Cohabitation in Multigenerational Workplaces : Leader-Follower Relationships between Millennials and Baby Boomers

Herzig, Anne, Treffler, Jessica January 2018 (has links)
Due to a demographic change in today’s society, it often occurs that people from different generations cohabitate in workplaces with each other. Due to this change, we observe a re-orientation of society and its beliefs and values, which affects not only organizations themselves, but also the work relationship between younger and older generations and explicitly the relationship between a leader and a follower. Generational diversity evolves, which can have a positive but also a negative impact on the workforce in organizations. The aim of this master thesis is to give an insight of how generations experience their leader-follower relationships in multigenerational workplaces, on the example of Millennials and Baby Boomers. For this purpose, a tendency to an inductive research approach was chosen. Firstly, a theoretical background is comprised, which includes a description of generations as well as leader-follower relationships. Secondly, a qualitative empirical study was pursued, with interview participants of the Millennial as well as Baby Boomer generation, in either leading or following positions. Based on the empirical data, nine areas of experience were discovered. These include open communication connected with honesty, work climate, mindset towards change, learning from each other, appreciating each other, respect, trust, intensity of relationship and preconceptions. The experiences of Millennials and Baby Boomers in leading as well as following positions can be categorised in these areas. The findings shall serve as a contribution for leaders as well as followers who cohabitate with each other in multigenerational workplaces. The study provides an insight of what Millennials and Baby Boomers value and expect in their workplace today, with the help of which a positive work climate can be ensured.

British cohabitation and the household division of labour

Kozak, Ladislav January 2018 (has links)
The structure of the family unit in the United Kingdom has undergone monumental changes in recent decades. The legal definition of a family has evolved substantially to include a wider range of family forms, most recently same-sex marriage, which became legal in the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) in 2014. Legal changes in the family accompany a range of social changes - among the most common of these is an expansion in the number of different-sex non-marital co-residential unions (concisely called "cohabitation") (Ermisch and Francesconi, 2000; Beaujouan and Bhrolcháin, 2011). Since the 1970s, these types of relationships have become widely accepted (Coast, 2009) and increasingly common (Office for National Statistics, 2012a). However, despite its prevalence, cohabitation in the United Kingdom is seldom studied independently of marriage. My dissertation strives to fill this gap in the literature. Specifically, my dissertation adds to the understanding of the household division of labour during cohabitation. Instead of merely examining cohabitation as one homogenous relationship type, Chapter 2 profiles three groups of cohabitants: 1) pre-marital cohabitants; 2) non-marital short-term cohabitants; 3) long-term cohabitants who reside together for five years or longer. Subsequent chapters examine how each of these groups, in turn, addresses the household division of labour - pre-marital and early couple formation cohabitation in Chapter 3, couples transitioning from cohabitation to marriage in Chapter 4, and during long-term cohabitation in Chapter 5. This dissertation is a significant contribution to the field of economic sociology because the household division of labour has not yet been explored during cohabitation in this way.

Manželství a rodina pohledem studentů vysokých škol / Marriage and Family in the Look of College Studentes

SLOBODOVÁ, Lenka January 2017 (has links)
The topic of family is in present-day postmodern time one of the most biting. We occur in one of the next marginal terms where traditional family slowly disappears and a modern family has so many variabilities, directions and instability we don't even know what structure it takes in next decades. Goal of my work is to find out and describe how college students across the Czech Republic feel about marriage and family. My objective is to find out, whether college students did have in their worth list family and whether it was highly rated on it. For achieving objective, I set down two hypothesis. Hypothesis no. 1: Family is in the TOP 3 in worth lists of college students. Hypothesis no. 2: Cohabitation is more preferred then marriage by college students. I found out in research that family actually is in the TOP 3 in worth lists of college students. There was affirmation of opinion on cohabitation too. College students prefer cohabitation before marriage. Interesting fact is that students prefer cohabitation only until their child is born. In the theoretical part I focused on what family is and what is its function, on historical development of both marriage and cohabitation. Next, I described changes which came into being in partnerships which lead to marriage or choosing a cohabitation. Practical part of the work is filled with quantitative research by interview surveys. I researched into the sort of college students across the Czech Republic, who were chosen by random sample in a specific way, in which it fulfils representativeness criteria. Overall, 916 respondents took part in my research. Results are shown in numbers and percentage and graphs and tables were used to process data.

Nesezdané soužití v pohledu křesťanských církví / Cohabitation in the sight of christian churches

HEROUT, Jiří January 2011 (has links)
The Thesis deals with the problems of unwed cohabitation. It is divided into the theoretical and practical parts. The main theme is concerned with the question of marriage and family. The documents of Christian churches are applied that unanimously declare the indissolubility of marriage. Following texts are among these principal documents: Holy Scripture, the Documents of the Second Vatican Council, and last but not least the statutes of the selected non-Catholic churches that deal with the questions of Christian wedding and marriage. The practical part is conceived as a social survey in which Christians from different churches answer the questions from the area of unwed cohabitation and marriage.

Ruští imigranti v Praze: koncentrace, integrace, soužití / Russian immigrants in Prague: concentration, integration, cohabitation

Ignatyeva, Ekaterina January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis explores the relation between the processes of segregation and integration through the study of everyday cohabitation and social interaction that takes place in areas of concentrated Russian immigrants in Prague. Given that some locations of Prague have a long experience with the immigration of Russians, this thesis is reflective of the historical development of the Russian immigration to the First Republic, which in some way to helps to understand and explain the processes taking place presently on the unequal social and legal status of Russians, as immigrants from third countries, perceived through migration and integration policies of the Czech Republic. Analysis of the media's discourse shows the negative impact on Russian immigrants in social interactions with the majority, subsequently reducing integration and deepening social inequality. At the beginning, locations with a significant concentration of Russian immigrants are identified and defined by the quantitative research. Next, the daily interaction among Russian immigrants and the Czech majority is examined in selected locations by the qualitative research. The conclusions discuss how research of everyday cohabitation and social interaction contributed to the understanding of the processes of segregation and the...
