The complete thesis in print form is available from the University Library. / This thesis examines the relationship between environmental lead exposure and later emotional and behavioural problems experienced by 11-13 year old children enrolled in the Port Pirie Cohort Study (PPCS). The PPCS is the first study to monitor prospectively the association between lifetime blood lead exposure and children's behaviour. Aims to identify current risk factors for asthma and to determine which of these factors, at the population level, is associated with asthma prevalence in children in South Australia. In addition, modelling techniques are used to determine which factors are significant predictors of asthma prevalence in 4 to 5 year old children in S.A. Study results show that at the population level, 9 risk factors are significantly associated with lifetime prevalence and 24 factors with period prevalence. Study findings are generally consistent with existing literature.
