Överpresterar små bolag i en sektor som strukturellt missgynnar dem? : En studie om storlekseffekten i halvledarsektorn / Are mall Companies Outperforming in a Sector that Structurally Disadvantages them? : A Study of the Size Effect in the Semiconductor Sector

Eriksson, Caroline, Jakobsson, Rasmus January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to examine the relationship between firm size and stock return, otherwise known asthe size effect, within the semiconductor industry. We construct two portfolios each comprising the ten largest and smallest semiconductor companiesand conduct a back test between 2004-2015. We examine three allocation strategies: equal weight, mean variance, and equal risk contribution along three difference rebalancing periods. Our results show a negative relationship between firm size and risk adjusted return regardless ofallocation strategy. The results also show that size effect is not a proxy for fundamental differencesnor a misspecification of β.

Women, Disability, Care: Good neighbours or uneasy bedfellows?

Beckett-Wrighton, Clare January 2007 (has links)
No / Disabled activists and feminist thinkers both lay claim to ownership of `care'. To the disabled people's movement, care is a necessity on the road to equal rights and citizenship. To women, care relationships are premised in capitalist economic and family relationships and can be both oppressive, and, conversely, sources of personal identity claims. The two perspectives are different, and conflict. Oppositional claims are sited in practical resource giving decisions, and state resources have implications for the individuals concerned. Resource relationships between the state and individuals affect both practical help given and the location of the resourced group to the wider society. I argue that these claims are fundamentally oppositional and result in oppression. The relationship, when mediated by provision of care, inevitably becomes disempowering. Care provision is a function of a welfare state, and care policy will effectively empower one or other group. This oppressive dyad can be altered by fundamental re-assessment of disabled theorization and feminist action, carried through into state provision and reflecting feminist perspectives of ethical care.

Comparing and Contrasting Local School Board Policies That Govern Access to Public School Programs and Activities by Home Schooled Students in Virginia

Rowland, B. Keith 29 April 2005 (has links)
The primary guiding question proposed for this study is, what are the variations and commonalities in policies among the 132 school districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia that govern whether or not students who are educated at home have access to public school courses and extra-curricular activities? In order to obtain this information the study was conducted of two phases. The first phase consisted of a policy analysis in order to determine the scope and nature of home school policies across Virginia's 132 operational school districts, and whether they fall within the legal parameters established by state regulations and case law. The second phase involved ascertaining how school officials perceived local control of home schoolers' access to public school classes or extracurricular activities through a multiple case study. This phase involved interviewing the person designated to implement these policies from selected school districts. The intent was that the data analysis would provide the basis for recommending changes or perhaps no changes, in the state's role in governing home school access. / Ed. D.

Právní úprava odměňování žen a mužů v evropském právu / European legal regulation of the remuneration of women and men

Brabcová, Markéta January 2019 (has links)
European legal regulation of the remuneration of women and men Abstract This thesis focuses on the legal regulation of the principle of equal pay in European law. Despite the fact that the priciples of equality of men and women are anchored in the international, regional and national laws, the actual fulfulment of the principle of equal pay in the European countries is not satisfactory. This thesis is trying to provide a systematic overview of the relevant legal regulation of the principle of equal pay on the international and European level. Within the respective legal systems, this thesis focuses on the particularity of the regulation, on the existence of controll and enforcing mechanism and on the actual aplication of the principle of equal pay through these mechanisms. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the concepts essential for this thesis. In particular, it contains definitions of concepts of equality and discrimination. Furthermore, the concepts of sex, gender and diferences in remuneration are defined. The second chapter focuses on the legal regulation of equal pay as adopted by the UN. It analyses the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women and the relevant treaties of the International labour organisation, including the overview...

Student Access to Higher Education: A Historical Analysis of Landmark Supreme Court Cases Missouri ex. rel. Gaines v. Canada, Registrar of the University of Missouri, 1938, and Grutter v. Bollinger, 2003

Daniel, Ansley K. 07 August 2012 (has links)
ABSTRACT STUDENT ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION A HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF LANDMARK SUPREME COURT CASES MISSOURI EX. REL. GAINES V. CANADA, REGISTRAR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, 1938, AND GRUTTER V. BOLLINGER, 2003 by Ansley Knox Daniel The purpose of this study is to identify primary themes related to student access to higher education and establishing diversity in higher education classrooms through a comparative analysis of the 1938 Gaines v. Canada case and the 2003 Grutter v. Bollinger case. Both of these Supreme Court opinions have significantly impacted student access to higher education. The landmark ruling in Gaines inaugurated a new and ground-breaking series of legal victories that opened minority student access to higher education and eventually to secondary education. In Grutter, the Supreme Court upheld the use of race as one of many factors that can be used to consider in the student admissions process in higher education to encourage diversity in student populations and in leadership opportunities. Using a methodology of historiography of education law, the intention of this study is to expand the historical and legal implications of the Gaines and Grutter cases, focusing on the application of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and the relationship between the outcomes of the cases and the judicial interpretation employed by the justices. In Grutter, while considering narrow-tailoring and strict scrutiny to check for the legal development and implementation of affirmative action policies, the justices prioritize providing equal access to higher education for all students and ensuring meaningful diversity in university classrooms for an extended, but still limited, time period. It is valuable for historians of the law and members of the legal profession to consider the notion of active liberty articulated by Justice Stephen Breyer (2005) when developing their interpretation of the Equal Protection Clause and how it should be applied.

A Content Analysis Study on Middle School Curriculum Standards (by grade) of Types of Equal Sign

Shang-Guan, Wei-Yin 23 June 2010 (has links)
This study investigated the distribution and relation of types of equal signs in middle school. The focus is on interpretations of indices from algebra strand (by grade) in curriculum standards. The researcher used a content analysis method and followed the following procedure. She found all interpretations of indices of the equalities and inequalities signs in middle school. Then, she adopted the way of coding in types of equal signs by McNeil (2006). Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. There are four findings altogether. First, the higher the grade the more equalities and inequalities related interpretation indices in Algebra Strand. Second, there were most number of equalities and inequalities in four McNeil¡¦s types of equal signs in grade 7 than in the other two grades. Third, the amount of equalities and inequalities in different types of equal signs was not in proportion. Fourth, this distribution provided many opportunities for equal signs to be considered as relational symbols, but yielded various restrictions to students¡¦ development of algebraic concepts. The researcher also made recommendations for future researchers and practitioners: administrative officers, textbook editors, and school teachers.
