Educação literária pela mediação: estudo aplicado no primeiro ano do ensino fundamental

Ló, Judithe Eva Dupont 20 April 2011 (has links)

Wrapped Up in Books: The Inner Life of Newland Archer in The Age of Innocence

Reeves, Nancee C. 19 April 2007 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Few in the world value books more than writers do. They have an understanding of literature that it is hard for a non-writer to grasp – an awareness of the importance of words and stories, and their place in society. Therefore, when a writer has one of his own characters read a book, it generally means something. To pass over such a detail, to ignore the clues carefully placed, is to deprive oneself of the full meaning of a work. Every action, item, and movement in a novel contributes to the end, to the purpose and meaning of the work. A character in a novel might toss a book aside, think nothing of having an empty library, or merely note a title in passing. But to the writer, and so also to the reader, these actions are of great significance. This paper looks at The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and analysis the reading material of its hero, Newland Archer, in order to come to a better understanding of this character, Wharton’s narratives in general, and of Wharton herself. Newland Archer is a character who is in significant ways defined by the books he acquires and reads. Each book has been picked with such care it is possible to get a good idea of what type of person Archer is merely by looking at what he reads. It is therefore important to ask what his reading list says about him and why Wharton would have invested so much time in building this list. Wharton has made Archer’s library his autobiography.

”Om man tar en tråkig bok så börjar den sova” : En kvalitativ intervjustudie av barn som läser för hundar i skolmiljö / ”If you Take a Boring Book it Starts to Sleep” : A Qualitative Interview Study of Children who Read to Dogs in a School Setting

Öhlund, Lovisa January 2013 (has links)
This two years master's thesis examines the experience of children who read to a dog. The theoretical framework is inspired by sociocultural theory developed by Roger Säljö and the concept carnival inspired by Mikhail Bakhtin. The sociocultural theory has been chosen because it emphasizes the role of practice, instruments and communication in learning and the concept carnival has been chosen to analyze the experience of reading to a dog. The method used is qualitative interview and observation. A total of eight interviews and two observations when children read to a dog have been collected. One interview is with a teacher and seven interviews are with the children (six children participated and one child was interviewed twice). The method of analysis is a process in three stages where the first stage is to explore what the children say, the next stage examines the meaning of what is being said and the third stage understands it in relation to the theoretical framework and prior done research. Important results are that most of the children participating in this thesis have a positive experience of reading to a dog. The children read to a dog in different rooms, at different times and the children read to several dogs. The instrument used was fiction books. Since the purpose was to read only to the dogs the role of the teacher who was in the room during the sessions was described by the children as passive. The observations showed a more active role where the teacher helped the children with difficult words. Most children pet the dog while reading and they gave the dog a treat afterwards. The discussion of this thesis focuses on the role of the libraries. It also gives examples on how to develop reading to dogs and what studies can be done in the future. For the program to evolve more literacy activities can be incorporated and the role of the adult and the dog can be more active. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

Reading habits and attitudes of Thai L2 students

Strauss, Michael John 29 February 2008 (has links)
This study investigates the reading habits of three Thai students between their early twenties to early thirties. Although the focus of interest is on their English reading, their reading habits in Thai and English, both fiction and non-fiction, are studied. None of the three subjects regularly reads fiction in Thai or English, and non-fiction books are read almost exclusively for the purpose of study. The research confirms the hypothesis that present reading habits are determined by positive or negative reading experiences in the past. Subjects who enjoyed positive experiences reading fiction or non-fiction in their early years have become regular readers of fiction or non-fiction; the subject who had negative early reading experiences is not a regular reader of any kind of books in either Thai or English. The study does suggest, however, that despite the strong effect of early reading experiences, positive reading experiences in the present can help adults become engaged readers. / English Studies / M.A. (TESOL)

Guidelines for the improvement of reading comprehension skills with reference to the learning disabled secondary school pupil

Lategan, Irene Anne Stewart 11 1900 (has links)
In the secondary school situation, a pupil needs to read to learn, therefore it is imperative to comprehend what is read. Reading comprehension is one of the two functions of reading and it is dependent on the abilities of the reader, the reader's interpretation of the text and the context in which the text is read. In examining reader characteristics, it is evident that it is very difficult for learning disabled pupils with a reading comprehension deficit to comprehend successfully. Their · unique problems can be exacerbated by such external factors as text components and the context in which the reading takes place. Reading comprehension has been instructed to learning disabled secondary school pupils using reading methods and strategies, to facilitate reading comprehension. From this practical experience and the literature studied, guidelines have been formulated for teachers to use to improve the reading comprehension skills of learning disabled secondary school pupils. / Educational Studies / M. No. of bitstreams: 1 Ada.pdf: 366439 bytes, checksum: bdd0af2f7b9b59c1da95cec65484e83f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-12-22 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research has the aim to verify the pedagogic contribution of Fontes Series. Series of books for reading, organized by professor Henrique da Silva Fontes, adopted in public schools of the State of Santa Catarina, in the early 1920‟s and widely used until the 1950‟s. The production of school textbooks and manuals of instruction had its major impetus with the replacement of the abstract nature and few utility of education for intuitive teaching method, also known as object lessons. This method was the basis of the new way of teaching, at the transition of the XIX-XX centuries. After being successfully implemented in several countries, was conducted extensive feasibility study for Brazil, through the reports about Reform of Primary, Secondary and Higher levels, written by Rui Barbosa. However, the implementation of the desired innovations collide with the use of manuals and compendiums for schools who, although express the same philosophical basis, communicated on different aspects to the scientific progress. The procedures and curricular subjects needed to be reviewed, to the effect to print a particular vision of the teaching through the object lessons, which constitute the national modernization project. What is the contribution of the Fontes Series in this context? From that question the research retrieves legal, methodological and didactic aspects of the period, with the purpose of demonstrate the social and pedagogic performed by this series of books for reading. At the time that the school books were translated from German and Italian, in Santa Catarina and, in other states, from French, English, Polish and Japanese, the Fontes Series has collected texts of Brazilian and Portuguese poets and prosaist, emphasizing the value of the vernacular language / Esta pesquisa tem como escopo verificar a contribuição pedagógica da Série Fontes.
