The bats constitute a group of extremely important mammals of the ecological viewpoint and of public health, being important dispersores of seeds and pollen in the tropics. With the expansion of the agribusinesses more and more intense in the northwest of the state of São Paulo, more rare stayed the native forest fragments presence that be substantial to the point of maintain a big range of species. The own unfamiliarity of the diversity of species for the majority of the táxons was constituted impediment for the conservation stamp measures taking in the region. In that context, the objectives of this study were, 10 1) carry out a hoist of the bats species diversity - with emphasis in his trophic relations in Phyllostomidae - found in three areas in the northwest region of the State of São Paulo: (I) Ciliary Forest next to the Talhadinho brook, (ii) Ciliary Forest of the Tenentes brook and (iii) Experimental Farm (Pólo Regional de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico dos Agronegócios do Centro Norte) and quiz the effect of the location of the area about the wealth and abundance of the species; and 2) Verify interactions between guilds of bats and his resources you will feed. For that, were carried out two monthly collections in each area during the period of June of 2005 to May of 2006, utilizing eight amounted to mist-net kind nets the nightfall and retreats after the 0300 h. / Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the composition, abundance and diversity of swimming crabs of unconsolidated substrate at depths up to 35 m, in two distinct regions of the northern coast of São Paulo. Additionally, the influence of the sediment and water temperature on the diversity and abundance of portunid crabs was analyzed. The samples were collected using a commercial shrimp trawler equipped with double-rig nets. The crabs and environmental variables were sampled monthly during two years, at depths from 5 to 35 m in Ubatuba (UBA) and Caraguatatuba (CAR) regions. Richness (S), diversity (H'), evenness and dominance values were determined in each depth and season. Eight species of portunid crabs were obtained (SUBA = 8 and SCAR = 7), totaling 19,287 individuals collected during study period (UBA = 9,645 and CAR = 9,642). The depths with the highest richness values (UBA: 5 m and CAR: 15 m) were not necessarily those with the highest diversity and evenness values (UBA: 20 m and CAR: 5 m). Temporally, the seasons with the highest diversity and evenness (UBA: winter 01 and autumn 03, CAR: winter 01 and autumn 02) were the seasons which showed the highest richness (UBA: winter 01, summer 02 and autumn 02-03, CAR: autumn 02). The highest dominance values were recorded in sites and periods with the smallest diversity indexes, and vice versa. Phi (sediment) and temperature did not correlate significantly with the diversity but correlated with the abundance of individuals. Among the species obtained, Charybdis hellerii, Cronius ruber and Portunus ordwayi presented, all together, relative abundance smaller than 0.1% in each region, while Callinectes ornatus and Portunus spinicarpus comprised more than 80% of the total abundance. The highest abundance of the latter species varied differently among the depths and seasons. Sites and periods with the highest diversity indexes are related to the great uniformity of the number of individuals ... / Doutor

January 2013 (has links)
Este trabalho enfatiza a importância de grandes tributários na manutenção da diversidade de peixes de grandes bacias hidrográficas, já com diversos trechos represados / Abstract: The aim of this study was to characterize the composition, diversity and ecological attributes of fish assemblages of Taquari River, one of the main tributaries of Jurumirim Reservoir, Upper Paranapanema River, SP. Samplings were carried out every other three months between April, 2011 and February, 2012, using gill nets, trawl net and sieve to capture the fishes with standardized effort. It was established four sampling sites (upper, middle, low and dam) with different physical characteristics. It was sampled 4.598 specimens belonging to five orders, 16 families, 31 genus, and 41 species. A longitudinal pattern related to ecological attributes of fish assemblages was characterized, in which the upper stretch, the furthest from the dam floodplain, showed greater abundance and species richness. However, these indexes tend to diminish toward the stretches located downstream. This study contributes to occurrence records of nonnative species, with greater abundance and biomass of Cichla kelberi, an invasive piscivorous species, in the lentic stretch indicating patterns of spatial and temporal variations differentiated among the stretches sampled. Dammed waters jeopardize species richness of natural aquatic ecosystem overtime, due to the reduction of areas that are favorable to life cycle success of local species. Therefore, the study emphasizes the importance of large tributaries upon maintenance of fish diversity of large river basins with several dammed stretches / Mestre

There is an urgent need to develop ecological knowledge to support conservation and management of the protected area network within the Serra do Mar biogeographical region. Results of previous research showed a high variation in the abundance of large mammals within large protected areas of Atlantic Forest within this region that is comparable if not greater than that found in fragmented Atlantic Forest ecosystems. This thesis shows how environmental variables and anthropogenic impacts influence large mammals within the remaining continuous Atlantic Forest remnants of the Serra do Mar. Continuous Atlantic Forest remnants are highly heterogeneous and this heterogeneity results from environmental factors and human impacts. The results presented in the four chapters of this thesis highlight that, although the Atlantic Forest is the most intensely studied biome for mammals in Brazil, the knowledge necessary for the conservation and effective management of this class in the Atlantic Forest is still lacking. Additional studies are needed to allow the establishment of zones within protected areas as defined by Brazilian legislation (Law: 9.985/2000 (SNUC)). This zoning is necessary to achieve the multiple objectives of protected areas (including the maintenance of biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services) within the socioeconomic development in a regional and national scale / Doutor

Santos, Ana Paula Freitas. January 2014 (has links)
Abstract: According to fishing statistical data of the State of São Paulo in the year of 2012, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri was the second most captured species by the São Paulo fishing fleets, being Cananéia the second region in the state to have the highest fishing production of this species. In order to have a more sustainable manner for exploring the fishing resources we need a clear understanding on the information regarding the reproductive biology of the species coupled with more studies on the population dynamics and on the recruitment of these organisms so exploited by fishing. The aim of this work was to investigate the growth and longevity of the individuals, the sexual maturity, the recruitment and reproductive periods, and the sex ratio of the X. kroyeri in the Cananéia region. The shrimps had been captured monthly from July/12 to December/13, in seven different points, using a commercial shrimp fishing boat equipped with an otter trawl type net. Sampling effort was 30 minutes/trawling. The environment factors had been monitored using an Eureka multiparameter probe. The individuals have been quantified, measured (carapace length CL mm), gendered and tested for their gonadal stage. The female were significantly bigger than the males (♀15.8± 4.4 mm e ♂15.6± 3.1 mm) corroborating with the standard pattern for the Dendobranchiata shrimp. Furthermore, the parameters obtained in the growth analyses also presented differences in relation to gender, and the female coefficient growth (k) was lower than those of the males. It has been observed that both genders take around four months to reach the minimum capture size (♀17.9mm and ♂15.8 mm), using only the adult individuals for this calculation. The estimated sexual maturity value included in the analyses at the demographic categories has been 15.5 mm and 15.8 mm for male and female respectively. The reproductive period was continuous with peaks on... / Mestre

Fragmentação florestal afeta a distribuição e ocorrência da acarofauna (Arachnida ; Acari) associada a vegetação /

Demite, Peterson Rodrigo. January 2010 (has links)
The main threats to biological diversity are fragmentation and habitat loss. The process of fragmentation subjects the forest remnants to a matrix of different types of vegetation, exposing the organisms to the conditions of a different adjacent ecosystem. This study was carried out in 18 forest fragments, nine small (50 to 150 ha) and nine large (> 200 ha), and its main objective was to verify if forest fragmentation affects the mite fauna associated to the vegetation. We selected and marked in four small and four large fragments ten specimens of Actinostemon communis (Euphorbiaceae) and ten of Trichilia casaretti (Meliaceae), five of each at the forest edge and five whitin each fragment. The evaluation of the effect of the matrix in the fragments was based on the resident mite fauna in A. communis in six fragments, two neighbors for each matrix type (sugar cane crop, orange crop and areas of pastures). We sampled on average, per individual plant, 39 leaves of A. communis and 21 leaflets of T. casaretti, in 3-monthly samplings accomplished from July 2007 to April 2009. We recorded 124 species in the two plants, belonging to 21 families. The highest abundances were recorded in two samples accomplished in October in A. communis, and in July 2007 for T. casaretti. The largest mite species richness, for both plants, was recorded in April and July, and the lowest one in October. According to our results, the size, the location of plants and the adjacent matrix do influences the occurrence and abundance of mites in the fragments. The highest similarity recorded between two fragments was probably influenced by the shape of the fragments, as well as by the size and the adjacent matrix. The highest diversity...

January 2014 (has links)
Abstract: The freshwater fauna of fish in Brazil is particularly diverse and a lot of these species that compose it are not naturally found elsewhere. Such diversity has a high number of stocks in natural watercourses, which have suffered significant reduction as a result of uncontrolled exploitation of resources, because the capture of juveniles, overfishing, lack of supervision and protectionist measures, water pollution, introduction of exotic species, and especially by the increasing fragmentation of rivers by the construction of hydroelectric projects, which modify the collective spawning areas and disrupt the migratory path of some species. Currently listed on the official list of endangered species (IN on 4/2005) 196 fish species, of which 141 from freshwater, among which seven are considered overfished. Among the migratory fish species classified as endangered by IUCN, the Brycon is the most represented in the Red Book of Endangered Fauna (MMA, 2008), with six endangered species, and piracanjuba Brycon orbignyanus is among them. Brycon orbignyanus is a reofílico fish because migrate long distances to breed and, therefore, does not reproduce naturally in captivity environment. / This study aimed to evaluate features of landscape structure related to the conservation of biodiversity in a watershed located in strategically important region for the implementation of the Paraná River Biodiversity Corridor. The maps were made from satellite images and manipulated in the Spring GIS software. From the land use and land cover map 4 different scenarios were generated: real situation (current vegetation), considering edge effect (50 m surrounding the fragments as edge), without the Permanent Preservation Areas - PPA (dismissed the existence of the PPAs) and the scenario with the restoration of all PPAs (according to the Brazilian Forest Code). Based on landscape metrics the results of the land use and land cover and other scenarios were analyzed. The results indicated that the predominant land use is agriculture and 24.6% of the total study area consists of natural vegetation, and the largest remnant has 315.3 ha. The PPAs occupy 3.1% of the study area and 75% of these areas are covered with natural vegetation. The other remaining 25% of PPA have no vegetation. The results showed that when the edge effect in the remnants was considered it remained only 28% as the central area; in the scenario that the presence of PPAs was disregarded it was generated a great impact in fragmentation, with a decrease in the area of class and increase in the number of fragments. In the scenario that considered the missing PPAs restoration it was promoted an increase in the effective connectivity of the landscape, from the results of the PROX index. Thus, PPA have a fundamental function in connecting forest fragments. The evaluation of the scenarios showed that the restoration of small areas of PPAs, according to the Brazilian Forest Code, could generate strong benefits for the landscape connectivity.

In Brazil, studies of birds on islands are scarce, which are mainly focused on seabirds and are restrict to list of species. The Queimada Grande Island has been subject of several studies, mainly on Golden Lancehead (Bothrops insularis), an endemic pitviper which feed mainly on birds. However, there are few data on the avifauna of this island. The aim of this study were: (1) describe the richness and trophic structure of bird communities on the Queimada Grande Island, (2) to verify if occurs seasonal variations in richness and abundance of birds in the island, and (3) to compare the difference in the composition and relative abundance of species between island and mainland. We made six field expeditions during five days each one. The sampling was done by transects and count points. Birds were sampled with use of fixed points along a trail that crosses the island in the North-South. A total of 63 species were recorded. The most abundant species was Troglodytes musculus, which is a resident. There were variation in the number of species among the expeditions, and more species were recorded in the dry season. This variation occurs mainly due to migratory species, because these are almost absent in the rainy season, considered the reproductive period of the birds. The guild of omnivores was the most representative in number of species, while insectivores were the most abundant. The Turdus spp. showed more seasonality than other species. The diversity in the continent (Juréia region) was higher than the island. Troglodytes musculus were never recorded as prey of Bothrops insularis, which indicate an ability of the species or this population... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre
