However, as time goes by, transformations get introduced in the production of TV journalism, proved principally by the following characteristics: the use of the videotape, the emission of contents at a distance, the diffusion in colors, the beginning of the TV by subscription, the appearing of the Internet. Such innovations ensure the advent of the new technologies for a proper television, as a result, the development of the TV journalism, pushing it to revise its concepts and paradigms. An example that certificates this issue is the fact that the TV news show the need of the establishment of new formats, making available the spectator participation, based on the interactive assumption of the cyberspace, encouraging potential of content, where is valued the Internet user autonomy. In the meantime, could be said that this participation still find limitations in the analog technology, what push us to mention that to have the dialogue between the transmitter and the audience, this has to cover the other coexisting medias. In this context, the Brazilian digital TV had its origins, one media with a resolution superior than the one of the conventional TV and that allow the simultaneous emission of more information and interactive services, been these principals differentials, enabling to the users experiences more ―actuating‖, revealing inclusive, the unidirectional nature of the television. In this type of TV, the digital TV journalism, already operating in many countries, is multimedia, interactive and multidimensional. Because so, this dissertation proposal intent to produce reflections about the journalism to be disseminated by this new TV, recently even in Brazil, pointing the perspectives of development of interactive platforms. / No Brasil, o telejornal teve origem em 1950, em uma estrutura simples, sem muitos recursos audiovisuais. Contudo, ao longo dos anos, incidiram-se transformações na produção dos telejornais, evidenciadas principalmente pelas seguintes características: o uso do videotape, a emissão de conteúdos a distância, a difusão em cores, o início da televisão por assinatura, o surgimento da Internet. Tais inovações asseguram que o advento das novas tecnologias para televisão propicia, em consequência, o desenvolvimento do telejornalismo, forçando-o a rever seus respectivos conceitos e paradigmas. Um exemplo que atesta esta questão é o fato dos telejornais revelarem a necessidade de estabelecerem novos formatos, disponibilizando a participação dos telespectadores, baseados nos pressupostos interativos do ciberespaço, potencial fomentador de conteúdo, onde se valoriza a autonomia do internauta. Entretanto, cabe ressaltar que essa participação ainda encontra limitações na própria tecnologia analógica, o que significa mencionar que para haver o diálogo entre emissora e audiência, esta tem que recorrer às outras diversas mídias coexistentes. Neste contexto, tem origem a TV digital brasileira, uma mídia com resolução superior a da TV convencional e que permite a emissão simultânea de mais informações e serviços interativos, sendo estes os principais diferenciais, por permitirem aos usuários experiências muito mais atuantes, desvelando-se, inclusive, do caráter unidirecional da televisão. Neste tipo de TV, o telejornalismo digital, já em operação em variados países, é multimídia, interativo e multilinear. Assim sendo, esta proposta de dissertação intenta produzir reflexões acerca do jornalismo a ser veiculado por esta nova TV, ainda recente no Brasil, apontando as perspectivas de desenvolvimento de plataformas interativas.

The Impact of Ownership, Regulation Issues and Technology Adoption on the Introduction of Digital Terrestrial Television: A Comparison of the United States and Mainland ChinaGuo, Miao 08 1900 (has links)
This study compares the impact of media ownership, regulation and policy, and technology adoption on the introduction of digital terrestrial television in the United States and Mainland China. Through the use of a case study approach, a qualitative and quantitative examination is given. The results indicate that private group ownership throughout the U.S. digital terrestrial television industry and state ownership in China's television industry lead to the different paths to digital transition. Both governments, however, are deeply involved in respective digital initiatives and play an important role in the implementation from analog to digital. The technical standard adoption in the two countries places the underpinning for the future development of digital television (DTV), which also results in China lagging behind the United States by almost ten years. The differences of technological environments in households and income among consumers in the two countries further predict the intention to DTV adoption.

<p>Ova disertacija se bavi istraživanjem u oblasti integracije servisa digitalne televizije u moderne uređaje potrošačke elektronike. Cilj teze je da razvije pristup za sistemsko proširenje Android operativnog sistema servisima digitalne televizije, i da predloži rešenje koje omogućuje rad u realnom vremenu. Kvalitet rešenja se ocenjuje odgovarajućim metrikama preko ocene kvaliteta implementirane Java objektno orijentisane sprege za TV servise. Osnovni doprinos teze se ogleda u definisanju jedinstvene programske sprege servisa digitalne televizije na platformama koje prate paradigmu virtuelne mašine. Predloženo rešenje omogućuje razvoj aplikacija optimizovanih za izvršavanje na TV uređajima i dalje sprezanje podataka TV servisa sa ostatkom Android ekosistema.</p> / <p>This PhD dissertation addresses the problem of integration of the digital TV services inside modern consumer electronic devices. The main focus of the dissertation is a development of systematic approach for extension of Android operating system with support for digital television. Combined with this, the dissertation describes solution in form of hardware platform with accompanying software that closely follows this approach and achieves real-time performance. Quality of proposed solution is benchmarked using metrics for measuring quality of object-oriented program code. The main contribution of the dissertation is unification of system software API for digital television on Android-based platforms. Proposed solution allows development of TV-centric software capable of real-time performance, and further native integration of data coming from DVB broadcast into Android ecosystem.</p>

This technological transition is related to a political push which is highly concerned with national public interest in relation to socio-economic forces. Thailand's TV industry has also adopted and used digital television (DTV) technologies since the late 1990s in its TV production and broadcasting. The Thai government broadcasting regulators are expected to play a key role in launching and issuing national DTV policy. However, they seem to be involved in a conflict of interest which has negatively impacted Thailand's DTV transition. --This study selects Thailand's TV industry as a case study of a developing country in response to global technological transition. The thesis aims to explore major drives influencing Thai broadcasting in the shift from analogue to digital. It provides recommendations vis-à-vis the establishment of national DTV policy, and the current use of DTV technologies by Thai TV stations. The research project was conducted in Bangkok, Thailand, between October 2006 and October 2007, after the September coup in 2006. Two research methodologies employed in the study are (1) in-depth interviews with 26 experts (TV station administrators and mass communication scholars), and (2) observations of the nine TV stations. --Theoretical concepts in globalisation of communication echnologies and communication policy are reviewed. The research reveals two major pushes significantly forcing Thailand's TV industry into a newly administrative sphere. manufacturers like Sony experienced with the distribution of the Psone and now the
Playstation 2 consoles. Nonetheless, the tie ratio (the relationship between the
number of games bought per year and the installed base of consoles) is limited on
average to only 2.2 games per Psone sold. It is an achievement, though limited
considering the 5-year timeframe. The relatively low penetration of games can,
amongst other things, be contributed to the retail price of games and the distribution
channel in use.
On the other hand, the PayTV industry has resolved the concept of content
distribution years ago, and has reinvented itself several times along the way, from
analogue to digital to personal video recorders. All of these phases had one common
feature, some sort of encryption to prevent unauthorised viewing. With the invention
of digital data distribution, data transfer speeds in access of 27Mb/s became a
standard feature. As a result, it would be fair to say that PayTV perfected the
distribution of encrypted data at high speed to devices in consumers' homes.
Therefore, it is not inconceivable that a combination of a hard drive and digital
subscriber technology, which can communicate to a game console, could create an
alternative distribution platform for console games. The combination of the devices
could decrease the cost of game distribution, increase the player's choice, decrease

the cost to users, and more importantly, create a monthly revenue stream. In this
manner, the cost hurdle with respect to games could be reduced, and the penetration
and use of game console devices could be increased.
The video game industry is a $24 billion business with substantial revenue generated
from game distribution. By removing the cost hurdle of game distribution, the
penetration of these devices will be accelerated and both parties will benefit.
Although the industry is not geared for this type of content delivery, MIHL's
knowledge and expertise in signing up exclusive content for their PayTV operation and the group's ability to develop technology solutions will prove valuable in

A Novel Steganography Technique for SDTV-H.264/AVC Encoded VideoDi Laura, Christian, Pajuelo, Diego, Kemper, Guillermo 04 1900 (has links)
Today, eavesdropping is becoming a common issue in the rapidly growing digital network and has foreseen the need for secret communication channels embedded in digital media. In this paper, a novel steganography technique designed for Standard Definition Digital Television (SDTV) H.264/AVC encoded video sequences is presented. The algorithm introduced here makes use of the compression properties of the Context Adaptive Variable Length Coding (CAVLC) entropy encoder to achieve a low complexity and real-time inserting method. The chosen scheme hides the private message directly in the H.264/AVC bit stream by modifying the AC frequency quantized residual luminance coefficients of intrapredicted I-frames. In order to avoid error propagation in adjacent blocks, an interlaced embedding strategy is applied. Likewise, the steganography technique proposed allows self-detection of the hidden message at the target destination. The code source was implemented by mixing MATLAB 2010 b and Java development environments. Finally, experimental results have been assessed through objective and subjective quality measures and reveal that less visible artifacts are produced with the technique proposed by reaching PSNR values above 40.0 dB and an embedding bit rate average per secret communication channel of 425 bits/sec. This exemplifies that steganography is affordable in digital television.

A TV digital é hoje uma realidade em muitos países e no Brasil as pesquisas já estão atingindo um estágio avançando. Muita expectativa gira em torno desta tecnologia, que oferece uma ampla variedade de serviços multimídia, abrindo as portas deste modo para criativas propostas e novas possibilidades de relacionamento com o usuário final. Esta complexidade e as novas opções de serviços que podem ser oferecidos demandam, obrigatoriamente, uma arquitetura adequada de gerenciamento, capaz de controlar e otimizar os terminais desta rede bem como os serviços oferecidos pela mesma. Neste trabalho são apresentados os requisitos funcionais e não funcionais necessários para a construção de um sistema genérico de gerenciamento de set-top boxes e serviços em TV digital, baseados no estudo de pesquisas semelhantes e nas particularidades deste ambiente. Também para este sistema genérico são detalhados todos os casos de uso de interesse. Além disso, uma arquitetura híbrida é proposta para a solução deste problema, utilizando para tanto padrões abertos e considerando alguns cenários possíveis de implantação no mundo real. Nesta arquitetura, é adotado o modelo clássico de gerenciamento gerente-agente, através do uso de um servidor de gerência, responsável pelo armazenamento e análise de todos os dados de gerenciamento bem como pelo disparo de comandos e recebimento de respostas (síncronas e/ou assíncronas) dos agentes. Tanto na definição deste sistema genérico como no desenho da arquitetura final, procurou-se na medida do possível adotar a utilização de princípios clássicos de gerenciamento que já são aplicados em várias arquiteturas existentes, inclusive de mercado. Deste modo, foi possível encontrar uma solução para um problema complexo através do uso de conceitos amplamente conhecidos, o que facilita o entendimento final. / Nowadays, digital TV systems are a reality in many countries and in Brazil the research in this field is reaching an advanced stage. Much excitement is expected from this technology, which may offer a wide variety of multimedia services, opening the doors for creative proposals and new possibilities of relationships with the final user. This complexity and the new options of services that can be offered demand a suitable architecture for management, which should be able to control and optimize the set-top boxes of this network as well as of the services offered by it. In this work, the requirements for the building of a generic management system for the digital TV environment are presented, based in the study of similar research and considering the specifics involved. Besides that, a hybrid architecture based on open standards is proposed for the solution of this problem. In this architecture, it is adopted the classical manager-agent model, through the use of a management server, which is responsible for the storage and analysis of all the management data as well for the triggering of commands and receptions of answers and traps sent by the agents. The conception and design of this architecture has followed as much as possible, classic principles of network management. With this approach, it was possible to find a simple solution to a very complex problem.

Esta pesquisa apresenta uma reflexão sobre a televisão digital como forma de ampliação do acesso da sociedade a informações relevantes para sua formação cultural e promoção da cidadania e o cenário de sua inserção nos contextos escolares e educativos brasileiros. O trabalho fornece subsídios teóricos, conceituais e históricos necessários para os debates de educadores e agentes dos sistemas de educação sobre a implementação e uso da televisão digital no cotidiano escolar. Resgata experiências anteriores de utilização da televisão na escola no período pós-LDB, além de mapear as pesquisas sobre o tema. Estão agrupadas informações sobre a origem e a história da televisão convencional analógica, sobre o computador e sobre a televisão digital apresentando os preceitos técnicos e teóricos relacionados com a integração dessas três tecnologias. Em seguida, desenvolve uma reflexão que articula os conceitos, o contexto e as perspectivas para uso educativo da televisão digital no Brasil com base em implicações pedagógicas constatadas na revisão de estudos anteriores. São propostos tópicos específicos relacionados à prospecção e ao desenvolvimento dos futuros projetos de implementação da tecnologia no contexto educativo contemporâneo nos domínios da televisão digital e dos recursos computacionais. A metodologia se desenvolveu na esfera da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental por meio do método da documentação indireta, predominantemente, embora também baseada em documentos de fontes primarias (documentação direta), em menor escala. A investigação infere que alguns dos princípios norteadores para a implementação e uso da televisão digital nos contextos escolares são a criação de condições de acesso dos alunos e professores à tecnologia para expansão da construção coletiva de conhecimentos; a concepção de meios para o desenvolvimento de competências e habilidades que valorizem a formação dos agentes da educação; o desenvolvimento de uma rede universal constituída por diferentes agrupamentos sociais; e integração do uso com os programas curriculares. A incorporação da televisão digital na escola numa perspectiva inovadora requer uma revisão dos projetos político-pedagogicos; uma ampliação dos recursos financeiros para capacitação técnico-pedagógica de seus usuários do contexto escolar; fomento para o desenvolvimento de experiências que explorem suas possibilidades pedagógicas; e criação de oportunidades para o desenvolvimento do trabalho autoral cooperativo e colaborativo. / The article treats a reflection on the digital television as a tool to expand the society access to information for its cultural formation and promotion of the citizenship as well as the role of its insertion in both educational and school Brazilian contexts. This study supplies the required theoretical, conceptual and historical support necessary to the debates among educationalists and agents of the educational system on the implantation and use of the digital television within the school daily life. It recovers previous experiences of use of the television within the school during the post LDB period, besides tracking other research on the theme. The study gathers information on the origin and history of the conventional analogical television, the computer and the digital television, presenting the technical and theoretical precepts related to the integration of these three mentioned technologies. Afterwards, it develops a reflection which articulates the concepts, the context and the prospects for the educational use of the Digital Television in Brazil. It also proposes specific topics related to the marketing and development of further projects of implementation of the technology in the contemporary educational contexts in the domains of the Digital Television and computational resources. The methodology used was based on the literature, mainly by the secondary documentation method although primary documentation was required in lesser scale. The research shows that some of the guiding principles for the implementation and use of the digital television within the school contexts are the creation of conditions of access of the students and teachers to the technology for expansion of the collective construction of knowledge; the stance of means for the competences and abilities development which value the formation of the educational agents; the development of a universal network formed by different social groupings; integration of the use with the current curricular programs. The incorporation of the digital television in the school in an innovative perspective requires a revision of the political-pedagogical projects; extension of the investments for the technical-pedagogical qualification of its users in the school context; promotion for the development of experiences which explore its pedagogical possibilities; and creation of opportunities for the development of the cooperative and collaborative work.
