Adult Learners’ Preferred Methods of Learning Preventative Heart Disease Care

The purpose of this study was to investigate the preferred method of learning about heart disease by adult learners. This research study also investigated if there was a statistically significant difference between race/ethnicity, age, and gender of adult learners and their preferred method of learning preventative heart disease care. This research study further explored the effectiveness of adult education on reducing or preventing serious, life-threatening heart disease, including heart attack. This research is of significant importance as the adult population and age in many developed countries is increasing. It was anticipated that the study would unearth the effectiveness of various educational methods of providing information to adult learners to inform them how to prevent heart attacks. For this quantitative investigation, participants were limited to students enrolled in at least one college course (three credit hours) at the Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton campus who were 25 years of age or older. During the course of this study, three methods of learning; formal, informal, and non-formal, as well as two delivery methods; online and traditional, were evaluated. Over one third of the study’s participants (35%) preferred to receive healthrelated information via email (35%). This major finding was statistically significant (x² (6) = 82.171; p < .001). Further, statistically significant findings were manifest for study participants for omnibus age grouping and in the 25-35 years of age grouping, for those who were White and Hispanic by ethnic background, and for both females and males participating in this study. The results of this research may assist health department administrators in utilizing varying methods for distributing health information, keeping the preferred knowledge acquisition method of students on college and university campuses especially in mind. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2016. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

M.Bibl. / Television producers form a unique user group that mainly requires information regarding audio-visual material in order to produce or to enhance a television programme Information services can contribute to the successful completion of a programme by making information available. The aim of this study is to determine whether information services can enhance information for producers by adding value. The question is also asked which value-added level of information is required. A literature study was done to -examine the term "value-added" in order to be able to apply it to the information needs of television producers; -study the work environment of television producers in order to determine their information needs. An empirical investigation was executed by means of a layered random sampling test. Structured interviews were conducted by means of a questionnaire with a random portion of the television producer corps of the SABC. Personal details were gathered, as well as the use of information sources and services within the SABC and to which value- added level of information they require for a production. Value-added levels were based on Taylor's value-added continuum which consists of information that is enhanced to level two, Information Knowledge, followed by level three, Productive Knowledge, which leads to level four, Action. A television production is completed in four phases, that is the planning and research phase, filming phase, editing phase and final mixing phase .. The results showed that during the planning and research phases television producers require access to all possible information sources and services within the SABC. The information specialist can add value to the first level of value adding. In certain cases the television producers require information during the editing phase, during which the information specialist can add value up to the third level. The results of the research were distilled into a matrix, structured to indicate the levels of added-value to the television producer. Recommendations were made in order to provide a better information service.

A Simulation Study for a Computerized Approach to Teacher Certification Information

The concern that prompted this study is the inadequacy of the present system of handling teacher certification information, especially as it involves the movement of information between Texas' teacher-certifying universities, local school districts, and the Texas Education Agency. Since it was found that no computerized certification system presently exists in any state, the primary purpose of this study was to develop a model for a computerized teacher certification information system; a secondary purpose was to determine the major factors involved in regard to the feasibility of such a model. The model is written from an education administration viewpoint and is limited to in-state elementary and secondary teacher certification, 1972 certification standards, and existing computer capabilities.

An evaluation model for career information delivery systems

No uniform plan has been developed to evaluate career information delivery systems or to collect data from the various systems. Out of this context, a theoretical evaluation model was developed by which internal or external evaluators of career information delivery systems may develop evaluation strategies. The proposed model offers a comprehensive approach to the study and evaluation of career information delivery systems. A symbolic representation and narrative description of the various aspects of the proposed model are presented. Three groups of data sources have been identified to make significant contributions for immediate and longitudinal studies and include: (1) users (students and clients); (2) user site personnel (staff/counselors); and (3) administrators. The coordinated and interrelated parts of career information delivery systems are identified as (1) the organization and management structure, (2) information development, (3) information delivery, (4) user services, (5) economic efficiency, and (6) user impact. The model is flexible enough to allow for a wide variety of evaluation strategies and can be divided, as appropriate, into several phases. Furthermore, a sample evaluation study on a major component of the evaluation model, information delivery, was implemented on the 1981 Virginia Career Information Delivery System microfiche. The data for this study was collected by three methods: (1) a questionnaire to obtain user reactions and demographic information, (2) a questionnaire to obtain site information and, (3) on site interviews with structured questions to gather information in a less formal method. The purpose of this phase of the study was to illustrate proper application of one phase of the model which addressed the seventeen performance evaluation criteria identified by NOICC and thirteen additional items specific to state data collection identified by this writer. It is believed that this model will serve as an overall framework for future and more comprehensive studies, and in the end will improve career information delivery systems. / Ed. D.
