Checa Bañuz, Christian 13 January 2016 (has links)
Cinema affects bodies because it is a body in itself, and as any other body works in both directions: as a cinematic organism –gears working tightly together in an assembly line– or as the heterogeneous body which parts will not match, going beyond the structure of language. Cinematic organism creates convergences around rules of discourse, disguises suture. Cinematic Body without Organs condenses around the suture as a limit, as a divergent singularity, opens the interval, explores regions in between the elements, the out of joint. It is in those in between regions where images becomes haptic, where they touch and affect us as images as such. Where we find not an image of a body but a body-image.

La resistència del buit: ruïna, cos i gest obscè en l'obra de Ciprì i Maresco

Miralles i Broto, Joan Jordi 03 February 2016 (has links)
This thesis traces a journey through three of the mainstays of the unique universe of Daniele Ciprì and Franco Maresco: the land, the body and the obscene gesture. Using a cross-disciplinary and comparative methodology, which brings into play both aesthetic and anthropological concepts, demonstrates how these three categories establish a relationship based on a mutual need, with the ability to create expressive material without the approved and conventional processes. Thus, Ciprì and Maresco’s original and radical vision of cinema and television reaches the limit of representation, making it resistant and allowing their images to survive the passage of time. The last part of the thesis consists of an extensive repertoire of the obscene gestures used by two Sicilian directors.

Goyarrola Olano, Érika 12 January 2016 (has links)
This research develops a theoretical framework for understanding and defining the self-referentiality in contemporary photography. From the analysis of the work of the photographers Francesca Woodman, Antoine d'Agata and Alberto Garcia-Alix, the characteristics that give rise to a self-referential artistic corpus are extracted: identity issues, the multiplicity of the self, self-portrait, autobiography or autofiction in the photographic medium. Particular aspects of each case of study are also discussed such as the importance of the body, the game of mirrors and masks, as well as themes around death, violence and emotions. The three authors discussed are an example of how contemporary photography has created a paradigm shift in the configuration of self-representation.

Cantarella, Laura 28 January 2016 (has links)

Grau, Marta, 1981- 26 January 2016 (has links)
At the beginning of the 21st century we can see how a co-dependency between independent American cinema and the Hollywood film industry has been created. Thus, the aim of this thesis is to investigate if some essential elements of classical narrative persist which have allowed certain independent films to be easily absorbed and distributed by Hollywood. From a neuroscientific perspective, particularly focused on cognitive psychology, and from a starting point intrinsically tied to narratology, key elements in the emotional and cognitive processing of the brain have been researched in order to understand what are the essentials of classical narrative which have survived hidden under the complex narrative mechanics of some contemporary American independent authors' films (Tarantino, Jonze, Lynch, Linklater, González Iñárritu, Nolan...).

La inquietante extrañeza en el cine

Antelo, Marcela 14 December 2015 (has links)
Uncanniness at the cinema comes up when considering the cinematographic experience as an event of sensibility. The dark theatre provides intimacy with strangers while silence and darkness evoke the endless angst of childhood discovered by Sigmund Freud, as he ventures into the field of aesthetics to theorize the Unheimlich as a strangeness that invades the familiar. An esthetic affect. This thesis shows cinema is uncanny because it hovers over reality with the sickle of gaze that shakes things up, within and beyond the field of the visual: the phantoms of gaze and voice. The jouissance of the body before the walking shadows is developed here from the standpoint of the appetite of the eye, the anatomic drama of the close-up, the screen as closed windows, the disturbing stasis of images, and the voice at the other end of the phone receiver as a film character.

Elduque, Albert 10 January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with some European and Brazilian modern movies studying them through the notion of consumption. The work analyses the theoretical and audiovisual constructions of voracity to analyse how films by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Marco Ferreri, Glauber Rocha, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade and Werner Herzog, among others, questioned the film as a consumption object with their aesthetic work. Hunger, consumption and vomit are used as aesthetic dispositifs that deal with time, composition, editing and soundtrack. The thesis is based on the images analysis, but it includes punctual dialogues with other disciplines and theories far from cinema, such as works by Franz Kafka, Antonin Artaud, George Grosz or Georges Bataille.

Muguiro, Carlos 27 November 2013 (has links)
In Russia, the portrayal of nature has always been an essential aesthetic intersection. This intersection has seen the moulding of the leading philosophical and artistic tensions which have shaped Russia’s culture. Against the backdrop of this important cultural issue, this thesis studies the different approaches to nature and landscape in Russian and Soviet cinema. The thesis is divided into three parts. Identification of the Russian landscape charts the history of aesthetic debates about nature which cinema both inherits and assimilates. Components of cinema landscapes catalogues the different landscape approaches which clashed in Russia cinema during the first thirty years of the 20th century. This clash gives rise, in this dissertation, to the concept of the ‘third landscape’, and, additionally, the categories of 'transparent landscape' and 'landscape as presence and apparition'. In the third part, Aesthetic violence of landscape, this methodology is applied to the historical analysis of Russian and Soviet cinema up until the end of the 1960s.

El caso The Withe Diamond, Grizzly Man y The Wild Blue Yonder

Alcalá Anguiano, Fabiola 15 January 2010 (has links)
The objective of this Thesis is to study the ironic-sublime as a rhetorical figure in three nonfiction films by Werner Herzog: The White Diamond, Grizzly Man and The Wild Blue Yonder. The text is divided in two parts: the first one, is a review for different historical, theoretical and artistic contexts that allow us to recognize which are the characteristics of this type of non-fiction cinema; an offer in which the real plays a more poetical role, and the truth that is prosecuted is not true with a few certain facts but with a more universal aesthetics. In the second part, it is analyzed how works the ironic-sublime (the principal characteristic of the non-fiction cinema of Werner Herzog) in the different parts that shape three movies that occupy us. Humor and beauty will be the key to interpret this three histories about man, nature and his limits.

Lareo Fernández, Eva 11 December 2013 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to go deeper into the changes and transformations within the core of visual arts in the decades of the sixties and seventies. We have begun from a specific case which has enabled us to explore the expansion of practices which don’t respond now to the specifications of more conventional means but to a melting-pot of techniques and images including the cinema, photography and an infinite numbers of tools which compel us to redefine concepts, values and functions which art has assumed. Nevertheless, the objective of the study isn’t meant to cover the common totality of art of this period but only the most general features of it or of one fragment of it. So the specific case of Michael Snow, which acquires a relevant presence in these pages, is due to the fact that his works are located in that space between indefinition and transformation in which the relation between art and new technological techniques is an expression of a new feeling – a new way of comprehending the world.
