This thesis examines Josef Jungmann's translation of Milton's Paradise Lost. Josef Jungmann was one of the leading figures of the Czech National Revival and translated Milton's poem between the years 1800 and 1804. The thesis thoroughly describes the Czech cultural situation at the beginning of the 19th century, covers Jungmann's theoretical model of translation and presents Jungmann's motives for translation of Milton's epic poem. The paper also describes the aims Jungmann had with his translation and whether he has achieved them. Also described is the reception Jungmann's translation received after it was published and its significance for the Czech literature. Primarily, this thesis focuses on detailed translation analysis of how Jungmann's translation compares prosodically, lexically and stylistically to the original and the first Polish translation. This thesis deals with the morganatic marriage of archdukess Eleonora and naval officer Alfons von Kloss in 1913, which was the first marriage of a Habsburg archdukess with a member of lower nobility. It focuses mainly on the analysis of the Imperial Austrian Family Statute and moganatic marriages of the Habsburg-Lorraine family. Furthermore, it deals with the Habsburgs of Austria-Teschen and the analysis of the Eleonora's marriage. Josef Colloredo-Mannsfelds Travels Travels to North America (1904 - 1906) Řešitel Anežka Jiráková Školitel Doc. PhDr. Irena Štěpánová, CSc. Abstract Between years 1904 and 1906 realised Josef Colloredo-Mannsfeld (1866 - 1957) two travels to North America. He was accompanied by his wife Yvonne. Both several months lasting travels took place in winter. Their accurate reconstruction is impossible due to the lack of archive materials. Most information has been preserved in Joseph's itinerary, where he wrote about visiting Alaska and Yukon in 1904. Josef brought back a number of animal trophies and valuable ethnographic material, which now can be seen in Opočno castle or in Náprstek museum in Prague. The author of this diploma thesis focuses mainly on the reconstruction and describing of the travels, she also discusses the personality of Josef Colloredo- Mannsfeld and writes about hunting, travelling and understanding of ethnicity in the contemporary context.

The diploma thesis focuses on the historical development of leisure activities in the North Bohemian town of Varnsdorf. It particularly deals with the period from 1945 to 1989 in great detail. The text also contains a chapter describing general free time issues and a brief chapter devoted to the development of leisure activities in Varnsdorf until 1945. It mentions Mr. Josef Mašín as an important local personam who remarkably influenced leisure activities in the town. The thesis deals with the history of Czech artistic translation in general and with the diachronic examination of Josef Hiršal's translation method in the area of translation poetry from German in particular. In the sixties Josef Hiršal alongside with his life and artistic partner Bohumila Grögerová was the main promoter and initiator of experimental poetry in Czechoslovakia. He devoted to experiment not only in his own work but also in translation. It was to his merit that Czech readers could familiarize themselves with the work of current foreign experimental poets, both in anthologies and in independent collections. Speaking of German language area he was consistent in translating Ernst Jandl, Hans Carl Artmann and Helmut Heißenbüttel. The practical part of this work is dedicated to the analysis of translation of selected poems of the mentioned trio using the hermeneutical approach. Hiršal translated from the whole range of other languages (using language cooperation), thanks to which he left a remarkable trace in the history of Czech translation from the second half of the twentieth century. Interestingly enough, his contribution to translation has not yet been subjected to critical analysis. Josef Čapek belonged among those Czech artists who dealt with problems of form and function of a modern art work in the beginning of 20th century. Both theoretical reflections on art and his early fiction represent Čapek's specific approach to the debate about modern and avant-garde currents in the times of stylistically inconsistent situation. This thesis analyses the confrontation of aesthetic principles of these art movements. Its focus is to show to what extent was Josef Čapek influenced by the principles of the individual movements and to describe the way in which he acquired and modified them. This thesis describes the development of the sports broadcasting in Czechoslovakia in the form of the practical research and historical analysis. The examined period starts in 1923 as the beginning of the existence of Radiojournal - the first radio station in Czechoslovakia and is defined by the year 1948. The thesis is systematically divided into five periods in which I describe the first signs of the interest in the sport in a regular radio broadcasting, first major sports events broadcasted by Radiojournal, organizational, personnel and technical background, marginal sports. Selected sport events with greater or minor importance are also described, as they were gradually transmitted by Radiojournal or Czechoslovak Radio in different periods. The thesis also mentions the occupation of the Czechoslovak Republic during the World War II, when has the interest in the sports radio broadcasting decreased but not vanished completely. There are outlined the activities of Josef Laufer during this period too. Laufer was Czechoslovak icon of the sports radio broadcasting. There is described the personnel expansion and the development of the independent sports redaction in the postwar period.
