Simulace nadproudové spouště jističe / Simulation of circuit-breaker trip unit

Dostál, Lukáš January 2010 (has links)
Securing of electrical devices is important not only to protect against destruction under the effects of electric current, but also for protection of people or animals against electric shock. With increasing of living standards goes hand in hand increasing of the electricity consumption. Therefore In the grid of low voltage, there are increasing short-circuit currents. With improving technology is posed considerable demand on the performance, security and switching capacity of circuit breakers. This thesis is oriented on development of thermal and electromagnetic switch of circuit breaker on which is put a big demand in development of new types of circuit breakers. The thesis is interesting because of comprehensive use of circuits’ breakers since it can be used in AC and DC networks with frequency of 50 Hz and 400 Hz.

New concept for organic lightemitting devices under high excitations using emission from a metal-free area

Slowik, Irma, Fischer, Axel, Gutsche, Stefan, Brückner, Robert, Fröb, Hartmut, Lenk, Simone, Reineke, Sebastian, Leo, Karl 08 August 2019 (has links)
In this work, a new organic light-emitting device (OLED) structure is proposed that allows light-emission from a metal-free device region, thus reducing the hurdles towards an electrically pumped organic solid state laser (OSL). Our design concept employs a stepwise change from a highly conductive but opaque metal part to a highly transparent but less conductive intrinsic emission layer. Here, the high current densities are localized to an area of a few micrometer in square, which is in the range of the mode volume of the transverse mode of an organic vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL). Besides these experimental results, we present findings from simulations which further support the feasibility of our design concept. Using an equivalent circuit approach, representing the current ow in the device, we calculate the time-dependent length of the emission zone and give estimations for appropriate material parameters.

High Current Density Low Voltage Isolated Dc-dc Converterswith Fast Transient Response

Yao, Liangbin 01 January 2007 (has links)
With the rapid development of microprocessor and semiconductor technology, industry continues to update the requirements for power supplies. For telecommunication and computing system applications, power supplies require increasing current level while the supply voltage keeps decreasing. For example, the Intel's CPU core voltage decreased from 2 volt in 1999 to 1 volt in 2005 while the supply current increased from 20A in 1999 to up to 100A in 2005. As a result, low-voltage high-current high efficiency dc-dc converters with high power-density are demanded for state-of-the-art applications and also the future applications. Half-bridge dc-dc converter with current-doubler rectification is regarded as a good topology that is suitable for high-current low-voltage applications. There are three control schemes for half-bridge dc-dc converters and in order to provide a valid unified analog model for optimal compensator design, the analog state-space modeling and small signal modeling are studied in the dissertation and unified state-space and analog small signal model are derived. In addition, the digital control gains a lot of attentions due to its flexibility and re-programmability. In this dissertation, a unified digital small signal model for half-bridge dc-dc converter with current doubler rectifier is also developed and the digital compensator based on the derived model is implemented and verified by the experiments with the TI DSP chip. In addition, although current doubler rectifier is widely used in industry, the key issue is the current sharing between two inductors. The current imbalance is well studied and solved in non-isolated multi-phase buck converters, yet few discusse this issue in the current doubler rectification topology within academia and industry. This dissertation analyze the current sharing issue in comparison with multi-phase buck and one modified current doubler rectifier topology is proposed to achieve passive current sharing. The performance is evaluated with half bridge dc-dc converter; good current sharing is achieved without additional circuitry. Due to increasing demands for high-efficiency high-power-density low-voltage high current topologies for future applications, the thermal management is challenging. Since the secondary-side conduction loss dominates the overall power loss in low-voltage high-current isolated dc-dc converters, a novel current tripler rectification topology is proposed. Theoretical analysis, comparison and experimental results verify that the proposed rectification technique has good thermal management and well-distributed power dissipation, simplified magnetic design and low copper loss for inductors and transformer. That is due to the fact that the load current is better distributed in three inductors and the rms current in transformer windings is reduced. Another challenge in telecommunication and computing applications is fast transient response of the converter to the increasing slew-rate of load current change. For instance, from Intel's roadmap, it can be observed that the current slew rate of the age regulator has dramatically increased from 25A/uS in 1999 to 400A/us in 2005. One of the solutions to achieve fast transient response is secondary-side control technique to eliminate the delay of optocoupler to increase the system bandwidth. Active-clamp half bridge dc-dc converter with secondary-side control is presented and one industry standard 16th prototype is built and tested; good efficiency and transient response are shown in the experimental section. However, one key issue for implementation of secondary-side control is start-up. A new zero-voltage-switching buck-flyback isolated dc-dc converter with synchronous rectification is proposed, and it is only suitable for start-up circuit for secondary-side controlled converter, but also for house-keeping power supplies and standalone power supplies requiring multi-outputs.

Propagation Prediction Over Random Rough Surface By Zeroth Order Induced Current Density

Balu, Narayana Srinivasan 07 November 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Electromagnetic wave propagation over random sea surfaces is a classical problem of interest for the Navy, and significant research has been done over the years. Here we make use of numerical and analytical methods to predict the propagation of microwaves over random rough surface. The numerical approach involves utilization of the direct solution (using Volterra integral equation of the second kind) to currents induced on a rough surface due to forward propagating waves to compute the scattered field. The mean scattered field is computed using the Monte-Carlo method. Since the exact solution (consisting of an infinite series) to induced current density is computationally intensive, there exists a need to predict the propagation using the closely accurate zeroth order induced current (first term of the series) for time-varying multiple realizations of a random rough surface in a computationally efficient manner. The wind-speed dependent, fully-developed, Piersen-Moskowitz sea spectrum has been considered in order to model a rough sea surface, although other partially-developed roughness spectra may also be utilized. An analytical solution based on the zeroth order current density obtained by deriving the mean scattered field as a function of the range and vertical height by directly using the Parabolic Equation (PE) approximation method and the resulting Green's function has been utilized for a comparative study. The analytical solution takes into account the diffused component of the scattered field.

Compact Superconducting Dual-Log Spiral Resonator with High Q-Factor and Low Power Dependence.

Excell, Peter S., Hejazi, Z.M. January 2002 (has links)
No / A new dual-log spiral geometry is proposed for microstrip resonators, offering substantial advantages in performance and size reduction at subgigahertz frequencies when realized in superconducting materials. The spiral is logarithmic in line spacing and width such that the width of the spiral line increases smoothly with the increase of the current density, reaching its maximum where the current density is maximum (in its center for ¿/2 resonators). Preliminary results of such a logarithmic ten-turn (2 × 5 turns) spiral, realized with double-sided YBCO thin film, showed a Q.-factor seven times higher than that of a single ten-turn uniform spiral made of YBCO thin film and 64 times higher than a copper counterpart. The insertion loss of the YBCO dual log-spiral has a high degree of independence of the input power in comparison with a uniform Archimedian spiral, increasing by only 2.5% for a 30-dBm increase of the input power, compared with nearly 31% for the uniform spiral. A simple approximate method, developed for prediction of the resonant frequency of the new resonators, shows a good agreement with the test results.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Modelling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Stacks

Nishida, Robert Takeo 02 October 2013 (has links)
Two computational fluid dynamics models are developed to predict the performance of a solid oxide fuel cell stack, a detailed and a simplified model. In the detailed model, the three dimensional momentum, heat, and species transport equations are coupled with electrochemistry. In the simplified model, the diffusion terms in the transport equations are selectively replaced by rate terms within the core region of the stack. This allows much coarser meshes to be employed at a fraction of the computational cost. Following the mathematical description of the problem, results for single-cell and multi-cell stacks are presented. Comparisons of local current density, temperature, and cell voltage indicate that good agreement is obtained between the detailed and simplified models, verifying the latter as a practical option in stack design. Then, the simplified model is used to determine the effects of utilization on the electrochemical performance and temperature distributions of a 10 cell stack. The results are presented in terms of fluid flow, pressure, species mass fraction, temperature, voltage and current density distributions. The effects of species and flow distributions on electrochemical performance and temperature are then analyzed for a 100 cell stack. The discussion highlights the importance of manifold design on performance and thermal management of large stacks. / Thesis (Master, Mechanical and Materials Engineering) -- Queen's University, 2013-09-30 15:55:18.627

Προηγμένα περοβσκιτικά ηλεκτρόδια για ενεργειακές και καταλυτικές εφαρμογές / Advanced perovskitic electrodes for energy and catalytic applications

Κουρνούτης, Βασίλειος 20 April 2011 (has links)
Recently, there has been a lot of focus on the development of new cathode materials for use in intermediate temperature (600–800°C) solid oxide fuel cells, since the conventional cathodes based on La1–xSrxMnO3–δ do not perform satisfactorily below 800°C. Iron- and cobalt-containing perovskites La1–x–ySrxCozFe1–zO3–δ have recently attracted significant attention as promising alternative cathode materials for IT-SOFCs, mainly due to their high mixed (electronic and ionic) conductivity, which results in enlargement of the available electrochemically active area, and their high oxygen surface exchange coefficients. In the present work electrochemical characterisation was carried out on porous La1–x–ySrxCo0.2Fe0.8O3–δ (LSCF) and La1–x–ySrxFeO3–δ (LSF) cathode electrodes deposited via screen-printing on the CGO layer of a CGO/YSZ electrolyte, using AC impedance spectroscopy, current density vs. electrode overpotential measurements, and cyclic voltammetry. From the analysis of the experimental results it was concluded that depending on temperature, oxygen partial pressure and polarization, the impedance characteristics of the La0.8Sr0.2Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ electrode are determined by up to three different processes, which were identified as ionic conduction in the electrode bulk, interfacial charge transfer and gas phase diffusion, respectively. The values of the electrokinetic parameters of the electrochemical oxygen reduction as well as the polarization conductance, were determined as a function of the applied electrode potential at different temperatures, based on the analysis of current density vs. electrode overpotential measurements. Cyclic voltammetry technique was used in order to identify the electrochemical processes taking place under cathodic polarization on the basis of differences in the features of the cyclic voltammograms with changing conditions. Depending on the electrode, temperature, oxygen partial pressure and potential sweep rate, the appearance of current peaks was related to the electrochemical redox of B-sites and concomitant stoichiometry change as well as to the competing reaction of electrochemical oxygen redox, taking also into account the competitive action of chemical reactions which may occur in the presence of O2. Finally, the present work aimed to the assessment of the catalytic activity of these perovskite oxides for CO and CH4 combustion and it was found that LSCF perovskites were more catalytically active than LSF perovskites.
