Adnan, Sonia, Nhaily, Abir, Wang, Hongyu January 2018 (has links)
Nowadays the companies want to make sure that they have strong resources that can face the rapid changes in the environment. One of the most important resources is human resources. The interest of the companies to have committed employees have been increased because there is a big difference between the performance of committed employees and the rest of the employees. Committed employees perform well in the organization and help the organization to grow and face the competitive environment. Based on this, this research aims to evaluate and study the relationship between organizational commitment and individual performance. To do this one of the Multinational corporation(MNC) is selected, this MNC is the Japanese company Kansai Paint who has one subsidiary in Pakistan. The theoretical model of this study was formulated based on one dependent variable which is the individual performance and three independent variables which are an affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment. The data of the research was collected by questionnaires which sent to 100 employees on Kansai Paint in Pakistan, and SPSS testing was used to analyze the data. The finding of the study exposed that the affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment have a positive impact on the individual performance. At the end of the research, the conclusion of the research was drawn and several of recommendations were developed.

The role of self-efficacy in employee commitment

Hurter, Nelia 31 July 2008 (has links)
Committed employees are increasingly becoming a valued asset in organisations. For the purpose of this study employee commitment is viewed as commitment to the organisation as well as employees' commitment to their occupations. The purpose of the research was to determine whether there is a correlation between perceived self-efficacy and employee commitment in a South African sugar manufacturing company. Self-efficacy, a social cognition construct, which refers to a person's self-beliefs in his/her ability to perform specific tasks, has been shown to be a reliable predictor of both motivation and task performance and to influence personal goal setting. Despite this, little attention has been given to its organisational implications. The General Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (GSE), and an Employee Commitment (CM) questionnaire based on the Conversion Model were used as measuring tools. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive correlation between self-efficacy and employee commitment (Ambassador, Career oriented, Company oriented). Uncommitted employees show a lower level of self-efficacy. The implications of these results are discussed. Further research from a predictive validity perspective is suggested in order to substantiate the findings and to improve the generalisability thereof. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.Com. The relationship between organisational commitment, retention factors and perceived job embeddedness

Van Dyk, Jeannette 11 1900 (has links)
The objectives of the study were: (1) to determine the relationship between organisational commitment (measured by the Organisational Commitment Scale), retention factors (measured the Retention Factor Scale) and job embeddedness (measured by the Job Embeddedness Questionnaire), and (2) to determine whether employees from different gender, age, race, marital status, tenure and job level groups differ significantly in their levels of organisational commitment, retention factors and perceived job embeddedness. A quantitative survey was conducted on a purposive sample (N = 206) of medical and IT service staff in the South African client service sector. Correlational and inferential statistical analyses revealed significant relationships between organisational commitment, retention factors and perceived job embeddedness. Significant differences between gender, age, race, marital status, tenure and job level groups were also found. The findings contribute valuable insight and knowledge to the field of Career Psychology that can be applied in the retention of employees in the medical and IT industry. The study concludes with recommendations for future research and practice. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / (M.Comm. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology))

How transformational leadership influences organisational learning capability, psychologial contract and performance : a mixed methodology research in a Thai case study

Keawchaum, Supannee January 2017 (has links)
This study aims to contribute to our understanding of how transformational leadership (TFL) influences organisational learning capability (OLC), psychological contract and performance, as well as the process by which OLC and psychological contract mediate the relationship between TFL and performance. These concepts are widely studied in the western context. This study also aims to examine how applicable these concepts are to a nonwestern context. This study furthermore focuses on investigating two sample groups, namely subordinates and managers, who represent the employee as well as the employer perspective, in contrast to the vast majority of existing works which focus only on one of these two perspectives. This study selected a mixed-methodology case study as its research methodology. This study selected a market-leading company in the consumer-electronics business in Thailand for its single case study, in order to investigate the contextual dimension through in-depth analysis, particularly looking at the relationship and friendship culture emphasised in Thai culture, which is ignored in the western context. The mixed-methodology approach, including quantitative and qualitative methodologies, is utilised. The quantitative research focuses on surveys. In the qualitative research, semi-structured interviews are conducted, together with observations and documentary analysis. The findings reveal that TFL directly influences OLC, psychological contract and performance. However, the challenge comes when we seek links in the research with OLC and work performance. This study suggests that the TFL concept based on Bass (1985) may not be entirely applicable to the Asian context. This research found instead that managers who support only the development of their subordinates' competence cannot be expected to enhance performance. It is important for managers to engender commitment in subordinates. The relationship between managers and followers is a significant factor for performance improvement. If the relationship between managers and subordinates is good, they will help each other to achieve their goals. Therefore, this study suggests that, in applying the TFL concept to the Asian culture, the definition of TFL should be changed to focus not only on the development of subordinates' competence, but also their commitment. This research suggests that HR plays a key role in the organisation by developing managers so that they feel effective enough to develop their subordinates. This research also identifies that senior management has a powerful role to play in reinforcing trust and loyalty to the employees.

Internal social responsibility and comprometimento organizacional: a comparative study in pertaining to the state of Cearà companies / Responsabilidade social interna e comprometimento organizacional: um estudo comparativo em empresas cearenses

Cristiane SabÃia Barros 01 March 2007 (has links)
nÃo hà / This work aimed to investigate the existing links between the Internal Social Responsibiliy (ISR) and the Organizational Commitment. The practices on the Internal Social Responsibility considered herein were the social indications from ETHOS Institute of Companies and Social Responsibility, focusing the following points: dialogues and participation; human respect and decent work (ETHOS, 2006). This study has taken use of a documental and exploratory research(CERVO; BERVIAN, 1983). The research bibliography approached the social responsibility according to Ashley (2003), Mcintosh et al. (2001), Oliveira (2002), Srour (2003), and the organizational commitment with the authors Bastos et al. (1997), Bonavides, Oliveira e Medeiros (2006), Medeiros et al. (2005), Meyer e Herscovitch (2001). The documental research was a base for the research samples and for the identification of the developed actions held by the companies. The present research was done in two big companies in the areas of services: the sewage and water company in Cearà State(CAGECE) and Guanabara Transportation Company(GUANABARA), both winners of Delmiro Gouveia Award in social responsibility and in the social performance category. The data collection was done through a methodology of survey application divided in: elaboration of data collection, a series of ordered questions with three sets of RSI indices, and three bases of organizational commitment, where it was used Liket scale of variation from one to five to the answers. The questionnaire was answered by hand and was applied with two hundred and twenty operational level employees, divided in an equable way in the two companies. The presentation methods and the analysis of data expanded in three blocks: the first deals with the profile of the interviewees out of an arithmetic average and relative attendances; the second presents the main analysis of components through the factorial analysis which present the principal actions in RSI which produced commitment; and the third block deals with a comparative analysis involving the two companies. As instruments of process it was used the SPSS and the Excel programs. The results obtained in this research show that the internal social responsibility has a great influence in the organization commitment of the workers. The actions of the internal social responsibility which most influence in the expected commitment have a lot to do with the social index dialogue and participation, model quoted by Valladares, Leal Filho and Roman(2005); (GuimarÃes and Borges, Marques and Adorno(2005), and the model of commitment generated by these actions is the affectivity.

The notion of commitment in selected works of Maishe Maponya

Moorosi, Mabitle January 1998 (has links)
This study is a critical analysis of selected works of the playwright Maishe Maponya namely, The Hungry Earth, Jika and Gangsters. The main thrust of the analysis of the thesis is centred on questions around what 'Commitment' might mean in literature and drama. This concept has appeared in many names and guises. In theatre, it has assumed names like Theatre of Commitment, Theatre of the Dispossessed, Theatre ofthe Oppressed, Theatre of Resistance, as well as Theatre of Radicalization (Bentley 1968; Boal 1974; Mda 1985; Maponya 1992). These names came into existence as a result of a concerted effort to refrain from the use of the traditional conventional theatre, which does not appear to address itself to societal problems - the preoccupation of Theatre of Commitment. Chapter One is principally concerned with the concept of Commitment and its implications in art and literature, more specifically in theatre. Further, the following interacting elements in South African theatre are highlighted: censorship, banning, detention and other restrictions, as well as DET education and religious institutions. Finally, Maponya is introduced, with his political inclinations and his views on art, together with the issue of theatricality in his plays. Chapter two initiates the proposed critical analysis with a focus on The Hungry Earth. The focus is on Theatre of Commitment and the background events that inspired Maponya's response. Chapter three concerns itself with the critical analysis of Jika, "a play about the making of revolutionaries in South Africa ... and serves a political purpose - as a recording of pivotal moment in South African history ... " (Haysom, 1988: 1). An attempt is made to assess the extent to which the playwright has succeeded or failed to strike a chord harmonious with the pronouncements quoted. Chapter four ends the critical analysis with the treatment of Gangsters. Here an observation is made on the fusing of the three personas, namely Rasechaba, Biko and Maponya, into one symbolic whole representing the image of Jesus Christ on the cross - the Saviour who sacrificed His life for the salvation of sinners. Maponya is seen to have sacrificed his time and energy for the liberation of the downtrodden. The conclusion summarizes the study by placing the selected works in their suitable perspective in respect of the notion of Commitment in literature, with particular reference to theatre. Maponya is seen to have played a commendable role in the liberation of his peoples' minds by teaching them the business of organizing revolutions, as well as by championing the liberation struggle.

Organisational commitment after a transformation process at a provincial government department

Basson, Bruce Ahswin January 2008 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc (Medical BioSciences) / Organisations are by nature, dynamic entities that continuously undergo transformation in response to both internal and external pressures, which are imposed on them (Robbins, Odendaal & Roodt, 2003). Government departments are by no means immune to these changes, which pose challenges that affect their service delivery. During periods of fundamental transformation, individuals typically experience changes in their levels of organisational commitment, which impacts on effective and efficient service delivery. Organisational commitment as an area of research is one of the factors that could lead to greater morale, strong organisational climate, motivation and productivity in many organisations facing transformation (Salami, 2008). The aim of this study was to investigate the level of organisational commitment after a transformation process at a Provincial Government Department. Recent organisational transformations (both in the private and public sector) have included the redrawing of divisional boundaries, flattening of hierarchic levels, spreading of spans of control, revising compensation, streamlining processes and reforming governance (Ndlovu & Brijball Parusumar, 2005). The results of the research indicate that employees are moderately committed to the organisation. Statistically significant relationships were found between the dimensions of organisational commitment, except for affective commitment and total commitment which were not significant. Furthermore, results indicate that statistically significant differences exist based on the biographical characteristics (namely, gender, race, tenure, marital status, age and job level) but these characteristics do not significantly explain the variance in organisational commitment for this organisation. A limitation of the research is that the sampling composition and research design preclude the results of this study being generalised to other organisations and it is recommended that a stratified random sampling design be utilised for future research. / South Africa
