L'architecture domestique sur la côte syrienne à l'âge du Bronze récent / The domestic architecture on the Syrian Coast in the Late Bronze AgeIsmail, Izdihar 22 June 2013 (has links)
This research addresses the domestic architecture of the Syrian Coast during the Late Bronze Age. This subject has already given many scientific works about numerous archaeological sites. Our study aims at a full revaluation of the considerable literature about this area which has been the subject of many archaeological works, particularly during the last years. We have studied the domestic buildings, in the broad sense of the terms: houses, but also household installations that someone would describe as side effects, such as workings areas and stocking places (when they are completely united with the dwelling houses). We have deeply studied the matter of the sanitary appliances which are additional complement in the constructions. Our study has also examined the burials: they are architectural pieces of family houses. In our study we have tried comparison with the various houses of the Syrian Coast in the Late Bronze Age in order to give prominence to the analogies and differences which appear in the erections of private. We have also compared these buildings with those found on the Euphrate River. The subject of these comparisons was to update the specific characteristics of the houses of the Syrian Coast when you compare them with private houses of the same period, but in other areas.

La voirie des villes minoennes en Crète orientale et à Cnossos : (Minoen Moyen I - Minoen Récent I) / Streets and public courts in the Minoan towns of eastern Crete and at Knossos : (Middle Minoan I - Late Minoan I)Gomrée, Thibaut 16 November 2013 (has links)
This doctoral dissertation presents a synthesis of research on streets and public courts in Crete during the Proto- and Neopalatial periods. Ten sites are considered: Knossos, Gournia, Malia, Mochlos, Myrtos-Pyrgos, Palaikastro, Petras, Pseira, Sissi and Zakros. In the first volume, we propose a definition of the different elements related to Minoan streets and courts, and present an exhaustive catalogue of the currently published remains. The second volume, the synthesis, is a thematic study of all aspects of Minoan street and court systems. Here materials and building techniques are first considered. Then a typology of the streets, courts and junctions is proposed. The next chapters consist of a study of the different equipments found in the streets and courts and an examination of the morphology and dimensions of these urban spaces. Next, traffic principles are analyzed, followed by a summary of the different functions of streets and courts. The appearance of these built public spaces is discussed in the larger context of the emergence of Minoan towns, before considering their continuation following the destructions at the end of the Neopalatial period. The last chapter contextualizes the role of streets and courts in Minoan society. More specifically, it considers the different clues revealed by these spaces for a more comprehensive understanding of social organization during the Proto- and Neopalatial periods.

The architecture of function : Understanding House K at San Giovenale / Funktionens arkitektur : Att förstå Hus K i San GiovenaleAlyasin, Ghaza January 2020 (has links)
Between 1961 and 1963 a large terraced Etruscan building on the southside of the Acropolis at the archaeological site of San Giovenale in Italy was excavated. The building, named House K, remained largely unpublished and unstudied throughout the years, leaving our picture of the ancient settlement at San Giovenale incomplete. This thesis aims to get a better understanding of the Etruscan architecture, settlement, culture, and society at San Giovenale, by doing an architectural analysis of the building of House K, using unpublished field journals, drawings, and photographs. By comparing the architecture of House K and any structural elements immediately connected with the building, to other structures at San Giovenale, as well as other Etruscan sites, this thesis set out to learn: what kind of structure House K is; what function it had; what its relative dating is; what role it played in the settlement at San Giovenale; and what it can tell us regarding the society and culture at San Giovenale. Using environment-behaviour relations and building archaeology, the study first examined the structural elements of House K, before comparing House K to other structures at San Giovenale built 700–400 BCE. Thereafter, the study looked at parallels outside of San Giovenale, looking at the sites of Acquarossa, Luni sul Mignone, Poggio Civitate, Cerveteri, Pyrgi, Montetosto, Vulci, and Narce. Finally, a discussion was had regarding the character and function of House K, whether it was public, private, sacred, or profane. In the course of the study, an architectural chronology of San Giovenale was established, which dated the construction date of House K to between c. 565 BCE and the late 6th century BCE. The interpretation of the function of House K that seems most probable is that it was a monumental building complex of administrative, political and/or religious significance, which probably also acted as a residence for the ruling elite at San Giovenale – in other words: a palazzo. House K being a palazzo would mean that there was a centralised authority at San Giovenale, suggesting that there was some sort of ruler or leader at the top of the social hierarchy, splitting the social division at San Giovenale further than it was previously believed to have been.

Investigation of Historical Area in Xi'an, ChinaYu, Zhaoxiong 29 August 2014 (has links)
Historical area is the unique place to a certain context because it contains the most valuable culture on the site and also keeps recording its history. While the increasing pressure from developing tourism and booming population seriously impacts the old site resulting in culture lost.
This thesis investigates a typical historical area in Xi’an in a logical process. The process starts with analysis from local fabric as urban scale to living unit as family scale to make a clear view on local culture lost. According to the context, set up appropriate criteria to select typical site to make sure the solution can be well integrated into similar scenario. Then, based on the analysis, generate possible conceptual responses. Finally, design from a modular unit, to courtyard space and to the final block prospect, and make sure the final solution in every step could not only solve the problems, but also accommodate the local life style.
The whole design process appropriately integrates the concept of shared space in dealing with the overload urban and living density. The application of the phasing study makes the whole research and design process more sustainable and feasible.

The architectural study deals with recovery and redevelopment of Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou castle, which is currently abandoned and derelict. Inside the castle are planned cultural, social, exhibitive and representative areas. One wing of Hrušovany’s castle will be used as a hotel. There are designed extra standard rooms with chateau interiors. In underground floors we will find a wellness and wine bar. The service of the castle is extended by spaces in new outbuildings. It is a greenhouse, a restaurant and a pavilion for social events. The castle and outbuildings create a courtyard suitable for open-air cultural events. One part of castle‘s complex is garden lapidarium and floral terraces. The design keeps historical and architectural value of this cultural heritage and offers its dignified use nowadays.

The object consists of 3 volumes: two 6-storey academic buildings, interconnected with public space. Simple geometry of complex is formed by the existing urban development. Repeating street directions and continuing visual contact with the housing of the Law Faculty, the building in terms of shape represents letter V and forms enclosed courtyards. In the lower part of the building of the Faculty of Fine Arts there are workrooms, library and repository that are loaded from the north facade. The first three floors are connected by a corridor with a recreational area of public space created for a comfortable communicating and solitary classes. On the other floors there are workshops, studios and studio offices of ceramics, sculpture, metal, photography, printing and 3D-graphics, cabinets of deanery and classrooms. On the top floor, that is 6 m height, there are art studios, additionaly lightened by lanterns on the roof. The housing is designed in that way that it has the open airy atrium, which, along with half-transparent facades, provides natural light in most interiors. Facade structure is highlighted with the shell of the vertical and horizontal aluminum fins and shelves, which gives to a compex an interesting and constantly changing pattern. Unified composition is also highlighted with shades of warm and cold colors of the spectrum. Four underground floors are used for car parking, and the ground flloor of them is given for the operation of the university. Green Housing / Grönt bostadshusJohnson Eriksson, Christian January 2014 (has links)
The Building is a combination of a green house and multi familyhousing building. The building´s courtyard is transformed in to a winter garden and creates an climate controlled environment with exotic vegitation blooming all year around. The courtyard is working as an extra livingroom with nice public walks in different levels were people can relax, exercise and socialise. The heat generated from the winter garden can be reused and recycled in to the floor slabs. It can also be deposited into the ground under the garden creating a climate smart heating system. One important aspect when drawing the plans was to give all the apartments a private space inside the wintergarden. I created plans where the allocation of the garden is equal. the private space is located on the second floor in the duplex apartments but some apartments only consist of one level and some extra care went in to making a private space for them too. The winter garden not only allows people to watch the trees and plants it also gives them the possibility to grow there own food on the private balcony and just outside the kitchen window. Having plants outside the kitchen blocks the view from people passing by on the public promenade.
