From rags to riches? Intergenerational transmission of income in Europe

Schnetzer, Matthias, Altzinger, Wilfried 03 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The paper uses data from the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) 2005 to analyze intergenerational income mobility in Austria compared to other European Union members. Applying various methodological approaches like least squares estimations and quantile regressions we reveal substantial differences in intergenerational mobility between Scandinavian countries and Continental Europe. The results show that income class rigidities in most European countries are striking compared to the Nordic countries. / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

The Brazilian telenovela in the intergenerational relationship of Brazilian immigrants in Japan: mediation, speeches and production of sense.

Suzuki, Helen Emy Nochi 24 April 2019 (has links)
The research investigated the space for mediation of the Brazilian telenovela in the intergenerational relationship between Brazilian parents and children living in Japan. This is a case study that focused on reception and adopted the techniques of discussion group, in-depth interview and life history. The field research, conducted in Japan, involved the collection of data about the Brazilian telenovela with Brazilian immigrants, parents and children, who live in that country. The theoretical framework was based on the Cultural Studies, the Mediations approach, the Discourse Analysis (AD) and the Bakhtin\'s language studies. The main objective was to observe the senses produced by the discourses of and about the Brazilian telenovela and its possible constitution as mediation in the intergenerational relationship. The telenovela is constructed as mediation, that is, as a space through which it is possible to observe different layers of meanings provided by their discourses that combine cultural matrices and the social, economic and cultural injunctions involved in Format. Based on the analysis performed it was possible to observe the incessant clash between some aspects of the behaviours and values of the Brazilian and the Japanese cultures, constituents of the double cultural anchoring of these Brazilians. The materiality of these conflicts can be observed: in the consumption of products exhibited in the telenovela; in the discussion about the values and worldview of Brazilians and Japanese; in the estrangement and/or acceptance of behaviors shown in the telenovela. In this way, the telenovela occupies a symbolic space of mediation that brings memories, produces senses of identity and Brazilian identity sense, updates information, serves as a bridge and reference for the relations between parents and children who negotiate, discuss, debate and in this Daily confrontation they learn to establish boundaries and demarcate territories in the \"between the places\", divided between the two cultures, the Japanese and the Brazilian.

Dahlström, Sara January 2019 (has links)
30 deltagare ingick i studien.

Transmission intergenerationnelle de l'attachement : étude de la parentalité chez des personnes ayant été placées / Intergenerational transmission of attachment : the study of parenthood of the persons who lived in a foster care

Iblova, Petra 25 November 2011 (has links)
This study suggests studying the transmission of the attachment from one generation to another in a specific population, and the role of resilience in this transmission. In a psychodynamic and systemic approach, we observe the impact of the past of the first generation to their parenthood and to their children. Our research relies on two premises. The first is that the family history and the context of foster care is a traumatic experience. According to the second postulate, the people of our clinical corpus are founded in a process of resilience. Our population is composed of 24 subjects of the first generation (G1) whose peculiarity consists in the fact that in their infancy, they were separated from their families of origin and lived in a foster care. The research also includes 20 adult subjects (G2), who are children of the foster persons (G1).A semi-structured interview and the test of Ca-MIR Pierrehumbert et al. (1996) represent the main tools. The data collected were subject to a category-specific analysis, statistical processing and analysis software with Alceste Reinert (1993). Our results confirm our assumptions and indicate a marked improvement in the quality of attachment to the second generation. While over 70% of the G1 are insecure, 95% of the G2 use the secure primary strategy. However, the attachment of subjects who suffered trauma remains unchanged despite subsequent relations reassuring. The second generation, although secure, holds the injury done to the parent. These results lead us to reconsider the intergenerational transmission of attachment and to adjust the parenting support offered to the people who came from foster care.

Les comportements de gestion des forestiers : contribution à la connaissance des conséquences de perspectives intergénérationnelles sur les décisions du dirigeant d'entreprise familiale / The behavior of forest landowner : contribution to knowledge of consequences of intergenerational prospect on family business owner’s decisions.

Camblanne, Lionel 14 February 2011 (has links)
The forest landowner can be set up as a model of a business manager who leads a wood manufacture, his woodland. He can be considered as a particular business manager whose activity is characterized by an unique decision, to cut or not to cut the trees ; and by a long planning horizon on several generations.Through the observation that the forest landowners' behaviors are not totally rational in comparison with the function of the woodland production, the research explores the origins of biases that affect behaviors, and specifically the family vision on business, due to the impact of each decision on the future of the coming generations. In this objective, based on psychological researches, a theoretical background is implemented, which proposes a model of the various biases that can affect managers.By comparing the different cases of forest landowners, the family vision is found as the origin of a conative bias that triggers a behavioral inertia. This inertia appears to be variable according to the specificities of the managers' families. The various forest landowners' behaviors allow to grasp new elements concerning behavioral governance through the proposition of both a behavior analyzing tool and a mechanism which aims to identify the origins of biases through a differential method , and allow to infer the mean to correct them.

The option for not have a loving link in a committed way between the conditions of contemporary existences and the generational psychic inheritance

Zanetti, Sandra Aparecida Serra 01 February 2013 (has links)
The contemporaneity contemplates sociocultural and economical conditions of existence that represent a competitive scenary, with unstable and ephemeral values, in which individuality takes a central place and promotes more autonomous individuals and at the same time more fragilized. Beyond these conditions, what can be observed, as a result, is a weakening around the construction and maintenance of intersubjective links. Therefore, an interest was born, investigating the lack of commitment that are formed the love links currently being situated among the conditions of present existences. Nevertheless, as we starting from the psychoanalytical link bias to comprehend the formation of the subject, we also assumed the considerable effect of the generational psychic inheritance composition of the phenomenon. This way, this study had as the aim to comprehend the subjective construction of adults that choose for not have a loving link in a committed way among the contemporary conditions of existence and the familiar psychic inheritance. Based on the clinic-qualitative research methodology, six semi directed interviews have been applied to participants of both sexes, aged from 25 and 35 years old, who described themselves as singles for option. The analysis of the data was based on the intrapsychic and linkage psychoanalytical theory on one side, and, on the other hand, counted on the psychosocial studies. We searched to construct a narrative in which was possible to represent a profound comprehension about the option chosen, approaching conscious and unconscious aspects, from sociocultural origin, intrapsychic and inherited inter and/or transgenerationaly. The particular history and the psychic functioning of each individual were fundamental to the understanding of the phenomenon studied. All of them showed to have subjective characteristics identified with the currently, as modern narcissism, consumerism or the technological model of relating, but the content that gave sense to these subjective elements was from intrapsychic or generational origin. Another aspect noticed was the difficulties on dealing with the frustration. We understood that the current life conditions tend to return the individual to the center of himself turning, difficult the living with the alterity. The same contemporary scenary the contemplates the plurality of values and sustains different options favoring a positioning more coherent with the possibilities and wills of the individuals, as is the case of ours participants, at the same time interfering on the stability on the links because more fragile individuals are less willing to deal with the conflicts of a link itself. It has been verified in all cases certain psychic unavailability to the contact with alterity, and the option for not constructing a committed loving link is shown as a possibility among others in this context

O ambiente intergeracional no ensino de italiano LE: o caso do italiano no campus / The intergenerational environment in teaching Italian as a foreign language: the case of Italian on campus

Fukumoto, Alessandra Harumi Bonito 01 February 2011 (has links)
Overall, the global population is aging and, according to IBGE estimates, Brazil will have the sixth largest elderly population by 2025. The increase in life expectancy, together with the amount of free time available in retirement, has meant more time for sporting, recreational and educational activities, among other things, for this segment of the population. The quest for personal fulfillment has led many elderly to finally participate in activities that they had previously postponed, largely due to more pressing work and family commitments. Included among these activities, there is now great interest in foreign language courses. Thus, opportunities for intergenerational contact among participants of language courses arise, which in turn bring benefits for all those involved. Our starting point for the development of this study was the discussion around identity covered by various Cultural Studies (particularly, those by Stuart Hall and Tomaz Tadeu da Silva), as well as studies about stereotypes and prejudice in the realm of Social Psychology and general research into the area of Gerontology. Despite not being created specifically for the purpose of being an Intergenerational Program, the Italian on Campus (IC) course has groups that span considerable age ranges, from 16 to 78 years. These groups can thus be considered intergenerational environments in which participants have a common objective: learning the Italian language. Accordingly, the IC has constructed a space for important exchanges and with great potential for breaking down stereotypes and prejudices about the elderly and the aging process itself. This type of environment also promotes increased respect for others and greater opportunities for the generations to find out more about each other, as well as getting rid of the negative stereotypes pertaining to the elderly, with regards to the process of acquiring and learning a foreign language. Therefore, the role of the teacher becomes fundamental in this context, because it can determine the success or failure of these intergenerational environments and the relationships that occur within them. Our study involved IC students and monitors and comprised of a fact-finding mission in three stages, with questionnaires applied to students and monitors, as well as interviews with the monitors themselves. With this data, we were able to define the profile of the students participating in the Italian on Campus course, where a quarter of participants are now defined as seniors, and to record experiences about intergenerational relationships, both from the standpoint of the monitors as well as from that of the students themselves. The results show us that most of the students prefer the intergenerational groups and both students and monitors believe that broad age range enriches the course. Even though it was not conceived for this purpose, the IC course has the potential of becoming a true Intergenerational Program, further aiding in the social re-inclusion of the elderly.

Costa, Samara Queiroga Borges Gomes da 21 December 2015 (has links)
Life expectancy is increasing in the majority of countries and there is concern in the societies about solving the challenges associated with this fact. In this context there is the school, which possesses the task of forming citizens capable of understanding both the diversity in which they are involved in the social sphere and the relevance of respecting the different generations, according with their specific characters, based upon the social and cultural changes that arise over the years. This situation brings up the question: how to enable an interaction among generations aimed at social inclusion during the children‟s learning process in which the concept of aging could be internalized? In view of such question, this research seeks to show the role of the intergenerational education as social technology and its functionality as an instrument for the development of pedagogical actions that can integrate generations and enable the development of subjects committed with the transformation of society. This was made based mainly in the following theorists: Pesce (2013), Andery (2012), Santos (2010), Kuhn (2000), Chizzotti (2006), Rezende (1990), Merleau-Ponty (2001); Vygostky (1999), Beauvoir (1976), Groisman (1999), Rego (1995), Strauss e Howe (1992), McCrindle (2009), Lombardia (2008), Debert (2006); Lèvy (1999), Sassaki (1997), Valadão et al (2014), Carvalho (1997) De Paulo (2004). The use of intergenerational education as social technology enables transformations in which the children can understand that older individuals doesn‟t have a secondary role in society. To teach the specific characters of the generations with intergenerational activities developed by means of inter- and transdisciplinarity will enable to the children a kind of development that generates transformation and thus, the formation of individuals who understand the differences of the society in which they are involved and who can therefore respect the others, reducing intergenerational conflicts.

Problem?ticos ou invis?veis: o imagin?rio coletivo de idosos sobre adolescentes / Troublemakers or invisibles: the collective imaginary of elderly about teenagers

No. of bitstreams: 1 NATALIA DEL PONTE DE ASSIS.pdf: 7319635 bytes, checksum: a731dd18dc1973d30e717bb407b9beb7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-12-09 / The present essay is included in the studies about intergenerational relationships and discriminations against teenagers. It aimed to investigate, in a psychoanalytic view, the collective imaginary of elderly people about the nowadays teenagers . The methodology consisted of individual interviews, performed with six elderly persons, using the Procedure Drawings-Story with Theme as a dialogue mediator. After each interview, psychoanalytic narratives were written and considered together with the drawings-stories made by the participants. We created/found two affective-emotional sense fields, or relative unconscious, named The Troublemakers and The Denied Beings . The results indicated that the participants tended to imagine the teenagers as complicated people, sometimes seeing them as victims due to the missing support they didn t receive from the adults or, because they see the teenagers as intrinsically bad people. They also tended to deny the adolescence, not recognizing the teenagers as a social collective group. The conclusion indicated a prejudiced point of view that justifies additional investigations.
