The engagement of educators with computers during the uptake of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).11 February 2009 (has links)
M.Ed.

Difference between two subsamples of patients evaluated by the neuropsychiatric therapeutic review committee, Veterans Administration Hospital, Lenwood Division, Augusta, Georgia, June, 1959 to Augusta, 1959Unknown Date (has links)
"The purpose of the study was to indicate differences of significance in the incidences of professional action between patients diagnosed as organic brain syndromes and patients diagnosed as functional psychoses. The incidences of professional action were results of expediting the recommendations of the Neuropsychiatric Therapeutic Review Committee Veterans Administration Hospital, Lenwood Division, Augusta, Georgia, for the seventy-five patients of the study sample. The two groups of patients derived from the dichotomy of the study sample on the basis of psychiatric diagnosis: twenty-four patients had established psychiatric diagnoses of organic brain syndromes, and fifty-one patients had established psychiatric diagnoses within the range of functional psychoses. Difference of significance in the incidences of professional action between the two subsamples have been studied"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1960." / "Submitted to the Graduate School of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Social Work." / In this work was studied the influence of the addition of 0.5 at. % of zirconium and gallium on praseodymium-based HD sintered magnets obtained using a mixture of alloys. The alloys used in this study were: Pr12.6Fe68.3Co11.6B6Zr0.5Ga1, Pr16Fe75.5B8Zr0.5, Pr13Fe80.5B6Zr0.5. The investigation started by measuring the magnetic properties and observing the microstructure of the magnets. After that, the magnets were annealed at 1000ºC for 2 hours followed by rapid cooling, in a total of 10 hours. This heat treatment was followed by 5 hours at the same temperature up to a total of 35 hours. Changes in the microstructure were compared to the change in the magnetic properties aiming at a proper understanding of the role of each added element in relation to the magnetically hard phase (phase Φ). It has been shown that gallium and zirconium act as grain refiners of the matrix phase Φ. Gallium acts in the grain and favoring of the shape stability and improvement of the magnetic properties. For the Pr14.3Fe71.9Co5.8B7Zr0.5Ga0.5 sintered magnet the evolution of the magnetic properties after 15 hours heat treatment was: remanence from (1.25±0.02) T to (1.30±0.02) T, intrinsic coercivity from (1.11±0.02) T to (0.87±0.02) T, squareness factor from (0.68±0.02) to (0.82±0.02) and energy product from (285±5) kJ/m3 to (317±5) kJ/m3. Zirconium has two effects on the sintered magnets. Firstly, avoiding random grain growth and enhancing anisotropy. However, by concentrating on the grain boundaries, yield reverse domains and is detrimental to the intrinsic coercivity. For the sintered Pr14.5Fe78B7Zr0.5 magnet the evolution of the magnetic properties achieved after a heat treatment of 15 hours was: remanence from (1.19±0.02) T to (1.25±0.02) T, coercivity from (0.74±0.02) T to (0.94±0.02) T, squareness factor from (0.88±0.02) to (0,85±0.02) and energy product from (258±5) kJ/m to (291±5) kJ/m. For the Pr3316Fe75.5B8Zr0.5 sintered magnet the evolution of magnetic properties after 20 hours heat treatment was: remanence from (1.17±0,02) T to (1.24±0.02) T, coercivity from (0.90±0,02) T to (1.22±0.02) T, squareness factor from (0,93±0,02) to (0.66±0.02) and energy product from (258±5) kJ/m3 to (291±5) kJ/m3.

In this thesis, we investigate the synthesis of wurtzite (Al,Ga)N heterostructures on SiC(0001) by reactive molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). We examine the impact of growth conditions on the structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of the films. MBE of group-III nitrides is almost entirely based on the use of an N2 plasma discharge for providing reactive N. However, an alternative and attractive candidate for producing N radicals is NH3, which decomposes on the growth front by a catalytic reaction even at comparatively low temperatures. The basic growth technique and surface chemistry of reactive MBE is introduced. The deposition of (Al,Ga)N buffer layers on SiC(0001) substrates is discussed. An ex-situ cleaning procedure for the SiC substrates is presented. An in-situ method for the reproducible growth of these buffers layers is developed based on reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). The layers have atomically smooth surfaces well suited for the growth of GaN/(Al,Ga)N heterostructures. The structural and optical properties of these buffers are compared to such layers grown by plasma-assisted MBE and metal organic vapor phase deposition (MOCVD), respectively. Compared to other III-V semiconductors hexagonal nitrides exhibit huge electrical polarization fields. GaN/(Al,Ga)N multiple quantum wells (MQWs) with different well thicknesses are deposited on GaN and (Al,Ga)N buffer layers, respectively. It is demonstrated that the electric field in the quantum wells (QWs) leads to a quantum-confined Stark shift of the QW emission, which thus can fall well below the bulk GaN band-gap energy. In the opposite, it is proved that the strain state of the QWs alone has little impact on the electric fields in MQWs. The optical properties of these heterostructures are studied by stationary and time-resolved photoluminescence and compared with the results of self-consistent Schrödinger-Poisson calculations. It is shown that the recombination dynamics in heavily doped MQWs (7 x 1018 cm-3) is still controlled by residual fields, contrary to the common assumption that flat-band conditions are achieved at this doping level. Furthermore, the influence of the interface roughness on the QW emission widths is analyzed. The growth of (Al,Ga)N/GaN heterostructure field effect transistors (HFETs) on semi-insulating (Al,Ga)N buffers is studied. Temperature dependent Hall measurements show a mobility of up to 750 cm2/Vs and 1400 cm2/Vs at 300 K and 77 K, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy reveals the (Al,Ga)N/GaN interface to be abrupt and the dislocation density to be too low to limit the HFET mobility. However, secondary ion mass spectroscopy detects a significant concentration of As in the channel region. Indeed, an excellent fit to the temperature dependence of the mobility is obtained by including scattering with As. The synthesis and analysis of highly reflective and conductive GaN/(Al,Ga)N Bragg reflectors is examined. The realization of these Bragg mirrors is based on the exact determination of the structural parameters by simulating x-ray diffraction profiles and corresponding reflectivity spectra. To prevent cracking from these thick stacks, a concept of strain-balanced multilayer structure is employed. It is demonstrated that the difference between the theoretical and the measured maximum reflectivity can be minimized by growing the Bragg mirrors under NH3 stable growth conditions.

Previous issue date: 2017-01-19 / This master?s thesis is composed of two parts: a short stories collection and an essay that analyses my own creative process. The project emerges from a synesthetic perception: monotonous and wavy, the milonga rhythm seems to synthetize the South American pampas - its place of origin. But could only the milonga cause this feeling? What would be this synthesis transposed to literature? The question comes from the reading of an essay named A est?tica do frio, wrote by Vitor Ramil (2004). For the author, the cold weather is the distinct element between the ?esthetic? of tropical Brazil and the cold one from the pampas? social imaginary. But, besides cold, isn?t there any other element? Hidden in the gaucho?s imaginary, wouldn?t there be another condition? The solitude ? this ?ultimate depth of human condition?, according to Octavio Paz (1984) ? defines and unites the gaucho to the world. By this hypothesis, the project proposes a literary work influenced by the geographical space.

A bitopological point-free approach to compactificationsKlinke, Olaf Karl January 2012 (has links)
This thesis extends the concept of compactifications of topological spaces to a setting where spaces carry a partial order and maps are order-preserving. The main tool is a Stone-type duality between the category of d-frames, which was developed by Jung and Moshier, and bitopological spaces. We demonstrate that the same concept that underlies d-frames can be used to do recover short proofs of well-known facts in domain theory. In particular we treat the upper, lower and double powerdomain constructions in this way. The classification of order-preserving compactifications follows ideas of B. Banaschewski and M. Smyth. Unlike in the categories of spaces or locales, the lattice-theoretic notion of normality plays a central role in this work. It is shown that every compactification factors as a normalisation followed by the maximal compactification, the Stone-Cech compactification. Sample applications are the Fell compactification and a stably compact extension of algebraic domains.

Previous issue date: 2013-03-27 / This research aims to analyze the social logics that operate in the functioning and performance of 'Traditionalism Gaucho' in Rio Grande do Sul and that can explain, with more or less consistency, significant projection that he acquired in this state even putting up as movement called "traditionalist" in the XXI century. We believe its projection can be explained, at least reasonably, from two different angles of analysis, namely, first, by investigating those properties or characteristics assumed by movement so it could be spread throughout the Rio Grande South (say acquire large membership) even under the condition of enormous ethnic and cultural diversity that the state has gaucho, and second, by investigating those properties that explain the temporal continuity that the Movement has shown, extending to the nowadays, while there were significant contextual changes of economic and social order since its founding until the present time. From these two dimensions we believe we can cover reasonable sociological properties of performance and functioning of traditionalism that explain the considerable projection that he acquired in Rio Grande do Sul.

The goal is to see how the outskirts of musicians, who had no space in the media before and who are the section of object to be published, reacted before having their stories published there. How was the process of publishing such reports and what happened to them after the publication of their reports, or what did not happen, are questions to be answered as well. The goal is also to check the news and social importance of the vehicle in order to give a fixed, weekly space for artists of all genres, which had no disclosure in traditional media until then. Aiming to represent or take a look in the analysis, we selected five artists at different times, which were the subject of materials in Stars outskirts, between 2009, when the section began, and 2016. Funk Representatives, pop, pagoda and frontiersman, who were interviewed in person and by email, told their stories before they have their material published and brought impressions and facts to support what happened next. After contextualizing journalism, popular journalism, and talking about popular newspapers in the world and the country in the first chapters, research dissects the history o Di?rio Ga?cho newspaper, its peculiarities as popular newspaper and its operation. Ahead, the work tells the story of the emergence of the section that gives space to the outskirts of artists, explains its various stages and shows the changes that Outskirts of Stars spent over seven years. In the interviews, the dissertation tries to analyze critically how the newspaper treated the artists in their stories, if the journal monitorized them and the progress that they had or not after the publication. In order to understand how artists saw themselves before the matter, which was his speech, this dissertation bails conceps used by Dominique Maingueneau in Discourse Analysis, which argues that the speaker's speech reveals the image he gives us a glimpse of himself in process. We identified through this analysis that the paper fulfills a social function more than proper news, aiming to make room for the young artists of the periphery as it does not apply some journalistic rigor to accompany them after the publication of their materials, for example. The newspaper also highlights his social front paper the reader when you try an even closer relationship with your community, by publishing stories outskirts of artists, beginners, who are often neighbors that reader who buys daily newspaper, making it sees in the newspaper, seeing that their community is "perceived" by the communication vehicle.

Soil-based analysis methods to aid the detection of cropmarks over buried featuresPring, Lleyton James January 2016 (has links)
Without contention, aerial surveying has been one of the most fundamental and effective tools in archaeological research. The mapping of cropmarks using aerial surveys, which appear over buries features, has revealed tens of thousands of new archaeological sites in Britain in the last few years. Cropmarks have most commonly been found when the weather is dry and in areas where soils drain quickly, causing crops to come under stress due to a lack of water. This knowledge informs archaeologists in the planning of surveys. However, targeting these areas in dry conditions introduces bias into the dataset and the rate of new discoveries is slowing. This research assesses the underlying geotechnical characteristics of soils within and adjacent to buried ditches at four field trial sites, to increase the understanding of why these cropmarks form and the conditions in which they appear. Analysis methods using existing archaeological and geotechnical data have been proposed to increase the knowledge of the conditions in which cropmarks form. The methods have been tested and the results showed that cropmarks formed in areas of clay-dominated soils in wet conditions, and cropmarks were recorded across a much wider range of soil-water conditions than was expected from current knowledge.
