Momentos de empowerment : estratégias de pequenos produtores cooperados vinculados à agricultura familiar no Rio Grande do Sul / Empowerment Moments: strategies of small farmers gathered in a family agriculture cooperative in Rio Grande do Sul

Santos, Fabiano Santana dos January 2010 (has links)
The present study aimed at investigating if the cooperativeness model adopted by a cooperative of small rural producers developing organic citrus culture has contributed for the empowerment of its members, i. e., if the involved actors, either individually or collectively, have utilized their economical, social, political and cultural resources in order to perform with responsibility in the public space by defending their rights. As the rural poverty and social inequalities are present in a great part of the national territory, many producers see, in cooperativeness and in tools like the fair trade, the alternatives for subsistence and a way of mediating the political, ideological and psychological contradictions existing in society. The studied organization was the Cooperative of Ecological Citrus Producers from Caí Valley – ECOCITRUS. Located in the municipality of Montenegro, RS, this is the sole cooperative in the state of Rio Grande do Sul awarded with the international certification of Fair Trade. By adopting the Case Study as method and, as main instrument for the data collection, the semistructured interview carried out with associated small rural producers – mainly those who participated of the cooperative constitution process, the author searched for identifying and detaching the five empowerment moments suggested for Kieffer (1984) and experienced by the cooperative founders. As a result, this study draw the conclusion that the insertion of these producers into the cooperative system has contributed for positive changes in their lives by providing new opportunities they had not experienced as yet. To summarize, there is the belief that such actors have been empowered when they began to have access to a power which was previously limited and significantly changing their lives.

Patterns of cooperation, conflict, and domination in children's collaborative problem-solving

Bramel, Michael H. 28 August 1987 (has links)
This study examined the influence of age, expertise, and task difficulty on children's patterns of collaboration. Six- and eight-year-old children were individually pretested for ability to copy a Lego model and then paired with each other and asked to copy two more models. The design was a 3 (dyad skill level: novice, expert, or mixed) X 2 (age: six or eight) X 2 (task difficulty: moderate or complex) factorial. Results indicated that cooperation increased with age and expertise and decreased with task difficulty. However, expertise had a greater influence on younger than older children's interaction styles. It is argued that with age, social skills may become as important as expertise in determining styles of collaboration. The issue is raised of whether cooperation, domination, and independence represent developmental sequences (i.e., independence precedes cooperation) or whether they represent personal styles of interaction. Finally, it is suggested that an important goal for future research is to assess the relationship between patterns of collaboration and learning.

Isolating factors predicting cooperation in work groups : leader motivation and style

Velaski, Denise Hunter 01 January 1987 (has links)
There is evidence that cooperation in the workplace can have positive outcomes for organizations. To take advantage of these outcomes, it would be useful to gain information about the causes of cooperation. This study attempts to isolate some factors, leader motivation and style in particular, that may predict cooperation within work groups.

Sociala och emotionella interventioner i skolans värld. : Vad händer med karaktären hos eleverna?

Samuelsson, Helen, Drugge, Anders, Storm, Ulrika January 2015 (has links)
The purpose was to investigate whether using two type of interventions (i.e., Four rooms of change in school and EQ- workshop) in addition to curriculum guidelines can affect character development in children 10-12 years of age. The data was collected using the test Junior Temperament and Character Inventory (J-TCI; Cloninger, CR, 1994) in three elementary schools among students in fifth grade who had been involved in any of the two interventions for the past two years or no intervention at all. The J-TCI scales were used to, besides the seven personality dimension it measures, create a self-constructed empathy scale. A total of 55 participants were included in the study (girls n = 26 and boys n = 29). Statistical testing with MANOVA showed no significant main effect on empathy or any personality trait. There was however an interaction effect between intervention and gender on the character traits. Girls in the Four Rooms of change in school, compared to boys, reported higher Self-directedness and Cooperativeness and girls in the EQ-workshop reported higher Self-transcendence. The interventions Four Rooms at school and EQ workshop seems to have different impact on boys and girls.

The idea of cooperative firstly appeared in the nineteenth century when the first cooperative was founded in Rochdale, Manchester, Britain in response to the Industrial Revolution advance that had introduced the steam machine to replace manpower available then. The method used in the research was a case study including a descriptive and bibliographic field survey. A population of 900 cooperative members were involved in the study, being 187 out of them used as a sample for the investigation. A questionnaire involving three aspects was used to collect the data in the survey. The first aspect containing 8 questions related to the socioeconomic profile of cooperative members; the second with 6 questions referred to property, being the third aspect with 9 questions about cattle raising. The whole questionnaire comprised of 23 closed questions aiming to estimate the increase rate in the family income of the people surveyed. Finally, after compiling and interpreting the variables of the research, the study showed there was, indeed, an increase in the family income of those members, and it confirmed that cooperativeness is an effective alternative to reach this goal. Thus, it is expected that cooperative managers ponder over this reality and that they be willing to meet their members´ requests.
