Ruda, Sonja 21 December 2013 (has links)
Chat rooms are frequently used for communication, exchange of information or discussions. Thus it is obvious to employ this popular communication room in tuition and consultation meetings for examination preparation as well. Between the winter term 2009/2010 and the summer term 2012, 13 chat teaching sessions were conducted as part of the Bachelor’s and Magister’s course in Communication on Technology and the Magister degree program in Applied Linguistics at Chemnitz University of Technology. 5 consultation meetings via chat were conducted to prepare written and oral Magister’s examinations. No. of bitstreams: 1 Bernardo Queiroz de Siqueira Santos.pdf: 6540108 bytes, checksum: 15368e1418e5230caf9a2a425ae11632 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-12-05 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / What are the traits that predominate in cinema on the present context of digital communication technologies? This PHD thesis proposed a study of what we define as reloaded Cinema, a denomination that refers to the transformation phenomena that affected movies in the beginning of the 21st century, based on the complexities that emerge from the highly integrated communicational processes of the media. That phenomenon is based on the interactions between the networked media environment, the potentials unlocked by the digitalization processes and the relationships with users. The Corpus of this study is composed by audio-visual projects that question and expand the limits of what is cinema, in the sense that was conceived previously. This reload of Cinema is a complex network, composed by the articulations of material, cognitive, linguistic, cultural and multimedia elements. Our method is composed by three stages 1) defining what this reloaded phenomenon is by the selection of those audio-visual projects that undermine the limits of established Cinema; 2) evaluate those projects through proceedings of localization, description and analysis; 3) Organize a synthesis of their properties and propose evaluative schema for cinematic works. Adopting the Complexity Thought proposed by Morin, we affirm that the Reloaded Cinema does not exist as an hegemonic, monolithic and isolated element, but as a communicational phenomenon inserted in culture, that emerges from between users, devices and software mediations. Under this perspective, we avoid determinisms and recognize the intrinsic paradoxes of Cinema in the digital age. Our hypothesis is that the reconfigurations (or reload) of cinema can be found on a) interactions between connected technologies of vision and it´s users through various mobile-imagedevices, like Virtual and Augmented Reality systems; b) on the emerging possibilities of creational processes generated by cinema´s connections and compatibility with Online Networks and Digitized databases, such as collaborative films and AI-oriented screenwriting; c) in mutations on construction of filmic time and space, influencing cinematographic language; d) contaminations of Cinema with other Network-Connected media, and it´s consequences on contemporary culture, where the limits between cinema and other media becomes blurry and overlapped. The results of this research are a map of the present reloaded stage of Cinema, both in the sense of audio-visual experimentation as an overview of its emerging potentials of creative processes, modes of experience and integrations with communication environments of contemporary culture / Quais as características que predominam no cinema no contexto das tecnologias digitais de comunicação?

Exploring a Technological Hermeneutic: Understanding the Interpretation of Computer-Mediated Messaging Systems

Voida, Amy 19 May 2008 (has links)
Empirical evidence suggests that individuals can hold different interpretations of a technology. In this research, I explore the question of where these different interpretations come from. What influences an individual s interpretation of a technology? And what is the nature of these interpretations? I explore these questions through studies of computer-mediated messaging systems, including instant messaging, photo-enhanced instant messaging, multimedia messaging (cameraphones), and mobile messaging (BlackBerries). In this research, I draw from philosophical hermeneutics, a domain of study examining the nature of interpretation, and present a technological hermeneutic, a descriptive theory of how individuals interpret technology how they come to understand the meaning of the technology in their own lives. This theory offers insight into the myriad resources individuals draw from when constructing an interpretation of technology, including their own experiences with related technologies as well as their interactions with others use and understanding of the technology. This theory also offers insight into the nature of the interpretive process. Interpretations are dynamic and evolving; individuals continually draw from new experiences, reengaging and reinterpreting technology. Interpretations are also hybrid and synthesized; individuals draw from multiple resources in an active process of interpretive bricolage.

The status of usage of information technology systems within campuses of the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing

Maharaj, Sangeetha 10 March 2015 (has links)
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements of the degree in Masters of Technology in Nursing, Durban University of Technology, 2014. / Background The rapid growth in information and communication technology (ICT) in the 21st century has impacted all spheres of human activity, including the health sector. The change introduced by ICT requires educational institutions to relook at the way in which they develop and implement their education programmes. In contemporary clinical practice environments, ICT skills are providing benefits for nurses as well as for the patients they care for. Aim The aim of the study was to investigate the status of usage of ICT by academic staff, students and administrators within campuses of the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing which consists of 11 main campuses and 14 sub-campuses. Methodology A quantitative, cross sectional study was conducted which included academic staff, administrative staff, and students (R425 and R212) of the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing. A random sample of 576 individuals participated in the study consisting of academic staff (176); administrative staff (30) and students (340). Participants completed a questionnaire that established their demographic data and ICT usage. Results The questionnaire response rate was academic staff (80%), students (89%) and administrative staff (93%). The findings showed that while respondents were able to manage work related activities; they experienced poor access to computer training with 66% indicating they had access to computer training. The access to computer training for the administrative staff was 50%, with 8% of rural and 1% of urban students having access to training. The majority of academic staff have access to desktop computers with there still being a divide in terms of rural access as compared to urban access p=0.24. Significantly more administrative staff had access to desktop computers than those who do not p<.0005. The access to desktop computers for students was low, with 22% of respondents in both rural and urban campuses indicating that they have access. Access to the internet was low for all respondent groups with a significant difference between those who have access compared to those who do not have access p=<.0005, for both the academic and student groups. There is a low use of ICT for the purposes of teaching and learning with the majority of respondents (60%) indicating that they do not use ICT for teaching compared to those who do p=.0007. All respondent groups have experienced poor ICT support with the majority indicating that they do not receive ICT support p=<.0005. The usage of the online library was low for all groups, with 61% of academic staff, not accessing the online library for reasons of access, or knowledge about the library, 23% of urban students and 20% of rural students have indicated ever using the online library. Conclusion The study highlights the need for the KZNCN to be on par with higher education institutions globally in access to and usage of ICT. Benchmarking with higher education institutions in the health and other sectors is essential, in order for the KZNCN to benefit from the trend in incorporating technology into the teaching and learning process. Strong collaboration is necessary between the KZNCN as an academic institution and clinical health facilities to ensure that the developments in ICT within both sectors are reflected in the teaching and learning process, so that graduating nurses are able to function effectively. Clear policy documents and guidelines are required for the KZNCN which reflect the norms required for both ICT equipment and systems to enable functioning of the institution within an increasingly technological environment.
