the ecovillage. The results of this study suggest three ways in which volunteers are influenced by their ecovillage experiences to become environmental stewards. On the one hand, this is the case due to the recognition of the importance of the developed soft skills. As this is learning for oneself and improving communication with other people. Furthermore, by learning with and from each other, the volunteers are led to take stewardship actions. Finally, it is also the community itself that manages to implement stewardship among the volunteers through the way of life and togetherness and the high value of environmental actions through place attachment.
