Monte, Carlos Eduardo. January 2019 (has links)
Giovanni Drogo is the hero that, right after he puts on his officer's uniform, experiments an existential emptiness that makes him, in response, state: "What a nonsense!". Taken by this feeling, often the inertia will be the only possible answer this protagonist will offer while facing daily requests. Starting from this premise, articulating literary theory, philosophy and context, we stand up to identify the reasons that establish the heroism of Drogo. After the preface, the introduction chapter follows, at which we develop some considerations about the image of the hero, trying to demonstrate how, during the 18th and 19th centuries, this concept goes through a noticeable modification, thanks to the ascension and sedimentation of the novel, as we know it today. Between the introduction and the final chapter are three main chapters that shape, together, the demonstration of the defended thesis: that the reasons of Drogo respond, necessarily, to a new way to connect and to discover the world. Resignation, refusal and renouncement connect to each of these chapters, which start always from a fundamental scene, followed by its examination. We reached the final chapter with the possibility of identifying not just the position o... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Developed in the research area of contemporary Brazilian young adult literature, this dissertation has as its object of study 42 narratives written by Giselda Laporta Nicolelis (1938), which circulate under this rubric. In the context of this investigation, the chosen titles are grouped into three major narrative categories (adventure narratives, social narratives, and psychological narratives), according to the models proposed by Ceccantini (2000). In order to reach a general understanding of the fictional universe created by Nicolelis, this dissertation follows the journey of her heroes through a systematic analysis of both thematic and formal elements of the narratives that compose the corpus, as well it discusses issues related to the production, circulation and consumption of the author's young adult literature, theoretically grounded in Pierre Bourdieu's (2007) work about the market of symbolic goods. This analysis evidenced that the author's narratives are representative of a certain lineage of Brazilian realist/veristic literature (Zilberman, 2003), in which heroes (and, by extension, their readers) are launched in a contemporary journey of the social illness derived from the underdevelopment of Brazilian society - in its urban, capitalist, and industrialized dimension -, always away from the positions of power. In the illusory and quixotic attempt to solve indissoluble social problems, guided by a narrator which has an adultcentric point-of-view, the heroes are inserted in the context of dichotomies that pervade both children's and young adult's literature since its origins. Among them, we can highlight the following: the asymmetry between adult and child; utilitarian discourse versus literary discourse; realism versus fantasy; normativity versus rupture...

Pereira, Luís Fernando dos Reis 27 May 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T18:18:36Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Luis Fernando dos Reis Pereira.pdf: 15618526 bytes, checksum: 7c4a48c46f9ef0aaaa328e95ab03933c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-05-27 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This thesis analyzes the fictional narratives of the comics books series Sandman, written by the British author Neil Gaiman, originally published by DC Comics and, in Brazil, by Globo, from 1989 to 1996, noting the translation and appropriation of elements from different cultural contexts for the construction of the narrative, in order to demonstrate that Sandman has a higher tendency to mobility and articulation than the superhero s comic books, which generally emphasize the structures of permanence and isolation. We investigate how the principle of identity, developed by certain core of Western thought is used, as well as different characteristics from other cultural backgrounds, bringing into play concepts such as centrality and periphery, reality/fiction, stability/instability, etc. In support of our journey, we turn to theories about the processes and semiotic systems of culture, exploring and articulating studies of Yuri Lotman, Severo Sarduy, Amálio Pinheiro, Jesus Martín-Barbero and Edgar Morin, while the theories of Scott McCloud and Will Eisner served as basis for studying the recent and still in process language of the "comics" as art and media; we counted, as well, with the major contributions of Bakhtin s theories of novel and literary genres carnavalization, to support aspects of narrative language on the studied comics. The Sandman series, with 75 editions and some special publications, combines aspects of the American superhero comics, mythology, pop culture, literature, religion, paganism, magic, fantasy, gothic horror, historical facts, philosophical references, elements of the classic epic and folklore to tell the story of Dream, also called Oneiros, Morpheus, etc., ruler of the Dreaming, and their complex relations with humanity and other beings, including his siblings Destiny, Death, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium; modern gods and those who have been forgotten; their mortal and immortal lovers; Lucifer and his demons; and even the angels. In the periphery of such a mosaic plot, perverting the classic epic elements, remnants of the drama of a missing hero, unfinished and absurd, unable to remain equal to himself, and who insists in to inhabit different borders: islands between reality and the Dreaming; soft regions where time becomes malleable (local of translations between the familiar and the foreign), and his own kingdom, which is a metaphorical border between life and death. Such arrangements allow the discussion of the signic operating environment proposed by Lotman, the semiosphere, and its mobile/translation borders, a key concept to understanding the trends of permanence and change of the cultural texts Finally, Dream, occasional actor, the personification of the dream itself, questions, over the stories, the objective notions of identity, truth and immutability, as well as we may question, similarly, the principle of identity in self-centered and self-referencing cultures based on binary logic and mainly closed systems that tend to generate several ways of exclusion, through the idea of truth and tolerance, unlike the Sandman s realm environments, linked to Derrida's discussion of the idea of hospitality / A tese analisa as narrativas ficcionais da série de revistas em quadrinhos Sandman, do autor britânico Neil Gaiman, publicadas originalmente nos EUA pela editora estadunidense DC Comics e no Brasil, a princípio, pela editora Globo, entre 1989 e 1996, a partir da tradução e apropriação de elementos provenientes de diferentes contextos culturais para as construções da narrativa, com o objetivo de demonstrar que Sandman apresenta maior tendência à mobilidade e à articulação do que os gibis de super-heróis, que geralmente enfatizam as estruturas de permanência e isolamento.

Watchmen

Duarte, Rafael Soares 24 October 2012 (has links)
This thesis is an analysis of the comic book Watchmen, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, and is divided into three parts: an analysis of the reading process carried out in comic books, a reading of some Watchmen's particularities and a formal approach of the work towards modern poetry. First, the process of reading and understanding in comics are considered in relation to some ideas of semiology, to reception theory and to phenomenology of perception. From these propositions, the importance of the textual gaps on comics, the empty spaces between each frame, as a space for the reader's interpretative projection, is studied. It then analyses Watchmen as a parable for the Cold War and its relation to the tragic narrative, where the picture of the superhero is compared to the tragic hero's compositional features of various epochs. Lastly, it relates the work's narrative strategies to formal procedures of modern visual poetry. This relation will connect parts of the narrative, chapters and the very materiality of the novel to formal aspects of Stepháne Mallarmé's work, the caligrams of Guillaume Apollinaire, and the thematic self-referentiality of Brazilian Concretism.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the resumption of the classic hero image, present in Homer’s texts, into the Iberian chronicles of low Middle Ages. Specifically, we will get focus into the XIIIth and XIVth centuries, in as much as the Iberian chronicles that have been made in this period had as identity the assign of building a good image of their kings. This movement delineates an attempt for the consolidation of Iberian nationality feelings – but, is important to highlight, it cannot be confused with the national knowingness of Absolutists States – it allows us to notice the reinforcement of the regionalist and dynastic feelings. We seek to perceive the meaning alteration from the Greek hero for the medieval hero, taking in account the concept of virtue considered in Middle Ages for the “men’s ideal type” in the chronicles, from the chivalrous moral in craze. For that, we will employ the Crónica Troiana, since this is the medieval write which better represents the histories of mythology and ancient epic. Our first interest consists of thinking about how the Crónica Troiana was made and from witch papers it could born. Beyond this one, produced in Alfonso’s XI court (in Castile) we intend to argue about the hero picture in General Estoria of Alfonso X and in La Crónica Geral de Espanha de 1334, written by Dom Pedro, Count of Barcelos. Those papers present us histories about their ancestors and bounces that they are models to be followed. We also propound to think about the reasons that encouraged the compilers from Alfonso’s XI court to write about Trojan history, the different moral values present in the way the legend was narrated in times and, in the end, the incidence in Middle Ages of other models that can correspond to a heroic figure, as the saints and the kings.

O crepúsculo em Santiago: a jornada do peregrino rumo à religiosidade e a descoberta analítica

This investigation takes place effectively when we define the field of knowledge that is able to help us to understand the phenomena; according to this statement we started with Anthropology, which help us to illuminate the pilgrimage considering the social movements around the rites, the religion, spirituality and the search of meaning present in the human history until these days. The meanings of each rite, symbol, and gesture, have suffered modifications along the history, however they preserve their essence. The pursuit of the modern pilgrim s vision concerning the transformations that happen along the Caminho , lead us to do research among some of the pilgrims of Santiago and check the hypotheses proposed in this project. In this sense, we observed that the experience is capable of reconnecting the person to his or her religiosity and the transcendence enabled through the rite. Finally, we analyze the Hero s Journey of Joseph Campbell and according to the Jung s thoughts, establishing relations between the myth structure and the archetypical expressions. Beginning with an analysis of the data obtained in this research, we found elements that reveal the capability of transformation generated by the rite of pilgrimage to Santiago, a fundamental component in the development process of the self / A redescoberta da peregrinação no Caminho de Santiago de Compostela, observada no final do século XX, desperta um desejo de investigação sobre suas causas e desdobramentos na vida de quem se propõe a percorrê-lo em plena pósmodernidade.
