Three Topics in Analysis: (I) The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus Implies that of Algebra, (II) Mini Sums for the Riesz Representing Measure, and (III) Holomorphic Domination and Complex Banach Manifolds Similar to Stein Manifolds

Mathew, Panakkal J 13 May 2011 (has links)
We look at three distinct topics in analysis. In the first we give a direct and easy proof that the usual Newton-Leibniz rule implies the fundamental theorem of algebra that any nonconstant complex polynomial of one complex variable has a complex root. Next, we look at the Riesz representation theorem and show that the Riesz representing measure often can be given in the form of mini sums just like in the case of the usual Lebesgue measure on a cube. Lastly, we look at the idea of holomorphic domination and use it to define a class of complex Banach manifolds that is similar in nature and definition to the class of Stein manifolds.

Problèmes d'identification dans les graphes

Parreau, Aline 05 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)

Exame da filosofia de Nietzsche sob o ponto de vista político / Examination of Nietzsches philosophy from the political standpoint

Domingos Antonio Dias 29 August 2014 (has links)
The question about the existence or nonexistence of a Nietzschean political philosophy keeps recurring in academia and it is immensely problematic ever since the attachment of the philosophers name to the fascist ideologies of the first half of the twentieth century. Especially from the second half of the twentieth century onwards, Nietzsches philosophy has been brought to political debates, this time as the philosophy of great causes, of those yearning for liberation from the yoke of big political schemes of modernity. The initial aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate that Nietzsches philosophy does not have the features to allow its assimilation by the political debate. The philosopher himself repeatedly refused to enter the political debate of his time, refusing to constrain his reflections and philosophical views to the needs and cries of the rabble. He warned for the harshness and radical nature of his thought and forecasted the attachment of his name to terrible things. In light of this, this dissertation is to carry out an examination of the Nietzschean philosophy from the political stand point, that is, try to see if Nietzsches thought has a place in the general framework of political thought. This examination shall be done taking into account the wide audience to which political discourses are destined and the commitment of this thought to the cries of the rabble, or to the discourse of domination. The final aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate that displaced from the framework of philosophy, that is, brought to the bosom of common sense and due to the controversial nature of its assertions, Nietzsches philosophy, once again, ends up being an easy prey to the proposes of domination, serving the worst intentions. Once more, the philosophers prediction that his name would be attached to terrible things is running the risk of being confirmed.

Identifying vertices in graphs and digraphs

Skaggs, Robert Duane 28 February 2007 (has links)
The closed neighbourhood of a vertex in a graph is the vertex together with the set of adjacent vertices. A di®erentiating-dominating set, or identifying code, is a collection of vertices whose intersection with the closed neighbour- hoods of each vertex is distinct and nonempty. A di®erentiating-dominating set in a graph serves to uniquely identify all the vertices in the graph. Chapter 1 begins with the necessary de¯nitions and background results and provides motivation for the following chapters. Chapter 1 includes a summary of the lower identi¯cation parameters, °L and °d. Chapter 2 de- ¯nes co-distinguishable graphs and determines bounds on the number of edges in graphs which are distinguishable and co-distinguishable while Chap- ter 3 describes the maximum number of vertices needed in order to identify vertices in a graph, and includes some Nordhaus-Gaddum type results for the sum and product of the di®erentiating-domination number of a graph and its complement. Chapter 4 explores criticality, in which any minor modi¯cation in the edge or vertex set of a graph causes the di®erentiating-domination number to change. Chapter 5 extends the identi¯cation parameters to allow for orientations of the graphs in question and considers the question of when adding orientation helps reduce the value of the identi¯cation parameter. We conclude with a survey of complexity results in Chapter 6 and a collection of interesting new research directions in Chapter 7. / Mathematical Sciences / PhD (Mathematics)

In a concrete or symbolic way, it pervades the daily lives of many women who have experienced domestic violence situations. Once socially constructed, man is placed in an unequal position of power, these actions are often trivialized and reinforced by a society that is marked by patriarchy. Gender inequalities reinforce violence against women. My practice shows that many of these women seek help in religion, more specifically with their religious leaders who, in addition to agreeing with the violence that woman has lived, reinforce it through their religious beliefs. The cases seen at Casas Abrigo Regional Grande ABC attest that many women do not break the violence cycle because they belong to some religious institution and hear from their leaders discourses that legitimize submission and violence against women. This research intends to identify and analyze the Christianity influence in the violent family relations of Catholic and Evangelical women hosted in Casas Abrigo Regional Grande ABC and the same religious groups' perpetrators of violence against women. We will try to understand the violence consequences in these women's life, as well as to identify religion's influence in the masculine exercise of aggression and in the subjection of women to aggression. To approach these women, we chose two Reference Centers for Women's Care: “Marcia Dangremon” and “Vem Maria” as a field of this research. In order to approach the perpetrators of violence against women, we chose Centro de Referência Especializado de Assistência Social – CREAS de São Bernardo do Campo.

Suchý, Ondřej January 2011 (has links)
Title: Parameterized Complexity Author: Ondřej Suchý Department: Department of Applied Mathematics Advisor: Prof. RNDr. Jan Kratochvíl, CSc. Advisor's e-mail address: honza@kam.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: This thesis deals with the parameterized complexity of NP-hard graph problems. We explore the complexity of the problems in various scenarios, with respect to miscellaneous parameters and their combina- tions. Our aim is rather to classify in this multivariate manner whether the particular parameters make the problem fixed-parameter tractable or intractable than to present the algorithm achieving the best running time. In the questions we study typically the first-choice parameter is unsuccessful, in which case we propose to use less standard ones. The first family of problems investigated provides a common general- ization of many well known and studied domination and independence problems. Here we suggest using the dual parameterization and show that, in contrast to the standard solution-size, it can confine the in- evitable combinatorial explosion. Further studied problems are ana- logues of the Steiner problem in directed graphs. Here the parameter- ization by the number of terminals to be connected seems to be previ- ously unexplored in the directed setting. Unfortunately, the problems are shown to be...

Dominação e resistência operária no núcleo fabril de Fernão Velho (Maceió/AL) / Domination and workers resistence on factory core in Fernão Velho (Maceió/AL)

Farias, Ivo dos Santos 25 January 2012 (has links)
