Objetive: To determine nutritional and oxidative stress status in institutionalized elderly. Methods: subjects were underwent to the evaluation of clinical, nutritional and oxidative stress parameters. Participants: Fifty five (20 men and 35 women) elderly residents in Long-Term Care Facility (LTCF). Results: The median age was 75 (66 - 81) years. Forty% had BMI < 22 kg/m2, 27.3% between 22 - 27 kg/m2 and 32.7% > 27 kg/m2. Body index mass (BMI) was higher in female group than in male group. -carotene levels were higher in female group and MDA/-carotene ratio was higher in the male group. Albumin, total protein and -tocopherol levels were higher in BMI > 22 kg/m2 group. MDA/-tocopherol ratio was higher in BMI < 22 kg/m2 group. Conclusion: High prevalence of BMI < 22 kg/m2 was identified among elderly population living in LTCF. This variable was related to albumin < 3.5 g/dL, low -tocopherol levels and high MDA/-tocopherol ratio.
