ABSTRACT This doctorate theory is resulted of the historical research done around the educator Maria Luiza of Sousa Alves when of this positioning in relation to the feminine education in Bahia and they has for general objective to analyze the contributions of Maria Luiza of Sousa Alves for the education in Bahia, especially, for the feminine education in the beginning of the séc. For this purpose, we analyze how the textbooks are gender relations between men and women in their content and verify that question or reproduce socially accepted roles for men and women. We took as empirical material of our research textbooks of the first seven years of schooling primary school of public administration in particular the Portuguese language (reading book), Moral and Civic Education, Crafts and Mathematics. Away from the pedagogical conceptions of the textbook, the study sees through the assumptions of the book "male domination" of Bourdieu, the textbook in question as a special area of diffusion of stereotypes, gender differences between man and woman They tend to represent the first as provider and the second as a subaltern / submissive. In this respect, the results of this research suggest that school education through textbooks of primary education in Mozambique tends to institutionally reproduce gender differences when transcribing arbitrary and unequal gender relations as the ideal type of behavioral patterns of gender, showing the place and the activities that should be occupied by women and not by men and vice versa. What perpetuates the students the male cultural arbitrary that happens to be exposed and taken as desirable role model, although that hides within itself a discrimination against women, its concealment and submission to this male social order to repress and confines doxa of patriarchal domination gender.

ABSTRACT This present study investigated mothers and grandmothers' participation in the school inclusion process of children with visual disability, in Infant Education, articulating with socio-economic and gender questions. It was about a historic-cultural proposal among three categories – gender, disability and inclusion – having as a focus the accounting of women responsible for care and education of children with visual disability. The reflections about disability and inclusion were based on Vygotsky's studies of development, learning and disability. The epistemological perspective which supported discussions on gender and justified a methodological option in prioritizing feminine discourse was the Feminist Standpoint Theory. Data collection was realized in Centro de Intervenção Precoce do Instituto de Cegos da Bahia, located in the city of Salvador, where children aged from 0 to 5 years who presented visual disability were attended. It was a qualitative case study approach and semistructured interview was done in 10 women. It was possible to note through the respondents' accountings: overload of work due to conciliation attempts of laboral activity, care of son, home and specific service; selecting school, school enrollment and inclusion follow-up seen as predominantly women's duties; maternity, lack of familiar and social support network to share duties related to children and daily routine of specialized service considered to be excluding and dificulty factors for insertion and permanence of women in the labour market; low income and lack of vacancy in public school resulting, in some cases, in deficient inclusion process in small scale schools without infrastruture and qualified docent; accountings of rights violation related to education of children with visual disability and attitudes of feminine fragility and submission in the face of exclusion situations experienced by children; acknowledgment of the importance of early intervetion and specialized educational as contributing factors to the quality of inclusive process. Key words: School Inclusion. Visual Disability. Gender.

A field work was carried out that involved the realization of interviews with transgenders of different ethnicities, social classes and types of university that they attend. The results obtained indicate that access to the university was facilitated by specific achievements of the trans movement, but also by broader ones, among which the following stand out: legal implementation and the right to use the social name for transvestites and transsexuals those who have adhered to legislation and national assessments such as ENEM; the government's inclusion policies for access to low-income ethnic and racial minorities by offering positions at federal and state public universities by the SISU system and offering scholarships at private and confessional universities by PROUNI. Also fundamental were social projects of the type "preparatory course", that aimed at transvestites and transsexuals. On the other hand, the cases of public policies of permanence are still isolated when the trans population is related, without the existence of specificity in the supply and maintenance of public policies that contribute to this. Have been reported some hardship related to tuition fees, the use of the bathroom according gender identity, access to student housing and foodaid, as well as the lack of adequate treatment by teachers and staff who are unable to deal with transgender people (gender bias). Participation in transgender militancy within the university context has become important for the transformation of the environment they inhabit, contributing to the change of paradigms, acceptance of their subtleties, recognition of rights and respect for human diversity.

When considering the school as a device to maintain the relations focused on power, their gender expressions were vital for this process to be put to practice in an even more intensified manner – sometimes they were made invisible, while others they were given extreme visibility in order to serve as examples of "abnormal" behavior/identity. The most recurrent disciplinary devices defined by gender during such narratives were related to the birth name, the school uniform, the collective restrooms and Physical Education classes. Several attempts of resisting such devices were observed, in addition to strategies aimed at “compensating” discrimination, such as being the best student in some subjects, being good at sports or seeking interpersonal relationships with other “rebellious” students in order to obtain acceptance and/or strength before normalizations. The symbolic violence was present by the use of sexist nicknames, both by students and teachers, who many times have endorsed such anti-social and violent behaviors in their most diverse forms against the interviewees. They were blamed, both by the teaching and managing entities, for the violence suffered. When the issue of “race” was inserted in the scenario – as in the case of two black interviewees – the violence suffered by them would become even more evident. The acknowledgement of their precariousness and vulnerability is necessary to foment the creation of specific public policies, by means of affirmative actions, aiming at removing them from the fringes of society and making their lives more livable.

Kovaleski, Nadia Veronique Jourda 13 December 2013 (has links)
Currently, western universities are where research is mostly carried out. If western history shows some women getting into those temples of knowledge, today, they account for a considerable number of faculty members/researchers. A revision of literature revealed that women and men do not have the same job opportunities when it comes to the career as a faculty member/researcher. Therefore, a comparative analysis of gender relations in the graduate programs at the Federal University of Technology of the State of Paraná (UTFPR) and the University of Technology of Compiègne - France (UTC) was seen as relevant. The aim of the research was twofold: to find out whether women from these universities of technology faced discriminatory practices or, instead, a greater acceptance and to investigate the existence of the famous “glass ceiling” that limits women`s job promotion. The research was qualitative with content analysis and was characterized as comparative. The data collection was conducted with a semi-structured interview with 16 faculty members/researchers from the UTFPR and 17 faculty members/researchers from the UTC. The findings and conclusion of this research are that the career as a faculty member/researcher calls for a great sacrifice and it is more socially adapted to men than women for two main reasons: first, a bigger investment on the part of women than men concerning reproductive work, and second, the existence of mechanisms of discrimination practices in the professional university career that hinder women`s professional advancement.

Silva, Maví Consuelo 30 August 2013 (has links)
This paper aims to discuss the influences of gender issues in formal and informal evaluation processes in order to identify situations that may lead to exclusion of boys and girls in our schools. Therefore, we rely on the authors as Freitas (2005, 2006, 2011), Sordi (2009), Villas Boas (2006), Fernandes (2006, 2008), (Carvalho (2001.2004, 2011), Blonde (1995, 2003), Scott (1995), Connell (1995), Navy (2009), Dal'igna (2004), among others. These authors help us understand that both gender issues as the evaluation questions in its formal and informal when analyzed, especially in light of school reality, are impregnated with socially constructed conceptions that are reflected in the school. The survey was conducted in two rooms of the 5th year of elementary school, and the genres of research were qualitative and quantitative. In the development of this study, the research followed those steps: School Rules analysis, grade maps, class journals; Mapping of records of the evaluation results of the 1st to 5th year of elementary school; Analysis of official government documents in education; development, implementation and analysis of questionnaires answered by the students and the teachers with issues about gender and evaluation; Mapping of the evaluation results of the students of two classes surveyed during 2012; Observation in the classroom; interview with the teachers of the surveyed groups. During the research we found that gender issues are not dealt with by the school and that this reinforces some exclusion processes that are linked to these questions. Studies also tell us that on the surveyed groups most of the children who have lower evaluative results are boys, which, in the evaluation of teachers, are considered undisciplined. Of the children with poor results, 50% are black. Some of these children who had low evaluative income have not completed the school year in that school. The study also reveals that on the observed groups, generally the girls have better results in formal assessments than boys, which are considered, by the teachers, more undisciplined and difficult to work with. The girls, on the other hand, are considered more docile and attentive than boys. The observations made by teachers concerning the behavior of boys and girls also reflect in the formal evaluative results, therefore the informal assessments, the value judgment of teachers in relation to the behavior of the students influence the results of formal assessments. In this sense, in order to seek ways to try to overcome the exclusion situations experienced in the evaluation process, we believe that the principles of popular education can be configured as an important parameter to begin discussions on gender and evaluation in schools. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

The realization of this study is justified by the perception of the difficulty of society, and consequently of the school, in dealing with the diversities, especially those that originate in the different identities of gender and sexual orientations. Gender relations are socially constructed and therefore permeated by power relations, causing differences to generate inequalities and result in violence against women and against LGBTI people, who historically have their rights denied. In this context, black, poor and subalternized girls, women and LGBTI people suffer from male chauvinist, but also from other types of oppression, which makes it necessary to use gender as a category of analysis from the perspective of intersectionality, to understand how diverse types of oppression operate simultaneously on people's lives. The school carries within itself the possibility of combating prejudice and the inequalities produced historically, but for this it is imperative that educators be trained to look strangely at instituted stereotypes. Based on this, the formative meetings were held and were constituted as object of analysis of this research, with professionals from two municipal schools of Elementary School of São Paulo. The training proposal was elaborated based on the ideas of authors who think about teacher education in a critical and reflexive perspective, as well as on the assumptions of the Social-Historical-Cultural Activity Theory, the fruit of the works of Vygotsky (1934/2007), Leontiev (1978/2004) and Engeström (1987). Gender and intersectionality studies have also been taken as the basis for how gender inequalities have been / are produced. The methodology used was that of the Collaborative Critical Research, which attributes to language the mediating and constitutive role of human relations and has the premise of dialogue and commitment to the transformation of reality. The data were produced through three procedures: questionnaires delivered to the participants; collection of census data in electronic portals and institutional documents of schools and transcription of the recording of training meetings. The analysis of the data was based on the actions of describing, informing, confronting and reconstructing, pertinent to the reflective process. The main results showed that it is possible for a formation to cause changes in the discourses of educators about gender relations and intersectionalities, making them understand the role of the school in the fight against prejudice, racism and LGBTIphobia. It was possible to realize, however, that it is necessary to offer a training that also allows the experience of concrete activities and not only the discussion of ideas, so that people feel more mobilized to carry out activities with the theme of the training in the classroom, thus becoming real agents of change / Esta pesquisa foi realizada com o objetivo de analisar criticamente os possíveis desdobramentos de uma proposta de formação docente nos discursos referentes às relações de gênero e interseccionalidades.

The Brazilian education experiences the greater participation and better performance of women, however racial belonging, gender and sexuality are markers that result in inequalities observed in the persistence of disparities in education. Oral history is the methodology used to record the voices of six students of vocational high school of the state system school. Their life stories contains information on the understanding of being a woman in Brazilian society, in education, in the professional market, the determinants for the choice of technical courses as well as for understanding the sexual segregation residence in technical courses. The reports showed evidence of the presence of constituent processes of socialization of gender roles, hierarchies in professional careers, as well as the tensions that mark the entry of women in predominantly male courses. It is also noticed the lack of actions and achievements of the feminist movement that contributed to transformations in the lives of Brazilian women in recent decades, and little commitment to a political action in favor of women. We tried to explain the challenge of education for effective mechanisms to expand the future possibilities for women as well as for the construction of pedagogical practices committed to equality, freedom and fairness.
