Neste trabalho, estudamos as estruturas em língua portuguesa em que ocorre a chamada indeterminação do sujeito. A partir da análise de textos publicados em jornais de grande circulação nos estados do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo, analisamos as principais características, sintáticas, semânticas e discursivas da indeterminação do sujeito, diferençando-a da indeterminação do papel temático exercido pelo sujeito (de ordinário, agente). Ressalta-se a importância de analisar o verbo, com suas propriedades, para melhor apreciar o fenômeno da indeterminação. Levantamos as principais noções de sujeito e de indeterminação do sujeito, em diversos estudiosos da Língua Portuguesa. Cuidamos em compará-las e em verificar os critérios (sintáticos, semânticos, mórficos e discursivos) implicados na indeterminação do sujeito. Outrossim, buscamos em livros didáticos e em gramáticas escolares (Ensinos Fundamental e Médio) a forma como o assunto é introduzido, as definições, os exercícios, etc, de forma a podermos compará-las e refletir sobre elas / In this work, we study the structures in Portuguese language where occurs the so called indetermination of the subject. Traremos, aqui, os resultados obtidos a partir da análise das variáveis sociais nas quais os informantes estão estratificados, e seguiremos a hipótese de que o quadro atual de variação das estratégias pronominais de indeterminação é resultado de mudanças desencadeadas pelo contato do português com as línguas indígenas e africanas, nos primeiros séculos da formação da sociedade brasileira. Observaremos, também, se existem diferenças significativas entre os resultados encontrados nas localidades. As análises aqui realizadas seguem os pressupostos teóricos e metodológicos da Sociolinguística Variacionista (LABOV, 1972) e nossas hipóteses se relacionam diretamente com o processo de Transmissão Linguística Irregular (BAXTER, 1995; LUCCHESI & BAXTER, 2009) e da realidade bipolarizada do português brasileiro (LUCCHESI, 2015). Na nossa análise, foram identificadas cinco estratégias pronominais de indeterminação do sujeito: a gente, você, eles, nós e Ø + verbo na terceira pessoa do singular (Ø + V3PS). Essas variantes foram analisadas de acordo com as variáveis linguísticas Realização fonética do sujeito indeterminado, Desinência verbal, Paralelismo formal, Referência ao falante, Tipo de verbo, Tipo de frase, Nível de referencialidade do agente e Modo, e com as variáveis sociais Sexo, Faixa etária, Estada fora da comunidade, Escolaridade e Localidade. / In this dissertation we study the pronominal strategies expressing the indetermination of the subject in vernacular Portuguese of Bahia, analyzing speech samples from four neighborhoods of the city of Salvador: Liberdade, Cajazeiras, Itapuã and Subúrbio. We present results obtained from the analysis of the social variables whereby the informants are stratified, and interprets them from the perspective of the hypothesis that the current pattern of variation in pronominal strategies of indetermination is the result of changes triggered by the contact of Portuguese with indigenous and African languages during the first centuries of the formation of Brazilian society. We will also observe if there are significant differences between the results found in the different neighbourhoods. The analyses carried out here follow the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972) and our hypotheses are directly related to the concept of the Irregular Linguistic Transmission process (BAXTER, 1995; LUCCHESI & BAXTER, 2009) and to the bipolarized reality of Brazilian Portuguese (LUCCHESI, 2015). In our analysis, five pronominal strategies of indeterminacy of the subject were identified: nós, você, eles, a gente and Ø + verb in the third person singular (Ø + V3PS). These variants were analyzed according to their potential conditioning by linguistic variables - phonetic realization of the indeterminate subject, verbal agreement, formal parallelism, reference to the speaker, type of verb, type of sentence, level of agent referentiality and mood of verb; and in terms of the social variables of gender, age, periods spent away from community, schooling and neighbourhood.

Buscaram-se não só as formas consideradas canônicas pelas gramáticas normativas, tais como as formas verbais sem sujeito lexical expresso como o verbo na 3ª pessoa do plural (Ø+V3PP), o verbo na 3ª pessoa mais o pronome “se” (Ø+V+SE) ou ainda o verbo no infinitivo impessoal (Ø+VINF); mas também outras estratégias como o uso de “você”, “a gente”, “nós”, “eles”, voz passiva sem agente (VPSA), o verbo na terceira pessoa do singular sem sujeito lexicalmente expresso (Ø+V3PS) e sintagmas nominais como, por exemplo, “o sujeito”, “o indivíduo” e “um homem”. O trabalho foi desenvolvido à luz do Sociofuncionalismo, no qual se tem o enquadramento teórico-metodológico da Sociolinguística Variacionista e a compreensão dos usos linguísticos na perspectiva do Funcionalismo. Identificaram-se os contextos extralinguísticos (período de publicação das cartas/peças teatrais e o gênero textual), linguísticos (flexão do verbo, tipo de oração, transitividade verbal, preenchimento do sujeito, estrutura do núcleo do predicado, concordância com o argumento interno do verbo, posição do argumento interno do verbo, e a ausência versus presença de preposição antes do verbo no infinitivo mais o emprego do “se”) e funcionais (função da indeterminação e o grau de indeterminação). Os dados, após sua coleta, foram submetidos à quantificação através do programa estatístico-probabilístico GoldVarb X. Os resultados mostraram que os textos baianos, publicados entre nos séculos XIX e XX, registram maior uso da forma canônica Ø+V+SE e inovam ao considerar a estratégia pronominal “nós”, como a segunda mais usada. Além disso, analisar as variáveis funcionais que tratam da função e do grau de indeterminação é imprescindível para melhor compreender a indeterminação do sujeito nesse período / This research investigated the main strategies to mark the indetermination of the subject in written texts in Bahia - Brazil (Letters of Readers, Letters of Writers and Theatrical Texts), in the 19th and 20th centuries. We intended not only the forms considered canonical by normative grammars, such as verbal forms without lexical subject expressed as the verb in the 3rd person plural (Ø+V3PP), the verb in the 3rd person plus the pronoun se (Ø+V+SE) or the verb in the impersonal infinitive (Ø+VINF); but also other structures such as the use of você, a gente, nós, eles, passive without agent (VPSA), the 3rd person singular verb without subject lexically expressed (Ø+V3PS) and noun phrases such as o sujeito, indivíduo and um homem. This work was developed in the light of Sociofunctionalism, which has the theoretical-methodological framework of Variationist Sociolinguistics and the understanding of linguistic uses in the perspective of Functionalism. The extralinguistic contexts were identified (the period of publication of the letters/theatrical texts and the textual genre), as well as the linguistic contexts (inflection of the verb, type of sentence, verbal transitivity, subject filling, predicate nucleus structure, concordance with the internal argument of the verb, position of the internal argument of the verb, and absence versus presence of preposition before the verb in the infinitive plus the use of the se) and functional contexts (function of indetermination and degree of indetermination). Afher ther collection, the data were submitted to quantification through the statistical-probabilistic program GoldVarb X. The results showed that the Bahian texts, published between the 19th and 20th centuries, register greater use of the canonical form Ø+V+SE. In addition, they innovate to consider the pronominal strategy nós as the second most used. In addition, analyzing the functional variables that deal with the function and the degree of indetermination is essential to better understand the indetermination of the subject in this period.

Admitindo que a linguagem permite ao homem interpretar o mundo em que vive, busca-se apresentar os mecanismos de indeterminação do sujeito como uma forma de referenciação indeterminada. Para tanto, foram investigadas, criticamente, as principais noções de sujeito e de sua indeterminação, em diversos estudiosos da língua portuguesa, desde épocas remotas até os dias atuais, comparando-se os critérios (sintáticos, semânticos, mórficos e discursivos) apresentados nesses estudos. A partir da análise do corpus, verifica-se que os diversos mecanismos de indeterminação possuem graus específicos e que se podem permutar. Além disso, fica patente que há tipos verbais afins a certas estruturas de sujeito indeterminado. From the analysis of texts of the genre interview published in Veja magazine (section ' yellow pages ') analyzes the main syntactic, semantic, pragmatic and discourse features of an indefinite subject . Assuming that the language allows man to interpret the world in which he lives, we seek to present the mechanisms of indetermination of the subject as a form of indeterminate referring. For this purpose, we investigated critically the main notions of subject and its indeterminacy , many scholars in the Portuguese language , since ancient times to the present day , comparing the criteria (syntactic, semantic, and discursive morphic) presented in these studies . From the analysis of the corpus, it appears that the various mechanisms of indeterminacy have specific degrees and can be interchanged. Moreover, it is clear that there are verbal related to certain types of indeterminate structures subject . Thus, the indefinite referring constructed from the syntactic place subject is characterized as powerful discursive strategy

CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Diante do quadro de alterações na gramática do PB como sintomas da remarcação do Parâmetro do Sujeito Nulo PSN por que tem passado a língua, investigo a emergência do pronome de 2ª. pessoa com marcação genérica vocêgen, largamente empregado na língua falada como forma alternativa aos pronomes: nulo genérico e não referencial, se, a gente e nós. Esta tese parte da hipótese de que vocêgen exerce no PB a função de pronome indeterminador à semelhança do clítico se, cujo apagamento ou deixa vazia essa posição ou é substituído por vocêgen. Associo essa possibilidade às mudanças sintáticas processadas no PB: apagamento do clítico se; surgimento do paradigma de pronomes fracos nominativos no lugar do sistema pronominal Agr como compensação da perda do sujeito nulo referencial (Kato, 2000); perda da propriedade de genericidade do pronome a gente; emergência de construções existenciais com ter; tendência ao preenchimento da posição de sujeito que caminha para a perda do nulo não referencial e genérico, em uma clara evidência do encaixamento linguístico da variação. O modelo teórico-metodológico seguido é o da Sociolinguística Paramétrica proposto por Kato & Tarallo (1989). Assim, tendo em vista a variação interlinguística, tem-se como princípio norteador da discussão formal das variantes a teoria gramatical de Princípios & Parâmetros, de Chomsky (1981), e avanços em sua versão minimalista (Kato, 2000; Holmberg, 2010). O ponto relevante deste trabalho em relação à implementação de vocêgen está na proposição de que o interior de INFL é o lócus onde o pronome é inicialmente inserido antes de ser movido para a posição de sujeito gramatical das construções de terex nas quais o pronome não estabelece relação temática com o verbo. Considerando a variação paramétrica, um estudo comparativo com o PE comprova que quanto à realização de sujeitos indefinidos, o PB e o PE também exemplificam contrastes relevantes, confirmando a hipótese de que as mudanças sintáticas que estão desencadeando alteração de valor do PSN é um fenômeno que acomete somente o PB. / Considering the alterations in the grammar of PB as symptoms of the remarking of the Null Subject Parameter - PSN that the language has passed, I investigate the emergence of the 2nd person pronoun with generic mark-up, widely used in the spoken language as an alternative form to the pronouns: null non referential and generic, se , nós and a gente This thesis is based on the hypothesis that vocêgen is used on the function of indeterminating pronoun like the clitic se, whose deletion leaves this position empty or is substituted by vocêgen. I associate this possibility with the syntactic changes processed in PB: deletion of clitic se; emergence of the nominative weak pronoun paradigm in place of the pronominal Agr system as compensation for the loss of the referential null subject (Kato, 2000); loss of the property of genericity of the pronoun a gente ; emergence of existential constructions with ter ; tendency to fill the position of subject that moves to the loss of the non referential and generic null, in clear evidence of the linguistic embedding of the variation. The theoretical-methodological model followed is that of Parametric Sociolinguistics proposed by Kato & Tarallo (1989). Thus, in view of the interlinguistic variation, this thesis adopt as guiding principle Chomsky's grammatical theory of Principles & Parameters (1981), and advances of this theory in its minimalist version (Kato, 2000; Holmberg, 2010). The relevant point of this work in relation to the implementation of vocêgen is in the proposition that the interior of INFL is the locus where the pronoun is initially inserted before being moved to the position of grammatical subject of the constructions of terex in which the pronoun does not establish thematic relation with the verb. Considering the parametric variation, a comparative study with the EP proves that in relation to the performance of indefinite subjects, BP and PE also exemplify relevant contrasts, confirming the hypothesis that the syntactic changes that are triggering alteration of the PNS value is a phenomenon that affects only PB. / Tese (Doutorado)
