Abstract: This work, the objective is to evaluate application of Bayesian methods in multiple-trait animal models. Records from 54.182 Nellore males were used for estimation of variance components for: a) weight standardized ages of 120 (W120), 210 (W210), 365 (W365), 450 (W450) and 550 (W550) days; b) scrotal circumference at age-standard from 365 (EC365), 450 (EC450) and 550 (EC550); c) weight gains between the standardized ages of 120/210 (WG1), 210/365 (WG2), 365/450 (WG3) e 450/550 (WG4)e; d) scrotal growth in the intervals 365/450 (EG1) and 450/550 (EG2). Analyses were performed using the GIBBS2F90, assuming a multiple-trait animal model. The direct heritability estimates were 0,17; 0,19; 0,13; 0,15; 0,33; 0,19; 0,23; 0,24; 0,35; 0,37; 0,39; 0,52; 0,56; e;0,48 for WG1, WG2, WG3, WG4, EG1, EG2, W120, W210, W365, W450, W550, EC365, EC450 and EC550, respectively. The correlations values was ranging from -0,025 (between WG3 and EC550) to 0,97 (between EC450 and EC550) to genetics. It was found that the standard features in ages show greater genetic variability that measures interval, which indicates how the criteria of selection that would better meet the selection. Regarding the implementation of the Bayesian method in multi-model features, there was efficient despite the small number of effective samples generated in some parameters, indicating the need for a greater number of interactions. / Mestre

Diabete melito referida: incidência e preditores, em coorte de idosos domiciliados no município de São Paulo: Estudo SABE - Saúde, Bem-estar e Envelhecimento / Reported Diabetes: incidence and predict in cohort eldery people, resident in the city of São Paulo SABE Survey: Health, Wellbeing and AgingAlmeida, Manuela Ferreira de 15 September 2010 (has links)
Conclusão: De todas as variáveis analisadas, apenas a gordura abdominal constituiu fator de risco para incidência da doença, no período de 6 anos / The incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased, mainly in aged persons. Epidemiological evidences show that obesity and abdominal fat constitute risk factor for development of DM. Objective: To verify the association the incidence of DM with obesity and abdominal fat, in cohort of elderly domiciled in São Paulo / Brazil - 2000 and 2006. Casuistic and methods: It were analized data of the SABE Survey, a longitudinal, epidemiologic and household based study, carried in the city of São Paulo, in 2000 (2,143 elderlies) and 2006 (1,115 elderlies). The study population was constituted by aged ( 60 years), of both gender, selected by probabilist sample, who did not reported DM, in 2000, with all necessary data to this study. The analized variables were: reported DM, with dicotomic answer (yes or no), obesity, by body mass index - BMI 30 kg/m², abdominal fat (waist circunference - WC 88 cm, for women, and 102 cm, for men; and waist-to-hip ratio WHR 1, for men, and 0.85, for women) and socio-demographics characterstics (gender, age group, educational status and home company). To verify the association among the variables, it was applied the Rao Scott test, for complex samples, multiple logistic regression (p<0.05) and statistical software Stata/SE 10.0 for Windows. Results: Out of the 1,115 elderlies, it were re-assessed 914, being 72 as new cases of DM (7.7 per cent /1,000 people/year). It was verified that a greater proportion (58 per cent ) of the subjects who reported DM, was Manuela F. de Almeida composed by females. Even though obesity was positively associated to reported DM, WHR (OR=2.33; IC=1.47-3.77) and WC (OR= 2.32; IC=1.44-3.67) were predictors for DM. Conclusion: Of all variables analized, only abdominal fat was considered risk factor for the incidence of this disease, in a period of 6 years

Periodontitis and Metabolic Syndrome (MS) may be associated with systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, and a relationship between them may exist. The purpose of this study was to investigate the periodontal status of non-diabetic patients with MS, and determine whether the periodontal status is consistent with the values of the metabolic components of MS. We examined 165 non-diabetic patients with MS and 64 non-diabetic patients without MS (patients without MS were divided into two groups: group periodontal healthy and group with Severe Periodontitis). It were used the most recent definition by International Diabetes Federation in 2005. Patients with MS, excluded edentulous individuals, were 14,8% periodontally healthy, 40,7% with Moderate Periodontitis and 44,4% with Severe Periodontitis. Between the metabolic components of the MS group, only the Body Mass Index(BMI) of the individuals with non-severe Periodontitis was significantly higher than the Severe Periodontitis and edentulous individuals. The Severe Periodontitis extension and severity in patients with or without MS were similar. Patients with MS and Severe Periodontitis have glycemic, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and BMI significantly greater than patients without MS with Severe Periodontitis. The group without MS and with Severe Periodontitis showed significantly different HDL and waist circumference values than periodontally healthy without MS group. In conclusion, Severe Periodontitis is similar in individuals with or without MS. Patients with Severe Periodontitis without diagnostic of MS should be encouraged to their primary care physician for blood glucose tests.

The aging process shows changes in the anthropometric profile, such as the increase of total body fat, reduction of stature and lean mass, which alters the distribution of body fat and, therefore, modifies the sensitivity to the action of insulin and causes insulin resistance (IR). Body mass index (BMI) is a traditional anthropometric measure for assessing body composition and association with cardiovascular risk. However, in the elderly, BMI is an inaccurate indicator in the study of body fat distribution, and it is necessary to adopt new anthropometric indices to assess nutritional status and association with cardiometabolic risk. The IR, characterized by progressive decline of the physiological response of peripheral tissues to the action of normal levels of insulin, is a frequent finding in chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and systemic arterial hypertension (SAH), which are prevalent in the elderly population. Objective: The general objective of the present study is to describe the anthropometric and metabolic profile of elderly people assisted in primary health care and to study their association with cardiovascular risk factors. Methods: Four hundred and four elderly (304 women) assisted in the primary care of the city of Niterói, RJ, were evaluated. Anamnesis, social data collection, clinical examination, anthropometric measurements and body composition evaluation through electrical bioimpedance (BIA) were performed by the same evaluator. The laboratory tests were analyzed from a blood sample collected for fasting to evaluate the metabolic profile. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation, Student's test and Mann Whitney test, with a significant p <0.05. The ROC curve evaluated the performance of the anthropometric measures in the identification of IR and the diagnostic criteria of the Metabolic Syndrome (MS). Results: The prevalence of MS was high in the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III), International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Joint Interim Statement (JIS). The median body weight (76.1kg vs 66.5kg, p <0.01), neck circumference (NC) (39.4cm vs 33.5cm, p <0.01), waist circumference (WC) (99.9cm vs 94cm, p <0.01) and the waist/hip ratio (WHR) (1 vs 0.93, p <0.01) were higher in males. The percentage of body fat (%GC) and hip circumference (HC) were higher in females (100.9cm vs 97.1cm, p <0.01). The NC showed a strong correlation with WC (r = 0.70, p <0.01) in males and with BMI in females (r = 0.72, p <0.01). In the ROC curve, NC and WC showed the best correlation with IR in female sex and WC followed by BMI in male. Conclusion: The elderly population studied had a high prevalence of MS. The %GC was higher in females and the indicators of central obesity, such as NC and WC, were higher in males. NC has been shown to be an anthropometric measure of central obesity and predictor of IR, which can be used in association with WC in assessment of cardiovascular risk in the elderly assisted in primary care

Previous issue date: 2015-09-25 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / Introduction: Among the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases are
high blood pressure (hypertension), obesity and insulin resistance (IR).
Studies show that blood pressure (BP) increases progressively with an
increase of the body mass index (BMI) and in individuals with increased waist
circumference (WC), they have a higher risk of developing hypertension, IR
and other metabolic disorders since childhood. Objective: To evaluate the
correlation between RI, WC and BMI in adolescents with altered levels of
PA. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a representative sample of 1025
adolescents aged 12 to 17 years enrolled in public and private schools in a
large city. Two groups were evaluated, one formed by the PA that had
changed the assessment by casual measurement and / or Home Blood
Pressure Measurement (HBPM) and another group formed by those with
normal BP. Evaluated anthropometric indicators for BMI and WC calculation.
Classified as abnormal blood pressure those with BP percentile> 90 on
casual measurement and / or HBPM. Measured fasting plasma glucose and
plasma insulin using the HOMA-IR index as indicative of RI. Results: We
studied 162 adolescents (35 normal BP group and 127 of the amended BP
group) and 61.1% (n = 99) boys, mean age 14.9 ± 1.62 years. Observed 38
children (23.5%) with abnormal HOMA-IR index. Teenagers with altered BP
had significantly higher mean values of WC, BMI and HOMA-IR (p <0.05).
The WC was higher in boys in both groups (p <0.05), and only changed the
BP group was observed HOMA-IR values higher among girls (p <0.05). The
correlation between BMI and HOMA-IR in altered pressure group, was
moderate and significant (ρ = 0.394; p <0.001), higher than that found in the
normal pressure group. The correlation between WC and HOMA-IR was also
significant and moderate and similar in both groups (ρ = 0.345; p = <0.05). In
HOMA-IR logistic regression analysis was predictor of change in BP (OR =
2.0 / p = 0.001).Conclusion: There is a significant association between RI
and PA with impact since childhood. The correlation and association between
cardiovascular risks markers observed stronger in the amended BP group
suggests that primary prevention measures such risk factors should be
implemented early.
Avaliados
meninas (p<0.05).
encontrado no grupo pressão normal.
A correlação e
implementadas precocemente.

Diabete melito referida: incidência e preditores, em coorte de idosos domiciliados no município de São Paulo: Estudo SABE - Saúde, Bem-estar e Envelhecimento / Reported Diabetes: incidence and predict in cohort eldery people, resident in the city of São Paulo SABE Survey: Health, Wellbeing and AgingManuela Ferreira de Almeida 15 September 2010 (has links)
