The thesis begins by discussing the process of urbanisation in nineteenth-century Scotland, the nature of urban social problems and housing as an urban issue. However, the major concern of the research has been to examine how most people consumed housing in Dundee between 1868 and 1919, a period when the dominant form of provision - private landlordism - underwent crisis. A major time-slice has been taken for Dundee in 1911, using the valuation rolls, allowing the tenure pattern to be mapped and the pattern of ownership and management to be analysed. Tensions arising from the landlord-tenant relationship and tenure distinctions are highlighted, including the missive system, evictions and the rent crises of 1912 and 1915. Local government activity has been examined, especially the powers vested in local officials and the actions they took, particularly in the way this affected landlords, factors and tenants. The nature and form of slum crusades as a response to the perceived, failure of the urban environment is discussed. The changes in policy, which led to the first state-aided council, housing scheme in Scotland, have been researched. Finally the thesis turns to living space and examines the connections between women, planning and the home. Overall the thesis is intended to be a major contribution to the social history and social geography of Dundee.

<p> This research paper studies the urban phenomena of cooperative housing in Canada. A political economy approach is used in this documentation of the delivery of the Women's Community Cooperative in Hamilton, Ontario. The focus of this paper is upon the individual members of the Innovative Housing Group, and how their collective actions enabled them to deliver this unique housing service. Individual members of the delivery group were studied to determine how political circumstances influenced their decision to create the Innovative Housing Group. They were also studied to determine what characteristics of their collective group enabled them to deliver the cooperative. Present day members of the cooperative were studied to determine how they view cooperative living and to see if involvement and participation was occurring within the cooperative organization. This study is relevant to urban geography as it shows how individuals may take control over their environment and with collective action overcome strong political, social, and economic forces to produce alternative housing types such as cooperatives.</p> / Thesis / Candidate in Philosophy

By-laws of a cooperative Abstract My Master's degree thesis contents of seven chapters, each of them dealing with the by-laws of a cooperative, but each of them different preview. Reason, why I decided wrote this thesis, is that this area of law allows many different modifications. These modification are important for existence a cooperative, member of a cooperative and other people, which act with a cooperative. Other reason, why I decide wrote this thesis, is that a cooperatives are different from other companies. The aim of first chapter of my thesis is introducing a cooperative such as the term - a cooperative is company business entity, where usually member's personal liability is limited by amount of contribution, his history and principles, which are bases of a cooperative. The second chapter explaines that by-laws are contract concluded between members of cooperative and this concludation is process "sui generis". They have nature such as "constitution" for the cooperative and as Memorandum of Association for other companies. The chapter number three describes basic characters of by-laws of a cooperative. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate and analyse legislation of membership rights and responsibilities transfer in cooperatives in Czech Republic. The legislation of this institution is quite austere and ambiguous leading to various problems in practice. This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part defines main sources of legislation on which current cooperatives are based on. The second part defines basic concepts of cooperative law, e.g. a cooperative, membership, membership share, membership rights and responsibilities and their relations. This part presents cooperative principles and outlines basic structure of each type of cooperative. The third one is the main part of the thesis and deals with legislation of membership rights transfer and responsibilities in general. It contains analysis of the specifics of membership rights and responsibilities among cooperative members and transfer between a cooperative member and a third person - a non-member. In addition, peculiarities of membership transfer in housing cooperatives are discussed. The next chapters focus in detail on legislation applied to the rights and responsibilities agreement, its content formalities, characteristics of the parties, issues of (non)corruption and its form. The Transfer of Membership Rights and Obligations in Cooperatives The aim of the thesis is to analyse legal relations arising from the transfer of membership rights and obligations in cooperatives. I chose this topic, because Czech legal regulations of the transfer are very often ambiguous and inaccurate. In the thesis I have summed up the current Czech legislation, pointed out some practical problems and tried to solve them. The thesis is composed of three chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of the subject to be analyzed. The first chapter defines general terminology concerning the transfer of membership rights and obligations in cooperatives. I have tried to explain the different terms used in the Czech Commercial Code and to describe their mutual relations. Chapter two focuses on detailed description of the transfer in all types of cooperatives in the Czech Republic. The first part of this chapter describes the legislative evolution of the transfer as a legal institute. Next parts of this chapter investigate the contract of transfer and its constituent elements. To reach the self-contained description, the final part describes how by-laws of the cooperatives deal with this juridical institute.
