EFFEKTIVISERING AV INTERNA PROVFLÖDEN INOM LABORATORIEVERKSAMHETEN : EFFICIENCY OFF INTERNAL SAMPLEFLOWS IN LABORATORY OPERATIONS

Jakobsson, Christian January 2015 (has links)
Background: Laboratories in Sweden have a big challenge when Sweden is a wide country and big parts is sparsely populated and many samples have limited durability. At same time as laboratories is a sensitive branch with high demands on time and quality which makes a functional internal and external logistic important. Purpose: The purpose is to increase the understanding of internal sample flows for companies who works with sample analysis, by analyse sample flows in companies that is analysing samples, from a logistic perspective. To answer the purpose, two research questions are formulated: ·        What limitations can be identified in internal sample flows from delivery to analyses done for companies working with analyses of samples? ·        How can limitations in internal sample flows be handled from delivery to analyses done for companies working with analyses of samples? Method: A case study has been made on Eurofins laboratory in Lidköping where data has been collected by interview studies and observations. Result: By the logistic perspective several possibilities to increase the efficiency have been found. By logistic tools proposals have been made how those hindrances can be handled. Those possibilities to increase the efficiency is: Consolidation activities Failsafe Standardizations Overlook unload/loading of trucks Make the sample flow even during the week Conclusions: In this study have the writer made several recommendations for companies that is working with analysing samples. But it is important to consider that those recommendations are case-specific, but if same conditions occur is the result possibly to generalize.

IMPLEMENTING LEAN SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGY IN THE OIL INDUSTRY: GENERAL FRAMEWORK

Jaber, Mohammed Abdali 01 December 2013 (has links)
The oil industries constitute a significant part of global economic, depending on whether the value of its output, exports or jobs created. The industry affects directly the national economy, and contributes to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Oil industries are considered the main supplier for many sectors such as industrial, transportation and so forth. On the other hand, the oil industry has faced many problems such as environmental impact, exhausts, climate change, waste, and safety; as well as customers' and employee dissatisfaction. Errors and waste in the oil industry have serious costs and consequences. Hence, a systematic methodology of quality in the oil enterprise has become an urgent necessity to minimize or eliminate waste and provide a health, safety, and environment (HS&E) performance. One of the most efficient systems of quality is the integration between Six Sigma methodology and Lean Enterprise. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) has become widely used in several areas such as manufacturing, service, and health care. The research literature does not provide a framework for implementing Lean and Six Sigma in the oil industry. A systematic general framework of the LSS implementation is developed which includes eight steps - statement, leadership, committee, deployment, prioritize, implement, review, and finalize. Then, the effectiveness of the LSS methodology of solving problems that the oil industry faces was demonstrated by providing several case studies applied successfully in different areas in the oil enterprise.

Framework for Lean thinking approach in healthcare corporations: Value stream mapping to reduce patient waiting time

Kamma, Tarani Kanth 01 December 2010 (has links)
Lean techniques are tools that reduce waste in the process and create value for the end-customer. Initially, the concept of lean thinking started in manufacturing, but with the tremendous advantages it offers in terms of value creation for the customer, defect reduction, increase of profits for corporations, it has been recognized as an important tool across a wide spectrum of industries. Although Healthcare industry has started applying these techniques, there is very little work published on how to apply these techniques to this particular industry. In this study, a framework for applying lean thinking to healthcare industries is presented. The framework depicts a systematic methodology for identifying value streams. The framework was developed specifically for the healthcare industry, but it can be applied to service industry in general. A case study is presented on how to apply this framework. Value stream mapping has been conducted at a clinic to identify areas of improvement. The components of the developed framework have been used to define a future state of process based on input from process owners, nurses, physicians, and patient surveys. The study has identified factors that influence the success of implementation of lean techniques in healthcare. Also the potential for future work has been identified.

Guzmán Arana, Gian Pier, Vela Cieza, Jean Paul 05 1900 (has links)
Tesis

Construção predial lean: mapeamento da cadeia de valor das estruturas metálicas / Construction land lean: mapping the value chain of metallic structures

Rodrigo Rodrigues Lyra da Silva 25 September 2005 (has links)
The aim of this work is to apply the Lean Construction plan, based on Toyota Production System, as the main strategy for the steel structure assembly in a commercial building. The Lean System target is to increase the productivity in the construction process by considering the synchronism between the logistic activities and the steel structural erection. This synchronism can be obtained by following the Lean Logic of reducing the time delay, the elimination of inventory in the building site and the organization of simultaneous teams for the assemblage of the steel parts. The material flow and the sequence of activities are represented in a value stream map, in order to identify the time wasted during the process and trying to otimize sequence of operation. At the end, by analyzing a particular project of a building at the center of Rio de Janeiro, the critical problems involved in a steel construction were identified and some alternative solutions for these problems, based on Lean System, are proposed.

It is significant the repercussion of the concept of Lean Production, much of the success cases come from the automotive industry and other manufacturing discrete products. Those industries are characterized by high volumes and a relatively small assortment of products. However, there was a lack of literature on approaches those address Lean Production applied to continuous manufacturing where production equipment are, not rarely, large, high cost and relatively fixed. The continuous manufacturing is less flexible and not suitable, for example, a cellular layout as discrete manufacturing. In this context, the objective of this thesis is to investigate the applicability of the concept of Lean Production and its tools for continuous manufacturing industry, particularly in the manufacture of electrical conductors. About the methodology of this research, at first, an exploratory survey with manufacturers of electrical conductors is performed. Then, data from ex-post facto from a manufacturer with long history of practice of the concepts of Lean Production was held VSM - Value Stream Mapping. After was envisioned future state map considered the boundary conditions and/or adaptation of lean practices to be adopted and their impacts are investigated by means of discrete stochastic simulation. The results of the survey allow us to infer that the concept still requires a more significant development in that universe surveyed. Already the simulation results, evaluated by means of a design of experiments and the simultaneous evaluation of the output variables, by the use of the Plackett-Burman Method, point to significant gains, for example, in reducing the lead time and the amount of stock in process. In conclusion, it was demonstrated for the industrial environment studied, continuous manufacturing eminently, the possibility... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
