Reliability evaluation of the two bus interface controllers in the Darlington simulator

Le, Dong Khanh 01 January 2010 (has links)
The Darlington simulator is now two decades old and, in common with any nuclear simulator of a similar age, suffers the problem of parts aging and obsolescence. In the past, replacement parts were available from the original vendor, Canadian Aviation Electronics. This is no longer an option, as the vendor has shown no interest in continuing to supply spare parts. Over the years, the Simulator Services Department has undertaken several projects. These projects were carried out aiming at different goals: (i) solving the problem with spare parts scarcity, (ii) modifying the simulator to adapt it to increased usage requirements, or (iii) upgrading the simulator to improve its reliability. One such project is the re-design of the Bus Interface Controller used in the I/O system of the simulator. The Bus Interface Controller is probably the most important piece of hardware in the whole I/O system. As such, it is important that reliability evaluation of the new design be carried out. Reliability has become increasingly important in the design of engineering systems. The key factor driving this is the demand of the customers [6]. The Darlington simulator usage time has always been consistently high, sometimes reaching the level of continuous use during some periods of the past years. The increase usage requirement creates a demand for higher availability, while the allocated maintenance time has been cut back substantially. The only way to meet this demand is to have better designs, where reliability consideration and evaluation are incorporated into the design cycle. Following this design methodology, during the early design cycle of the new Ethernet Bus Interface Controller, an analysis was done to evaluate its reliability. This report presents the details of the analysis and compares the reliability of the new design with the existing one. / UOIT

Controller programming with CoDeSys for an automated timber sorting system

Breitholtz, Nils January 2010 (has links)
This report describes the development of weight measurement application and transducer positioning for the A Sort prototype that has been developed for automatic grading and sorting of timber. The prototype consists of a transportation system with hydraulic and electrical motors, a measurement system with laser scanners and acoustic measurement equipment and a control program for the automated process with CoDeSys. The objective was to integrate these parts in an automatic system process, controlling a prototype designed for acoustic measurement of logs. The devices were installed and configured to communicate via an existing fieldbus line using CANopen as communication protocol. A control program was made for each task and implemented in the control process for the automatic measurement of logs. Two load cells were installed beneath a moving tilt and the measurement equipment was tested and calibrated using three different logs with known weight. The testing showed that in order to get higher accuracy the construction needs to be modified. Photo cells were installed on the measurement frames and a program was made in order to make the acoustic measurement of the logs work properly.

Lika eller inte, det är frågan... : En studie om controllerns och CFO:ns arbetsuppgifter

Thorén, Josefina, Andersson, Emili January 2012 (has links)

Implement a loading sharing mechanism of using VoIP service behind NAT

Chen, Chi-ying 04 September 2005 (has links)
At beginning of this paper, it will introduce the SIP protocol major used on the VoIP service at present time. Introduce the development and the application of SIP. And then explain the operation of the SIP protocol by an example. Explain how a SIP client establish the communication with another one by the SIP proxy. After understanding the operation of the SIP, explain why the SIP client behind NAT will meet the fail and introduce the solutions that have developed to conquer the fail. Briefly describe each of these solutions and compare all of them. Next is to describe how the solution of statteful SIP proxy used to avoid the fail of NAT changes the behavior between the SIP clients from end-to-end to master-to-slave. The change of behavior between the SIP clients may affect the quality of the communication in some conditions. To improve this, this paper brings out an idea and implements it. Finally, test the quality of the communication, catch the packet carrying the SIP messages and packet of RTP, and watch the content of SIP messages and the routing of the RTP packet.

Design of Intelligent Air Conditioner Controller Using Power Line Carrier Technology

Wu, Wei-Jun 06 July 2009 (has links)
This thesis develops a peers-to-peers intelligent air conditioner (A/C) controller which integrates the power line carrier technology and the infrared remote control. The intelligent air conditioner controller is used for the remote temperature setting and load control of air conditioner without requesting extra communication line and modification of the control circuit in the A/C unit. With the A/C controller developed the demand response in residential and commercial areas can be achieved effectively by reducing the peak power demand of A/C units. In order to investigate the PLC signal transmission over the low voltage distribution lines, the mathematical model of low voltage distribution system under high carrier signal frequency is derived. The computer simulation is executed to analyze the transmission characteristics of power line carrier signal. The proposed controller can receive the command issued by the demand response control center over the distribution lines with carrier frequency to execute the remote temperature setting of A/C units. Based on the field measurement of energy by air conditioner, it is found that significantly power demand reduction of air conditioner has been resulted by applying the proposed controller for remote temperature setting of air conditioner.

Buy versus Develop: A NAND Flash Controller Case Study

Budd, Chris 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2014 Conference Proceedings / The Fiftieth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 20-23, 2014 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, CA / The decision to buy or develop any system component is a difficult one. Clearly, the development time and cost is less when using an off-the-shelf component; however, these components attempt to meet the requirements of a main-stream market segment. Outside of those markets, a designer may need to add unique features to solve problems for specialty markets; one example is SSDs for telemetry markets where one critical component is the NAND flash controller. This paper will focus on some of the requirement differences and why it is so important for SSD designers to develop their own controller for these markets.
