No. of bitstreams: 1 Antonio Pedro Soares.pdf: 1816164 bytes, checksum: c9d36edf08ffef683ecc8bd6879cff2b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-02-25 / This study aimed to characterize histologically the cycle of vitellogenesis of painted lobster Panulirus echinatus from Southern Coast of Pernambuco, in different stages of maturation. 173 females animals were collected from for a period of 12 months between the months of December 2007 to November 2008, an average of 15 animals per month, Tamandaré Beach, South Coast of Pernambuco State. Data collection was performed using gillnets and the samples were taken at random. After being captured the animals were euthanized by heat shock, ovaries and hepatopancreas were collected and individually weighed, fixed in 10% formaldehyde in water from the site of capture for paraffin and the 4% buffered glutaraldehyde for inclusion in historesine. The blocks were cuted and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Gomori's trichrome, hematoxylin / phloxine, PAS + hematoxylin, Control, PAS, PAS + Alcian Blue pH 2.5 and Sudan Black. Histological analysis revealed four maturation stages: development (stage II) Pre-maturity (stage III), maturation (stage IV) and post-spawning (stage V) and three-stage oocytes, no vitellogenic, vitellogenic primary phase, and secondary vitellogenesis. In mature oocytes the cytoplasm is PAS positive and presence of lipid droplets positive for Sudan. Gonadossomatic and hepatossomatic indexes showed an inverse correlation in the different stages of maturation indicating a possibility of transfer of yolk from hepatopancreas to the ovaries during the reproductive period.

Specimens of Illex argentinus from commercial trawl catches along Southern Brazil were sampled monthly for dorsal mantel length (ML), sex, age and maturity from March 2007 to January 2008 in order to compare the cold season (June to November) and the warm season (December to May). Males (51.5%, 106-330 mm, 96-275 days) and females (48.5%, 114-341 mm, 124-257 days) were sampled. ML frequency distributions showed that small specimens occurred year round while larger males and females occurred only in the cold season. Back-calculated hatching dates showed year-round spawning, which is more intense in cold months. Mature males were 131-330mm and 147-275 days and females were 166-341 mm and 146-257 days. Mean ML’s at maturity were 181.2 mm and 156.3 mm for females and males, respectively, and 79.8% of the mature females was mated. The mean paralarval phase was 28.4 days without seasonal and sex differences. Growth (daily mean ML increment) of squids hatched in the warm season that grew as juveniles and matured in the cold season was higher than the growth of the ones hatched in the cold season. The opposite was observed in squids that hatched in the cold season. According to these results, small sized Illex argentinus that mature, spawn and hatch in southern Brazil in all seasons have a shorter paralarval phase than specimens in higher latitudes. The mixture of small sized squids hatching year round and large sized squid spawning in winter is suggested.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria Juliana Gomes Arandas.pdf: 4922822 bytes, checksum: 148127b0ff232a5523d17669ea5ab23c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-02-20 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Bats have peculiar reproductive aspects that evolved in order to adapt to different environmental and climatic conditions. One of the criteria for the understanding about the reproductive biology in bats is the testicular and epididymal morphophysiology. Molossus molossus and Myotis lavali are insectivorous bats, and studies on the reproductive biology of these species are scarce, especially in the Northeast of Brazil. Therefore, it was analyzed the testicular and epididymal histomorphometry as well as testosterone levels of M. molossus and M. lavali from a fragment of Atlantic Forest located between the cities of Tamandaré and Rio Formoso-PE. In total, 23 adult males of M. molossus were studied, being 10 for dry months and 13 for rainy months. Besides that, 34 adult males of M. lavali were analyzed (22 in dry months and 12 in rainy months). After Anesthesia, blood samples were collected to testosterone dosage. Subsequently, the testicles and epididymides were fixed in 10% buffered formalin, and submitted to the routine histological techniques. For the testicles, the following histomorphometric parameters were evaluated: the tubular and intertubular areas, quantification of spermatocytes, rounded and elongated spermatids, Sertoli cells and Leydig cells, while in the epididymis: the tubular, luminal and epithelial areas from the head, body and tail. The results indicated that M. molossus presented higher averages for the tubular and intertubular areas, rounded and elongated spermatids, Leydig cells and testosterone levels. In the epididymis, the tubular, luminal and epithelial areas were larger in rainy months. On the other hand, M. lavali exhibited increased tubular and intertubular areas, number of elongated spermatids, Sertoli cells, Leydig cells and testosterone levels as well as tubular, luminal and epithelial area of the head and tail of the epididymis during the rainy season. Physiologically, males of both species have a high investment in the final stages of spermatogenesis and in the concentration of testosterone. Furthermore, the two species have a greater capacity to store spermatozoa in the region of the tail of epididymis, which relates to the reproductive strategy developed by bats for storage. Although both species exhibit a continuous spermatogenic cycle, it is noted that they adjust their reproduction for the rainy months.

Biologia reprodutiva comparada de Amphisbaenidae(Squamata, Amphisbaenia) do Brasil / Comparative reproductive biology of Amphisbaenidae (Squamata, Amphisbaenia) from Brazil

Lívia Cristina dos Santos 04 March 2013 (has links)
The reproductive biology of the Amphisbaenia is one of the less known among reptiles. In the literature, there are information on the reproductive cycle, sexual dimorphism, and clutch size for few species, and scarce data on clutches of eggs. Similarly, the histology of the genital tract was studied in few species, which makes difficult to characterize properly the reproductive cycles of males and females. Almost one third of the species of the group occur in Brazil, in regions with different climates. This study aimed to characterize the reproductive cycle of males and females of eleven Brazilian species of the family Amphisbaenidae, based on the dissection and histological analysis of gonads and genital ducts, and to compare the obtained data with regard to the molecular phylogeny already proposed for the Brazilian species of this family. It also aimed to analyze preliminarily the relation between the observed reproductive cycles and seasonal variations of temperature and precipitation. Specimens from zoological collections were analyzed to examination and measuring of the gonads and urogenital organs. Samples of the oviducts, testis, ductus deferens and kidneys from specimens collected in various months were also analyzed using light microscopy to characterize the cycles of spermatogenesis, sperm storage, and activity of the sexual segment of the kidney. Specimens and histology slides of two Blanidae species and one Trogonophidae species were also analyzed, allowing a better discussion of the characteristics of the reproductive cycles referring to the phylogeny of the group. Sexual size dimorphism and clutch size were also analyzed. The males of four Amphisbaenidae species presented aseasonal reproductive cycles, with testicular recrudescence and rest phases not synchronized among individuals. The males of the other seven Amphisbaenidae species, two Blanidae species and one Trogonophidae species presented seasonal reproductive cycles. The seven species for which the reproductive cycles of females could be characterized are seasonal in this regard. The male reproductive cycles were compared considering seasonality and the length of spermatogenesis, sperm storage and secretory activity of the sex segment of the kidney. Evidence of relation between the reproductive cycle characteristics and the phylogeny of the family Amphisbaenidae was obtained. The reproductive seasons of Brazilian Amphisbaenia are longer than those observed in Blanidae e Trogonophidae. Preliminary evidence on the relation between reproductive cycle seasonality and annual variations of temperature were also obtained. Seven Amphisbaenidae species presented sexual dimorphism in snout-vent length or caudal length. Clutch size varies from one to four eggs in most species, but reaches seven eggs in Amphisbaena mertensi and nine in Amphisbaena trachura.

Given that the reproductive and feeding biology of snakes varies geographically, we aimed to characterize the natural history of individuals from the central and southwestern portions of the biome. For this, we analyzed museum-preserved specimens collected in the region between the metropolitan areas of the Brazilian cities of Manaus and Porto Velho. We took morphometric measurements and performed the analysis of gonads and digestive tracts of 109 individuals. Females attain sexual maturity with larger body sizes. Adults of the species show a pronounced sexual dimorphism in body size being females, on average, larger. The reproductive cycle seems to be synchronized with regional rainfall, which differs from that found in other portions of the biome. The species has a generalist diet with the consumption of a wide range of prey such as centipedes, frogs, lizards, snakes and mammals. This study first recorded the predation of the snake Imantodes cenchoa (Dipsadidae) by B. atrox. There is an ontogenetic shift in the diet: smaller individuals feed mainly on ectothermic prey (centipedes, frogs, lizards and snakes), and adults tend to incorporate endothermic items (mammals) to their food repertoire.

Influência da eutrofização do ambiente na transferência trófica de ácidos graxos ao longo do ciclo reprodutivo de peixes com diferentes hábitos alimentares / Influence of environment eutrophication in the trophic transfer of fatty acids throughout the reproductive cycle of fish with different feeding habits

Aline Dal\' Olio Gomes 31 July 2014 (has links)
Contudo, essas alterações parecem ter um efeito menor em espécies carnívoras do que onívoras / The aim of this study was to investigate how the reservoirs eutrophication degree interferes with the trophic transfer of fatty acids (FA) to teleost fish with different feeding habits, relating the major FAs considered biomarkers to their importance in biochemical processes. For this purpose, adult females of Astyanax fasciatus, an omnivorous species, and Hoplias malabaricus, a carnivorous species, were sampled for one year in two reservoirs with different eutrophication degree in the metropolitan region of São Paulo: Ponte Nova, considered a reference reservoir, and the arm Taquacetuba from Billings reservoir, an hypereutrophic site. The FA profile of seston, stomach content and tissue triglycerides (TG) and phospholipids (PL) were analyzed by gas chromatography. As a result of the sestonic FAs profile and of stomach contents, was possible to observe a predominance of n6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), such as C18:2n6 and ARA (arachidonic acid), and FA C18:1n9 in most analyzed tissues of A. fasciatus females from reference reservoir, while there was a higher percentage of n3 HUFAs (highly unsaturated fatty acids), especially EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in tissues of females from hypereutrophic reservoir, resulting in changes in the n3/n6 and EPA/ARA ratios in these animals. The same pattern of FAs deposition can be observed in the tissues of H. malabaricus females, as a result of the FAs profile of its potential prey, A. fasciatus. However, the imbalance of different classes of PUFAs observed between reservoirs appears to be lower, not resulting in changes in the EPA/ARA ratio in these carnivorous animals. Thus, environmental changes interfered with the FAs profile of seston in the fields, and then in the composition of FAs food available to higher trophic levels. This fact reflected in changes in the FAs profile of tissue Tgs and Fls of fish from different environments, and it can interfere in a range of biochemical processes involved with these molecules. On the other hand, these changes seem to have a lower effect in carnivorous species than omnivorous

In most Teleostei the gonadal development is cyclical and follows the annual reproductive seasons. Throughout the female reproductive life the germ cell renewal is constant, and accounts for the unlimited production of ovarian follicles. Here the dynamics of female germ cell renewal, resulting in the formation of ovarian follicles was studied in two different species of Ostariophysi with different reproductive strategies: Serrasalmus maculatus (Characiformes) and Pimelodus maculatus (Siluriformes). The study was based on biometrics, morphometric and histological analysis of gonads, interpreted according to new proposals for the classification of the phases of the reproductive cycle and for the stages of the oocytes development. Additionally, using S. maculatus as a model, we describe the formation of ovarian follicles from the isolated oogonia present in the lamellar epithelium, their proliferation forming cell nests and entrance into meiosis giving rise to the oocytes. The stages of the oocyte development are characterized for both species. S. maculatus with long reproductive period comprising the months of winter and spring (southern hemisphere) has an indeterminate fecundity. In S. maculatus the folliculogenesis is more intense in the Regenerating ovaries, recognized by containing only pre-vitellogenic oocytes, some of them with cortical alveoli. At this time, in the lamellar epithelium the nests with proliferating oogonia are proportionally more numerous than the isolated oogonia. In the Developing ovaries, the nests containing oogonia and those with the early prophase oocytes, are predominate over the isolated oogonia. In them, the part of the pre-vitellogenic oocytes enters and advances in vitellogenesis. In the Spawning Capable ovaries, the number of nests of oogonia and early prophase oocytes is lower compared with other reproductive phases as the isolated oogonia appear more frequently. In these, the late vitellogenic and full-grown oocytes co-occur with pre-vitellogenic ones. The postovulatory follicle complex appear resulting from the release of mature oocytes. In the Regressing ovaries, the resumption of oogonia proliferation is detected by an increase in the number of nests, some of them already containing early prophase oocytes. Atresia of follicles, containing oocytes that were not released, co-occurs with the pre-vitellogenic oocytes. Pimelodus maculatus with a reproductive period concentrated in the summer (southern hemisphere), has a determinate fecundity. Also in this species, the initial events of folliculogenesis in the ovaries are more intense in Regenerating phase, in which only oocytes present are the pre-vitellogenic ones. In the lamellar epithelium the nests containing proliferating oogonia are proportionally more frequent than the isolated oogonia and than the nests containing early prophase oocytes. In the Developing ovaries, the frequency of the number of nests containing oogonia differs statistically from the frequency of nests with oocytes and from the isolated oogonia and in the epithelium. In these gonads of the pre-vitellogenic oocytes enter in vitellogenesis. In the Spawning Capable ovaries, the nests of oogonia and early prophase oocytes appear in a lower number than the isolated oogonia. In them, the full-grown oocytes predominate over those pre-vitellogenic and vitellogenic. In the Regressing ovaries, the resumption of the oogonia proliferation is detected by an increase in the number of nests, some containing early prophase oocytes. Atresia of follicles, containing oocytes that were not released, co-occurs with the pre-vitellogenic / Mestrado / Biologia Celular / Mestre em Biologia Celular e Estrutural

Enyalius perditus and Enyalius iheirngii are two semi-arboreal lizard species that belong to the new family Leiosauridae. These specimens present daytime behavior and are active forragers distributed across the Atlantic Rainforest. E. perditus are found in the Southeast and E. iheringii in the Southeast and South. They also present co- occurrence in some areas at São Paulo state. Despite their wide distribution, little is known about their ecology and even less about the reproductive biology of their genera. The information about the reproductive biology of these animals is scarce on the other hand data regarding courtship behavior, mating season, spawning and offspring birth is virtually absent. For this, this study investigated the reproductive strategy of both species through the dissection of animals from scientific collections, captivity and field collections. In E.iheringii males and females reached sexual maturity in similar sizes. Both species are more abundant during the rainy season than in the dry season. Cycle of females of E. iheringii appear more extended and there is possibility of males stocking the spermatozoa in the vas deferens throughout the year. Females of E. iheringii were found stocking sperm during the spring in the infundibulum and in the fall within the storage crypts of the uterine-vaginal junction. In E. perditus females reproduction is highly seasonal and occurs during the hottest and wettest periods of the year.

Influência do ciclo reprodutivo na biologia termal de Crotalus durissus neotropical (Serpentes, Viperidae) em cativeiro / Influence of the reproductive cycle on the thermal biology of Crotalus durissus Neotropical (Serpentes, Viperidae) in captivity

Snakes are ectothermic animals capable of modifying their thermoregulatory behavior and consequently their body temperature to optimize the performance of certain activities, among them, reproduction. According to several studies, reproduction is one of the physiological factors most influenced by the selection of body temperature in Squamata. Reproductive females of many species have shown gestational thermophily. This behavior has corroborated the hypothesis of maternal manipulation of the optimum temperature for embryonic development, therefore, the female assures the phenotype of offspring and their reproductive success. Here we investigate the influence of reproductive status on the thermal biology of Crotalusdurissus females in semiextensive captivity. For this, internal temperature sensors (dataloggers) were inserted surgically in the coelomic cavity of pregnant and non-pregnant females. Data analyzes demonstrated that pregnant females maintained significantly higher mean body temperature than non-pregnant females in the summer. However, the body temperature variation of pregnant females does not differ from non-pregnant females. The most frequently cited benefit on the evolution of viviparity is that pregnant females can accelerate embryonic development through thermoregulation. The elevation and stability of body temperature during pregnancy have been considered the primordial mechanism to ensure the embryonic development. Thus, it increases the fitness of offspring and ensures the viability of the clutch. The data presented here, demonstrate that the reproductive condition of pregnant females of Crotalus durissus has great influence on the selection of higher temperatures, corroborating with the hypothesis that females alter the thermoregulatory behavior when they are pregnant.

Excreção de Brucella abortus, estirpe B19 pelo leite e urina de fêmeas bovinas de diferentes faixas etárias vacinadas contra brucelose e sua relação com o ciclo reprodutivo / Excretion of Brucella abortus, B19 strain in milk and urine samples from female bovine of several ages, vaccinated against brucellosis and your relation with reproductive cycle

Pacheco, Wanessa de Andrade 22 August 2007 (has links)
The National Program of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Control and Eradication (PNCEBT) designed by MAPA (Ministério da Agricultura Pecuária e Abastecimento) adapted as the central of vaccination by law with B19 the of all females of bovine and bubaline species, between three and eight months of age. However the B19 should be capable of verifying 65 - 70% of protection against a large number of levels of exposition of bovines if utilized in the correct dose and age recommended the period of excretion and your effect about communicant animals and bound to included men but are still not well known and for the subject of biovaccines of a high infectious should be watchful for the role of zoonotic in the handling of animals that?s eliminate these vaccines. This studies evaluated the excretion of B19 strain in milk and urine of 14 bovine females the different ages that was immunized at three and eight months of age originated from heads of milky exploration, based on the bacteriologic tests and polymerize chain reaction (PCR) diagnoses correlated with hormonal fases of complete reproductive cycle. All of positive samples in PCR for Brucella spp. was confirmed for B19 strain being its excretion predominantly at moment of cio about 150 pregnant days and the pos parturition (30 days) or else independently the hormonal fase. The persistence and excretion of B19 was observed in bovine females until nine years old.
