What is an event? What sort of object are they? How is a given event distinguished from other events and other objects? This thesis on science oriented metaphysics will take Davidson's account of events as its starting point to answer the above questions. It will develop this conception of events into one that is consistent with the special theory of relativity by updating its notions of change, cause and property. The new concept of a proper property, a generalization of the notion of an invariant, is introduced to solve some of these metascientific problems. Other features of the work include an analysis of the Lorentz force equation as it applies to one family of cases of causation, showing that a use of cause and effect to help individuate events cannot be complete until relativistic features are built into it. I propose that the conception of a proper property will also solve this worry over the nature of causation as it affects the issues of events above. In particular, it will attempt to solve a charge of circularity which has been leveled at Davidson's account. This property analysis also has the feature that it makes the account of events which started with Davidsonian inspiration (i.e. causes and effects are intimately connected to events) more like Kim's. Kim's account of events is modified on the grounds it does not do justice to our intuitions about changes and events.

In this master work has been passed in review theory material of database and database management system. In addition, has been analysed the main parts of information system of business companies. Microsoft Office Access 2003 is the database management program that gives an improved user experience and an expanded ability to import, export, and work with XML data files. Working in Access 2003 is easier because common errors are identified and flagged for you with options to correct them. Additionally, a new feature to Access 2003 also helps database developers view information on dependencies between database objects. Therefore, Microsoft Office Access 2003 was used to created database management system of company, which sells products of food. In addition, has been explored how influence relations between tables, number of records, number of fields and length of text fields on the rate. Business management system is the main part of comapany information system. Microsoft Office Access 2003 could use small companies, which have no more than 20 computers. This program has some advantages, because it isn‘t cost a lot and everyone could install it without any problem. Examinations show that relations between tables and length of text fields don‘t influnce on the rate. But the rate depends on the number of records and the number of fields.

The work is devoted to modeling of company’s financial flows using XML. Company’s financial flows have been described and their classification has been presented in the introduction. The problem of compatibility of data exchange formats has been raised. The aim of the work has been stated, as well as the problems to be solved. The XML review has been presented in Chapter 2. The main XML system components have been described. Such notions as XML data files, XML schemas, XML transformations have been explained. The structure of an XML file has been analyzed and the rules of a “well - formed” XML have been formulated. Chapter 3 deals with the possibilities of XML application in Excel 2003. One of the main notion of XML – the map notion - has been introduced. The relationship between XML maps, schemas and data files has been established. The task pane XML Source has been considered in detail. Chapter 4 deals with the problems of XML data import and export using Access 2003. The practical part of the work has been described in Chapters 5 and 6. The examples of XML maps creating in Excel 2003 has been presented in Chapter 5, as well as the procedures of XML data importing into Excel 2003 sheets. The solution of the problem of exporting of an Access 2003 table into Excel 2003 using XML is given in Chapter 6.

This research focuses on contributions – oral and written – on the topic of linguistic diversity made by Members of the European Parliament during the plenary sessions from 2000 to 2003 inclusive and analyses the attitudes expressed by Members towards the concept of linguistic diversity, particularly as it applies to the national languages and the regional autochthonous languages of Member States. The analysis is set within a framework consisting of contemporary academic work and the classic work by Johann Gottfried von Herder and the German Philosophen. The European Year of Languages 2001 was widely supported by the European Commission; but an important question seemed to be what significance, if any, did maintaining linguistic diversity have for Members of the European Parliament in the years immediately following 2001. This research set out to discover to what extent issues related to linguistic diversity were given expression to in the plenary debates from 2000 to 2003, the years corresponding essentially to the fifth parliamentary term. Was only lip service paid to linguistic diversity in the years 2000 – 2003? Or did the European Year of Languages focus the attention of parliamentarians from all political groups in an ongoing way on issues of language use and preservation in the European Union, especially since the Union was to be significantly enlarged by the addition of ten Member States on January 1, 2004? Did the MEPs recognise that there were social and economic benefits accruing from pursuing policies of linguistic diversity? How important was linguistic diversity to the essence of the European Union in the eyes of its Members of Parliament? To what extent did MEPs espouse the use of just one language as a preferred method of communication in and around the Parliament? How much respect was there for the regional and minority indigenous languages of the European Union? Did MEPs regard linguistic diversity as an important consideration in determining the suitability of other countries seeking accession? The research reviews the response from the Commission in subsequent years to the views articulated by the MEPs. Finally, are there lessons in any of this for New Zealand?
