abstract: Mobile data collection (MDC) applications have been growing in the last decade especially in the field of education and research. Although many MDC applications are available, almost all of them are tailor-made for a very specific task in a very specific field (i.e. health, traffic, weather forecasts, …etc.). Since the main users of these apps are researchers, physicians or generally data collectors, it can be extremely challenging for them to make adjustments or modifications to these applications given that they have limited or no technical background in coding. Another common issue with MDC applications is that its functionalities are limited only to data collection and storing. Other functionalities such as data visualizations, data sharing, data synchronization and/or data updating are rarely found in MDC apps. This thesis tries to solve the problems mentioned above by adding the following two enhancements: (a) the ability for data collectors to customize their own applications based on the project they’re working on, (b) and introducing new tools that would help manage the collected data. This will be achieved by creating a Java standalone application where data collectors can use to design their own mobile apps in a userfriendly Graphical User Interface (GUI). Once the app has been completely designed using the Java tool, a new iOS mobile application would be automatically generated based on the user’s input. By using this tool, researchers now are able to create mobile applications that are completely tailored to their needs, in addition to enjoying new features such as visualize and analyze data, synchronize data to the remote database, share data with other data collectors and update existing data. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Computer Science 2016

This thesis examines the role of grandchildren's existence in the retirement timing decision- making process of grandparents. Previous literature has focused mostly on other aspects of retirement and potential causes that can affect its timing. Using the Two-Stage least squares estimation on the SHARE dataset, representing 17 European countries and Israel, we estimate the desired effect with respect to various data limitations (age groups, gender, child existence). Residential proximity is used as the instrument for estimation. Having at least one grandchild yields a statistically significant result that increases on average the likelihood of retirement by 19% when compared to a non-grandparent while holding other factors constant. As a secondary outcome, the estimated effect of an additional child on retirement likelihood is negative. The prevalence of cancer in the world continues to grow, faster in economically developed countries. According to current scientific knowledge, at least one third of cases could be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The present thesis therefore sought to analyze the prevalence of cancer in connection with the lifestyle of the European population, of 63,772 respondents of the SHARE study (The Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe) in fact. The work contains the theoretical description of the problem and the analytical part. The differences in the prevalence of the diseases of the respondents from 16 European countries were monitored in the empirical part. The relation between the incidence of cancer and the groups of diseases defined by alcohol consumption, smoking, obesity and the lifestyle of the respondents was analyzed by the method of binary logistic regression. The survey was expanded by the summarizing indicator of Healthy Lifestyle Index, compiled from smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, body weight, and consumption of fruit and vegetables. The analysis, among other things, showed that with the decline in the healthy lifestyle index, the risk of malignancy in both men and women increased and is more pronounced in males.
