It is well known that quantum tunneling phenomena can occur in molecules as well as in atomic nuclei. In general, an important aspect of the study of those processes is to understand how the tunneling is a ected by the presence of a coupling between the tunneling degree of freedom with additional degrees of freedom associated to the rest of the physical system. In our study, concerning the tunneling probability in the malonaldehyde molecule, that probability is veri ed by the rst energy doublet splitting associated to the tunneling atom - hydrogen - in the molecule. The energy levels splitting change due to the coupling is seem to be embodied in the e ective mass.
