As cabras precisam de um aporte nutricional maior no terço final da gestação independentemente da raça e tipo de gestação / The aim of this study was to evaluate the mobilization of nutrients in goats with different types and stages of pregnancy. It was used 44 of Saanen goats (Sa) and Alpine (Al). Of these, eight (four Sa and four Al) were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment to represent the body composition of nonpregnant goats to be applied to comparative slaughter technique. The remaining of the goats of each breed and type of pregnancy (single and twin) were selected according to gestational age (80, 110 and 140 days gestation) that were slaughtered. The slaughter procedure involved the separation of the empty body, mammary gland, uterus with fluid and fetal membranes and fetus (s). In females randomly selected for slaughter at 140 days of pregnancy, the blood sample for analysis of metabolites and hormones every 15 days. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial arrangement 2 x 3 x 2, involving the following factors: breed (2), gestational age (3) and number of fetuses (2). The retention rate relative daily of nutrients (TRN) in the body of the animal was still positive at 110 days of gestation, however, at 140 days (-0.18 ± 0.25 gDM / kgPCVL / d) did not differ (P <0 05) between breeds and nº. fetuses. NRT in the fetuses was higher (P <0.05) at 140 days, while retention rates (TR) of dry matter (DM) and protein did not differ between breeds, number of fetuses and gestational age. The mobilization of body nutrients occurred after 110 days of gestation and was not influenced by breed or nº. fetuses. Fetal growth in twin pregnancies was 66% higher than in single pregnancies. Goats need a higher nutrient intake in the final third of pregnancy regardless of breed and type of pregnancy

The present experiment assessed the effect of inclusion of different levels of the single cell protein molasses yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in the diet of juvenile pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) replacing fish meal. Five isoproteic (26 % CP) and isocacloric (4000 kcal GE/kg) diets were formulated in which the levels of substitution by yeast were 25, 50, 75 and 100 % and tested in two periods, following a Split Plot in Time design. Diets were fed twice a day ad libitum. Two hundred fish were allotted in 20 cement tanks of 1330 l, with continuous water flow, and sampled at 45 and 87 days after start feeding. It was possible to include until 75 % of molasses yeast in substitution of fish meal without negative effects in the parameters analyzed. The highest level of yeast in the diet (100 %) showed delayed growth, with low specific growth rate and did not affected significantly the body composition, excepting for higher mineral content. The same level of yeast provoked high mortality of fish. Its was observed hyperglycemia and decrease in liver glycogen, total liver lipid content and plasma protein in fish fed on diet containing 100 % molasses yeast. Following the same pattern of response hepatocytes showed the lowest area and volume of cytoplasm, at the same treatment. Increase in hematocrit levels appeared at 100 % molasses yeast diet only at 87 days. The other molasses yeast diets (25, 50 and 75 %) presented similar performance compared to control diet. Concluding, the results of the present study suggest that the diet with total replacement of fish meal by molasses yeast showed an antinutritional effect

In Trial 1 (requirements for maintenance), 62 animals were used. Eleven animals (3 males castrated, 2 males non-castrated and 6 females) were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as a reference to estimate the initial body composition. The remainder (18 males castrated, 18 males non-castrated and 15 females), were divided into groups of three animals of the same gender, drawn (similar weights and scores) and divided into three groups: 0% (ad libitum), 25% and 50% of alimentary restriction. When the animal reached the treatment ad libitum weight of 45 kg, this was slaughtered animals with treatments 25% and 50% restricting the same group and of the same gender condition, so that three animals from each group were hit with the same amount of experimental days. In Trial 2 (requirements for gain), we used 11 animals (3 males castrated, 2 males non-castrated and 6 females) who were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as a reference to estimate the initial body composition. Still others were slaughtered 18 animals (6 of each gender) to 37.5 kg slaughter used as intermediate and other 17 (6 males castrated, 6 males non-castrated and 5 females) were slaughtered at 45 kg body weight used as final reference, and all 47 animals fed ad libitum. The whole body of the animal was weighed, ground, homogenized and a subsample was withdrawn for carrying out chemical analyzes. We used the comparative slaughter method for the calculation of net requirements. The net requirement for daily maintenance did not differ... / Abstract: Obesity is a major challenge to global health and is highly prevalent in humans and pets. Considering the importance of this disease, we carried out this research in order to evaluate body weight, waist circumference, Lee index, body composition, Seedor index, mineral density and bone strength of Wistar rats treated with high calorie diet with or without orange red, Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck. We note that the animal that received only calorie diet showed less lean mass than the others. In addition, animals treated with herbal associated with calorie diet showed significant reduction in body fat percentage compared to the group treated only with high calorie diet. In biomechanical testing of the humerus and femur there was no difference in maximum breaking strength, although the compression test tended increased bone fragility of the femoral head in rats treated only with high calorie diet. The association anthocyanins, hydroxycinnamic acids and vitamin C does not interfere with bone mineral density and biomechanical strength of the humerus rats treated with standard hypercaloric diet during five months of treatment. Resistant individuals to changing eating habits could benefit by prolonged use of anthocyanins through increased lean mass and decreased body fat percentage after prolonged treatment with red orange. / Mestre

According to the World Health Organization (OMS, 1995), the nutrition area developed programs have been improving the life quality for those who are aging. Life expectancy has been expanding among the years, proving how important is to prepare the adult population for a health aging. This study objective is to perform a transition stage characterization development from those at the adult age to the third age, considering the nutritional aspects as also the corporal composition correlated with the perception analysis of quality aspects from those within at this aging group. The study evaluated a sample of 13 adults and 34 elderly from a Campinas city suburb, being appraised: body mass index, bioimpedance body composition and the life quality evaluation through the Whoqol-bref inquiry instrument. The statistical analysis correlated the nutritional status, according the Lipschitz classification as also against the World Health Organization pattern, within aspects of life quality perception, comparing the gathered data between the adult and elderly groups. The result displays female population predominance among the elderly, a low education level including highly illiteracy, insignificant family wages, overweight and corporal fat index above the normality. As for the life quality, despite the number of individuals evaluated and the absence of significant difference among groups, it has been noticed a better perception tendency of some specific aspects of the life quality at the elderly group when compared with the adult / Mestrado / Atividade Fisica, Adaptação e Saude / Mestre em Educação Física

CLA can originate in the rumen by biohydrogenation of fatty acids from ingested food, and by the desaturation of the trans-11 C18:1 fatty acid. Thus, significant concentrations of CLA are found in beef, milk and dairy products. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of conjugated linoleic acid supplementation on lipid profile and body composition of healthy growing Wistar rats. Two biological assays were performed: one varying CLA supplement concentration in the diet, and another varying the commercial brands of CLA used. For the first assay, 40 albino male, weaning rats were distributed at random in 4 groups of 10 animals each, according to the amount of supplement to be administered. Animals in groups AE1, AE2 and AE4 were supplemented daily for 21 days with the commercial product AdvantEdge® CLA (EASTM) at 1, 2 and 4 % of food intake respectively, and those in group C (control) with linoleic acid at 2% of food intake. The aim of this first assay was to find the optimum amount of supplement for the purpose of body fat reduction. In the second assay, 30 albino male, weaning Wistar rats were distributed at random in 3 groups of 10 animals each, according to the brand of supplement. Animals were supplemented daily for 42 days at a concentration of 2 %, chosen on the basis of results in the previous assay. Group AE received AdvantEdge® CLA (EASTM); group CO was fed CLA One® (Pharmanutrients); and group C (control) was given linoleic acid at 2 % of food intake. Throughout the experimental period animals had their weight and food intake controlled every 2 days. At the end of each experiment, the animals were killed by cervical displacement under anesthesia (sodium pentobarbital . 46 mg/kg). The blood was used for the determinations of serum triacylglycerols, total cholesterol and leptin; and the carcass was used for determining body composition. Gut contents were removed to obtain empty carcass weight. The carcass was then frozen in liquid nitrogen, chopped, dried, ground and stored at - 80 °C until determinations of water, ash, protein and fat were performed. Feeding efficiency of the rats was not altered by CLA supplementation in either of the assays. No significant difference (p > 0.05) was observed in the serum levels of triacylglycerols after supplementation with CLA. Total cholesterol values, as measured in the first essay after 21 days of treatment, presented a dose-dependent reduction. In the second assay, however, CLA supplementation was found to increase total cholesterol after 42 days. An average reduction of 18.0 % on body fat percentage was found in groups AE2 (11.2 %) and AE4 (11.6 %), compared to the control (13.9 %). Body fat percentage was also reduced by 18.0 % in the second assay in groups AE and CO, compared to the control (18.1 %, 16.7 % e 21.2 %, respectively). After 42 days of CLA supplementation, animals in groups AE and CO, in the second assay, displayed an increase of 7.5 % in ash content and a decrease of 22.4 % in the serum leptin concentration. Considering the results obtained it can be concluded that the conjugated linoleic acid supplementation at a concentration of 2 % of food intake reduced the body fat and increased the ash content of rats / Mestrado / Nutrição Experimental e Aplicada à Tecnologia de Alimentos / Mestre em Alimentos e Nutrição
