Colombani, Hélène 05 December 2012 (has links)
While scientific progress offers unimaginable opportunities, constraints of industrialization, urbanization and modern technology never cease to reverse the field of the intangible and spiritual. Long spared Oceania remains a privileged space where the impregnation of traditions and nature remained alive and meaningful. “Imagination in Kanak myths” is the subject of our research, the opening of a novel exploratory field which leads to the revelation of the “Real hidden” bases this approach. The contribution of the study and research of the first missionaries, linguists and anthropologists has provided a set of data and myths that describe and interpret the organization of the Kanak society, its customs and traditions. Investigations of ethnology remained away from traditional theories and discoveries of the Imaginary Freud, Jung and Bachelard were precursors. We will call the methods of analysis and investigation of the collective unconscious and depth psychology, to fit the field of mythology Kanak. The implementation of a corpus of myths collected at the beginning of colonization, explains the structural composition of each story, which develops their “genetic identification card”, and imagine a new method of exploring the world of myths. Implementation of “mythocritic” Gilbert Durand adapted and supplemented by mythanalysis, performs an exploratory mythodologie of the imaginary of " sermo mythicus". Constellations of images, symbols and archetypes decrypted in these ancient myths, then reveal the deep semantic as well as joining the universal archetypes. Our aim is to highlight the relevance of previous theories that have revolutionized such fields as psychology, philosophy, and literature up and opening new horizons for the interpretation of oral traditions which are major among the most old Oceania, and to confirm their rich symbolism and their contribution to the knowledge of Anthropos that Leenhard had emphasized.

The series has set its course and achieved cult status, becoming the success it is today with an extensive amount of episodes and seasons and a large expansion of its narrative universe to other media such as movies, comics, literature, digital and analog games. The expansion of a work brings a series of obstacles, a vast narrative maintained for so long and in so many media, undergoes several changes with the passage of time, the fans can also change or have different expectations. Nevertheless some series like Doctor Who, manage to remain firm and coherent over time. These series can find and construct a solid identity that is interesting and acceptable to its fans, this identity is related to the archetypes of the fictional universe of the series and is what often guides the narrative direction and the migration of this narrative to other media, this study aimed to analyze and punctuate the elements that define this identity of Doctor Who and how this can contribute to the production and study of vast transmedia narratives.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1030851 bytes, checksum: 027d3526f86165996df4dda79fe6af63 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-10-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This work proposes a study of the sebastianist legend as mythical matter in Romance d A pedra do Reino (RPR). We assume, supported by Northrop Frye, Carl Jung, Mircea Eliade, Joseph Campbell and Gilbert Durand the perspective in which the myth remains but restore itself infinitely by images and archetypical symbolism. First, we reach to rebuild the conforming cultural essence of the fictional s sebastianist legends of Portugal and Brasil identifying its archetypical components. Thus, we look for sebastianist messianic references, for its thesis and discourse, in the plurilinguistic design of RPR, considering its relevance in the mythical discourse s configuration of the narrative. We notice a forceful tension between apocalyptical and demoniac images, resulting from narrator-protagonist idealistic view and his involvement in realistic world incongruence, pointing myth s dislocations and ironic manner predominance in the narrative. Besides the external and unconcluded character s contest, connected to the judicial process and to the production of his Obra de Gênio da Raça (Genius Lineage/Race Work), foundation stone to his sebastianist messianic kingdom of the Fifth Empire, we distinguish some inner demand linked to his way to maturity which doesn t consolidate effectively. The character s project and their temporary dismissal state plus his expectation of its accomplishment in a not far future constitutes the most important sebastianist messianic bias in the production, strengthened by other thematic recurrences in the Pedra Bonita s sebastianist legend, and make possible still the establishment of a more fertile analogy to the Portuguese manifestation. These different fronts of myth s restoration grant universality and absence of temporality to RPR.

Sandra da Costa Lacerda 30 March 2010 (has links)
Considering that apart from the teachers and the board team, the support staff works in schools and that there is few academic research about who they are, how they influence the intersubjective relations which occur in schools among employers, students, teachers and board team, delineates this research target which is to try to understand who those actors are, how they think, feel and act every day in schools, also understand their stories, experiences, practices and ways during their lives or, in other words, what was nominated archetypical journeys, which favor the search for a bigger knowledge about themselves, their advances, limits and possibilities. In oder to do that a methodological phenomenological-understanding approach was adopted, intending to investigate the questions which mobilized the support staff and influenced their way of being, thinking, acting and feeling, observing how they participate in the Educators Education Inter-Schools Project for five years. The theoretical support of this research was the indispensable contributions from Gilbert Durand, Cornelius Castoriadis, Edgar Morin, Michel Mafesolli, Joseph Campbell, Paula Carvalho and Carol Pearson, among others. This work has three chapters: the first one is dedicated to the introduction, theoretical references and methodology; the second, to the Educators Education Inter-Schools Project development, in which the support staff participated; and the third, where the reports and stories from some those professionals and their own journeys are told. In the end, there are some considerations about who those actors are and their journeys toward themselves.

Resistance of Female Stereotypes in The Bluest Eye  : Destroying Images of Black Womanhood and Motherhood

Abdalla, Fardosa January 2014 (has links)
Stereotypes and myths are created by media to simplify and mystify reality. The two are used to form negative stereotypical images that are used as tools of social oppression in today’s white patriarchy. This essay will focus on how Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye depicts black womanhood and motherhood and resists the reductive images of black women through the narrative technique. In the text we find the stereotypical images of the Mammy and the Matriarch in the character Pauline "Polly" Breedlove, both simplifying and mystifying black motherhood but also condescending towards African-American family constellations. The text resists these images by making readers inhabit Polly who at first fits in to the two archetypes, only to then give us additional information and use an engaging narrative technique that invites the reader to decide if Polly really is the Mammy and the Matriarch.

The Amazon goes nova : considering the female hero in speculative fiction

Donaldson, Eileen 09 November 2004 (has links)
The female hero has been marginalized through history, to the extent that theorists, from Plato and Aristotle to those of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, state that a female hero is impossible. This thesis argues that she is not impossible. Concentrating on the work of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, a heroic standard is proposed against which to measure both male and female heroes. This heroic standard suggests that a hero must be human, must act, must champion a heroic ethic and must undertake a quest. Should a person, male or female, comply with these criteria, that person can be considered a hero. This thesis refutes the patriarchal argument against female heroism, proposing that the argument is faulty because it has at its base a constricting male-constructed myth of femininity. This myth suggests that women are naturally docile and passive, not given to aggression and heroism, but rather to motherhood and adaptation to adverse circumstances, it does not reflect the reality of women’s natural abilities or capacity for action. Indeed, with the rise of contemporary feminist discourse the patriarchal myth of femininity is being demystified and, without the myth of femininity to constrain her, the female hero is now re-emerging in certain areas of cultural expression. The examples of female heroes discussed in this study are taken from speculative fiction, encompassing the genres of both science fiction and fantasy. Speculative fiction, which has a propensity for challenging the status quo and questioning common societal assumptions, provides the perfect platform for women writers to confront feminist issues and launch the female hero. The female hero challenges the patriarchal claim that all heroes must be masculine, she defies patriarchal power structures and she demands a re-evaluation of women’s capabilities. The female hero gives women an example of heroic activity to emulate, in place of the ‘angel in the house’ that women have had to bow to for so long. The works discussed in this thesis cover a range of authors, from those of outspoken contemporary feminist, Joanna Russ, to early speculative works like those of C.L. Moore. Lesser-known authors such as Vonda McIntyre and Tanith Lee are also discussed. / Dissertation (MA (English))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Modern European Languages / unrestricted
